    The emergence of microplastics (MPs) pollution as a global environmental concern has attracted significant attention in the last decade. The majority of the human population spends most of their time indoors, leading to increased exposure to MPs contamination through various sources such as settled dust, air, drinking water and food. Although research on indoor MPs has intensified significantly in recent years, comprehensive reviews on this topic remain limited. Therefore, this review comprehensively analyses the occurrence, distribution, human exposure, potential health impact and mitigation strategies of MPs in the indoor air environment. Specifically, we focus on the risks associated with finer MPs that can translocate into the circulatory system and other organs, emphasizing the need for continued research to develop effective strategies to mitigate the risks associated with MPs exposure. Our findings suggest that indoor MPs impose potential risk to human health, and strategies for mitigating exposure should be further explored.

    BACKGROUND: In the 5 years that have passed since the publication of the 2018 International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology: Allergic Rhinitis (ICAR-Allergic Rhinitis 2018), the literature has expanded substantially. The ICAR-Allergic Rhinitis 2023 update presents 144 individual topics on allergic rhinitis (AR), expanded by over 40 topics from the 2018 document. Originally presented topics from 2018 have also been reviewed and updated. The executive summary highlights key evidence-based findings and recommendation from the full document.

    METHODS: ICAR-Allergic Rhinitis 2023 employed established evidence-based review with recommendation (EBRR) methodology to individually evaluate each topic. Stepwise iterative peer review and consensus was performed for each topic. The final document was then collated and includes the results of this work.

    RESULTS: ICAR-Allergic Rhinitis 2023 includes 10 major content areas and 144 individual topics related to AR. For a substantial proportion of topics included, an aggregate grade of evidence is presented, which is determined by collating the levels of evidence for each available study identified in the literature. For topics in which a diagnostic or therapeutic intervention is considered, a recommendation summary is presented, which considers the aggregate grade of evidence, benefit, harm, and cost.

    CONCLUSION: The ICAR-Allergic Rhinitis 2023 update provides a comprehensive evaluation of AR and the currently available evidence. It is this evidence that contributes to our current knowledge base and recommendations for patient evaluation and treatment.

    BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis is a diffuse chronic demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. It is relatively uncommon in the Asian population and even more so in males. Despite the usual involvement of the brainstem, eight-and-a-half syndrome remains a rare first presentation in multiple sclerosis. Only a few cases have been reported previously, but none involving the Asian population. Eight-and-a-half syndrome, a neuro-ophthalmological condition, is characterized by one-and-a-half syndrome with ipsilateral lower facial nerve palsy, which localizes lesions to the pontine tegmentum. This case report demonstrates the first case of eight-and-a-half syndrome as the first presentation of multiple sclerosis in an Asian male.

    CASE PRESENTATION: A healthy 23-year-old Asian man presented with sudden onset of diplopia followed by left-sided facial asymmetry for 3 days. Assessment of extraocular movement revealed left conjugate horizontal gaze palsy. On right gaze, there was limited left eye adduction and horizontal nystagmus of the right eye. These findings were consistent with a left-sided one-and-a-half syndrome. Prism cover test revealed left esotropia of 30 prism diopters. Cranial nerve examination showed left lower motor neuron facial nerve palsy, while other neurological examination was normal. Magnetic resonance imaging brain showed multifocal T2 fluid attenuated inversion recovery hyperintense lesions, involving bilateral periventricular, juxtacortical, and infratentorial regions. A focal gadolinium contrast-enhanced lesion with open ring sign on T1 sequence was seen at the left frontal juxtacortical region. Multiple sclerosis was diagnosed on the basis of the clinical and radiological evidence, which fulfilled the 2017 McDonald criteria. Positive oligoclonal bands in cerebrospinal fluid analysis further confirmed our diagnosis. He had a complete resolution of symptoms 1 month after a course of pulsed corticosteroid therapy, and was subsequently placed on maintenance therapy with interferon beta-1a.

    CONCLUSION: This case illustrates eight-and-a-half syndrome as the first presentation of a diffuse central nervous system pathology. A wide range of differential diagnoses needs to be considered in such a presentation as based on the patient's demographics and risk factors.

    INTRODUCTION: Tobacco use is one of the major preventable risk factors for premature death and disability worldwide. Understanding the trend of tobacco use over time is important for informed policy making.

    AIMS AND METHODS: The present study aimed to examine the changes in mean daily cigarette consumption among random samples of the Malaysian current smoker population over 20 years using an age-period-cohort (APC) approach. We conducted APC analysis using a multilevel hierarchical age-period-cohort model and data from four nationally representative, repeated cross-sectional surveys (National Health and Morbidity Survey) conducted in 1996, 2006, 2011, and 2015 among individuals aged 18 to 80 years. Analyses were also stratified by gender and ethnicity.

    RESULTS: Overall, mean daily cigarette consumption (smoking intensity) among current smokers increased with age until 60, after which a drop was observed. There were increases in daily cigarette consumption across birth cohorts. Age and cohort trends did not vary by gender but by ethnicity. The decreasing cigarette consumption after age 60 among the current smoker population was consistent with those observed among the Chinese and Indians, a trend that was not observed in Malays and other aborigines. In contrast, the increasing cohort trend was consistent with those observed among the Malays and other bumiputras.

    CONCLUSIONS: The present study highlighted important ethnic-specific trends for mean daily cigarette consumption among the current smoker population in Malaysia. These findings are essential in guiding the formulation of interventional strategies or implementation of national tobacco control policies and help achieve the Ministry of Health Malaysia's 2025 and 2045 targets for smoking prevalence.

    IMPLICATIONS: This is the first APC study on smoking intensity among current smokers in a multiracial, middle-income nation. Very few studies had performed gender- and ethnic-stratified APC analyses. The ethnic-stratified APC analyses provide useful insights into the overall age and cohort trends observed among the current smoker population in Malaysia. Therefore, the present study could add evidence to the existing literature on the APC trends of smoking intensity. The APC trends are also important in guiding the government to develop, implement, and evaluate antismoking strategies.

    Objective To evaluate the anatomical and functional outcomes of an idiopathic epiretinal membrane (ERM) between the observation group and intervention group at six months postoperative. Design Prospective cohort study. Participants Patients who met the clinical diagnosis of idiopathic ERM in the age frame of 18-80 years; patients with reduced visual acuity (VA), with best corrected VA of 0.2 LogMar or worse, with symptoms of significant metamorphopsia, who visited our center from June 2021 to June 2022. Methods All idiopathic ERM patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria were selected. The data recorded included the year of ERM diagnosis, duration of symptoms, age at diagnosis, gender, ethnicity, and presence of other ocular pathologies. Corrected VA, lens status, ERM configuration, and central subfield mean thickness (CST) in spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT), ellipsoid zone integrity (EZ), and disorganized retinal inner layer (DRIL) were recorded for all patients at diagnosis, as well as 3 and 6 months after diagnosis for non-operated patients. For patients who underwent surgery (pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), internal limiting membrane (ILM), and ERM peel), data were recorded similarly with additional data on the type of surgery (vitrectomy or combined phaco vitrectomy) and the development of intra or post-surgical complications. Patients receive information on the symptoms associated with ERM, treatment options, and disease progression. After counseling, the patient makes informed consent to the treatment plan. Patients are seen in the 3rd and 6th month from diagnosis. Combined phaco vitrectomy is performed if there is also significant lens opacity. Main outcome measures VA, CST, EZ, and DRIL at diagnosis and 6 months. Results Sixty subjects (30 interventional and 30 observational arms) were recruited for this study. The mean age in the intervention and observation groups was 62.70 and 64.10 years, respectively. Most ERM patients were female in the intervention group compared to males with 55.2% and 45.2% respectively. The mean pre-op CST was 410.03 μm in the intervention group compared to the pre-op CST 357.13 μm observation group. There were significantly different among groups in pre-op CST (p=0.009) using the independent T-test. Furthermore, the mean difference and 95% confidence interval in post-op CST were -69.67 (-99.17, -40.17). There were significant differences among groups in post-op CST (p<0.001) using the independent T-test. Meanwhile, there is no significant association of DRIL between both groups (p=0.23), with 95% CI of mean difference (-0.13, -0.01) using repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA) test. There was a significant association of EZ integrity between groups (p=<0.001), 95% CI of mean difference: (-0.13, -0.01) using a repeated measure ANOVA test. Furthermore, the mean post-op VA between pre and post-op VA was significantly different (p<0.001), with a 95% CI of mean difference (-0.85, -0.28). Finally, there is a significant factor association between the duration of ERM and post-op VA (b=.023, 95% CI .001, .05, p<0.05) with our patients. Conclusion ERM surgery has shown positive outcomes on anatomical and functional aspects with minimal safety-related risks. It is evident that a longer duration of ERM does give a minimal impact on the outcome. SD-OCT biomarkers, such as CST, EZ, and DRIL, can be used as reliable prognosticators in decision-making for surgical intervention.

    INTRODUCTION: Acute pediatric poisoning poses significant morbidity and mortality to a country. This study looks at the pattern of acute pediatric poisoning in ages 0-12 years old presenting to a pediatric emergency department in a tertiary hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

    METHOD: We performed a retrospective review of acute pediatric poisoning aged 0-12 years old presenting to the pediatric emergency department of Hospital Tunku Azizah Kuala Lumpur from 1st January 2021 to 30th June 2022.

    RESULTS: A total of 90 patients were included in this study. The ratio of female to male patients was 2:3. Oral ingestion was the most common route of poisoning. 73% of patients were from 0-5 years old and primarily asymptomatic. Pharmaceutical agents were the most common agent of poisoning-no mortality in this study.

    CONCLUSION: The prognosis of acute pediatric poisoning was good in the 18 months of the study period.

    A microstrip circuit is designed, constructed, and tested based on the nest microstrip add-drop filters (NMADF). The multi-level system oscillation is generated by the wave-particle behaviors of AC driven along the microstrip ring circular path. The continuous successive filtering is applied via the device input port. The higher-order harmonic oscillations can be filtered, from which the two-level system known as a Rabi oscillation is achieved. The outside microstrip ring energy is coupled to the inside rings, from which the multiband Rabi oscillations can be formed within the inner rings. The resonant Rabi frequencies can be applied for multi-sensing probes. The relationship between electron density and Rabi oscillation frequency of each microstrip ring output can be obtained and used for multi-sensing probe applications. The relativistic sensing probe can be obtained by the warp speed electron distribution at the resonant Rabi frequency respecting the resonant ring radii. These are available for relativistic sensing probe usage. The obtained experimental results have shown that there are 3-center Rabi frequencies obtained, which can be used for 3-sensing probes simultaneously. The sensing probe speeds of 1.1c, 1.4c, and 1.5c are obtained using the microstrip ring radii of 14.20, 20.12, and 34.49 mm, respectively. The best sensor sensitivity of 1.30 ms is achieved. The relativistic sensing platform can be used for many applications.

    Supplementary private health insurance (PHI) provides better access to healthcare, improves health outcomes, potentially lowers the costs for health systems and supports the social security system. Improperly regulated PHI, however, may aggravate inequity of access towards preferential care and encourage moral hazard among PHI purchasers, altering the health-seeking behaviour, which is often observed through the pattern of health care utilisation. We investigated the effect of PHI ownership on private inpatient care utilisation, its frequency of admission and length of stay by conducting secondary data analysis of the Malaysian National Health Morbidity Survey (NHMS) 2015 data, a nationally representative community health survey. Malaysian adults 18 years of age and above who utilised inpatient healthcare facilities were included. In this cross-sectional study, we addressed the endogeneity effect of health insurance by employing instrumental variable estimation and a two-stage residual inclusion analysis.     The aim of direct pulp capping (DPC) is to promote pulp healing and mineralized tissue barrier formation by placing a dental biomaterial directly over the exposed pulp. Successful application of this approach avoids the need for further and more extensive treatment. In order to ensure a complete pulp healing with the placement of restorative materials, a mineralized tissue barrier must form to protect the pulp from microbial invasion. The formation of mineralized tissue barrier can only be induced when there is a significant reduction in pulp inflammation and infection. Consequently, promoting the healing of pulp inflammation may provide a favorable therapeutic opportunity to maintain the sustainability of DPC treatment. Mineralized tissue formation was observed as the favorable reaction of exposed pulp tissue against a variety of dental biomaterials utilized for DPC. This observation reveals an intrinsic capacity of pulp tissue for healing. Therefore, this review focuses on the DPC and its healing procedure as well as the materials used for DPC treatment and their mechanisms of action to promote pulpal healing. In addition, the factors that can affect the healing process of DPC, clinical considerations and future perspective has been described.

    OBJECTIVE: Mucositis is one of the most feared side effects of cancer treatment. Psychometric analysis of a patient self-assessment score, the oral mucositis daily questionnaire in Malay (OMDQ-Mal) and its construct validity by means of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) is lacking. This research aimed to test the validity and reliability of OMDQ-Mal.

    METHODS: A total of 114 autologous stem-cell transplantation patients aged ≥ 18 years old at a national hematology center in Malaysia from April 2019 to December 2020 completed OMDQ-Mal concurrently with physician scores. Internal consistency and reproducibility were determined by Cronbach alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient, respectively. Correlations with physician scores were determined by Spearman correlation. Discriminative validity and construct validity were determined by Mann-Whitney U and CFA, respectively.

    RESULTS: OMDQ-Mal demonstrated high internal consistency (α ​= ​0.874). Test-retest reliability between paired days were moderate to excellent (95% CI ​= ​0.676-0.953). Items in OMDQ-Mal had moderate to strong correlations with physician scores (ρ ​= ​0.503-0.721). Discriminative validity indicated that the scores of scales were significantly different between participants with severe and mild conditions. Construct validity results of loading factors 0.708-0.952; composite reliability 0.879-0.974; average variant extracted 0.710-0.841; and heterotrait-monotrait ratio 0.528 established the convergent and divergent validity.

    CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the OMDQ-Mal, which captured important quality of life responses, demonstrated adequate validity and reliability. This was supported by a two-component model CFA. The strong correlation of OMDQ-Mal with both physician scores indicated its potential as a comprehensive patient-reported outcome measure of mucositis of the entire alimentary tract.

    The present study was conducted to elucidate the effects of hip prostheses in 192Ir HDR brachytherapy and determine dose uncertainties introduced by the treatment planning. A gynaecological phantom irradiated using Nucletron 192Ir microSelectron HDR source was modeled using MCNP5 code. Three hip materials considered in this study were water, bone, and metal prosthesis. According to the obtained results, a dose perturbation was observed within the medium with a higher atomic number, which reduced the dose to the nearby region.

    The Purpose is to identify, through a systematic literature review, the current evidence regarding the effectiveness of topical insulin treatment in ocular surface pathologies. A literature search was implemented in Medline (Pubmed), Embase and Web Of Science medical indexing databases by using keywords such as "insulin" AND "cornea" OR "corneal" OR "dry eye" in published papers in English or Spanish within the last eleven years (2011-2022). Nine papers were identified with 180 participants from the United States, Spain, Ireland, Canada, Portugal and Malaysia, with persistent refractory epithelial defects and secondary to vitrectomy, whose extension of the lesion was from 3,75mm2 to 65.47mm2. The preparation was dissolved with artificial tears and the insulin concentration ranged from 1 IU/ml to 100 IU/ml. In all cases, the resolution of the clinical picture was complete with a healing time from 2.5 days to 60.9 days, the latter being a secondary case to a difficult-to-control caustic burn. Topical insulin has been effective for the treatment of persistent epithelial defects. The intermediate action and low concentrations showed a shorter resolution time in neurotrophic ulcers and induced during vitreoretinal surgery.

    BACKGROUND: The labelling of dispensed medicines (LDM) ensures that optimum therapy is achieved, and medication errors are prevented. In Malaysia, LDM is enforced under Poisons Act 1952.

    OBJECTIVE: To explore the knowledge, perception, and practices of community pharmacists (CP) and general practitioners (GP) on LDM.

    METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2019 until March 2020 among CP and GP practising in Sarawak, Malaysia. Sample sizes were 90 and 150 for CP and GP, respectively. A self-administered structured questionnaire which was pre-tested and pilot-tested was employed to explore the knowledge and perception. Practices were assessed by having participants prepare dispensed medicine labels (DML) using simulated patients and prescriptions.

    RESULTS: 250 participants; 96 CP and 154 GP participated. While most of them perceived that they know the requirements of LDM (n=244; 97.6%), their median knowledge score was poor (57.1%). The median knowledge score of CP (66.7%) was significantly higher (P=0.004) than GP (50.0%). The majority of participants perceived that LDM is important (n= 237; 94.8%) and necessary (n=239; 95.6%%) and perceived that poor compliance to the requirements would lead to medication errors (n=243; 97.2%). Although their knowledge was poor, their median practice score (100.0%) was excellent. There was no correlation between knowledge and perception with the practice on LDM.

    CONCLUSION: The majority of CP and GP perceived that LDM is important. Interestingly, although their knowledge of the requirements of LDM was poor, their practices were good. (236 words).

    This single-center study aimed to explore the factors associated with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) transmission in a hospital. All laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases among health care workers (HCWs) in a tertiary hospital in Malaysia were analyzed cross-sectionally from January 25, 2020, to September 10, 2021. A total of 897 HCWs in the hospital had laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 infection during the study period. Around 37.4% of HCWs were suspected to acquire COVID-19 infection from the hospital workplace. Factors associated with lower odds of workplace COVID-19 transmission were being females, ≥30 years old, fully vaccinated, and working as clinical support staff. Involvement in COVID-19 patient care was significantly associated with higher odds (adjusted odds ratio = 3.53, 95% confidence interval: [2.42, 5.12]) of workplace COVID-19 transmission as compared with non-workplace transmission. Most HCWs in the tertiary hospital acquired COVID-19 infection from non-workplace settings. During a pandemic, it is important to communicate with HCWs about the risk of both workplace and non-workplace COVID-19 transmission and to implement measures to reduce both workplace and non-workplace COVID-19 transmission.

    BACKGROUND: The entire education industry switched from offline to online modes as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Numerous teachers who were diagnosed with musculoskeletal, psychological, and other neurodegenerative diseases have reported increased exhaustion, lack of sleep, a decline in quality of life (QoL), a decrease in physical activity, and excessive stress from online classes during the COVID-19 lockdown, especially women.

    OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of three-modal exercise on fatigue, sleep, QoL as well as to determine the relationship between age, disease severity, disease stage and working years with women diagnosed with Parkinson's disease (PD).

    METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial, 44 female educators in stages I-II with PD who were between the ages of 40 and 60 volunteered. For a total of 36 sessions over the course of six weeks, Group A received a three-modal fitness program through online video sessions, whereas Group B received Nordic walking. The outcome measures included the Fatigue Severity Scale, Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale, and Parkinson's Disease Quality of Life Questionnaire-39.

    RESULTS: Age, Hoehn and Yahr scale, working years, and PD in years did not correlate with each other (p > 0.50). The three-modal exercise experimental Group A showed statistically significant improvement in QoL (p 0.001), sleep (p 0.001), and fatigue (p 0.001).

    CONCLUSION: Women in the field of education who participated in a three-modal exercise programme for PD reported a significant improvement in their level of exhaustion, sleep patterns, and quality of life.

    Stingless bees, also known as meliponines, live in beehives. However, reports on the distribution of stingless bees are scattered, resulting in a lack of precision. Honey and propolis are the main components that can be harvested from their beehive, with a great commercial value of up to 610 million USD. Despite the enormous potential profits, discrepancies in their bioactivities have been observed worldwide, leading to a lack of confidence. Therefore, this review provided oversight on the potential of stingless bee products and highlighted the differences between stingless bees in Asia, Australia, Africa, and America. The bioactivity of stingless bee products is diverse and exhibits great potential as an antimicrobial agent or in various diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancers, and oral problems.

    Perovskite materials play a vital role in the field of material science via experimental as well as theoretical calculations. Radium semiconductor materials are considered the backbone of medical fields. These materials are considered in high technological fields to be used as controlling the decay ability. In this study, radium-based cubic fluoro-perovskite XRaF3 (where X = Rb and Na) are calculated using a DFT (density functional theory). These compounds are cubic nature with 221 space groups that construct on CASTEP (Cambridge-serial-total-energy-package) software with ultra-soft PPPW (pseudo-potential plane-wave) and GGA (Generalized-Gradient-approximation)-PBE (Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof) exchange-correlation functional. The structural, optical, electronic, and mechanical properties of the compounds are calculated. According to the structural properties, NaRaF3 and RbRaF3 have a direct bandgap with 3.10eV and 4.187eV of NaRaF3 and RbRaF3, respectively. Total density of states (DOS) and partial density of states (PDOS) provide confirmation to the degree of electrons localized in distinct bands. NaRaF3 material is semiconductors and RbRaF3 is insulator, according to electronic results. The imaginary element dispersion of the dielectric function reveals its wide variety of energy transparency. In both compounds, the optical transitions are examined by fitting the damping ratio for the notional dielectric function scaling to the appropriate peaks. The absorption and the conductivity of NaRaF3 compound is better than the RbRaF3 compound which make it suitable for the solar cell applications increasing the efficiency and work function. We observed that both compounds are mechanically stable with cubic structure. The criteria for the mechanical stability of compounds are also met by the estimated elastic results. These compounds have potential application in field of solar cell and medical.

    OBJECTIVES: The band gap, absorption and the conductivity are necessary conditions for potential applications. Here, literature was reviewed to check computational translational insight into the relationships between absorption and conductivity for solar cell and medical applications of novel RbRaF3 and NaRaF3 compounds.

    Cancer is the second leading cause of mortality globally which remains a continuing threat to human health today. Drug insensitivity and resistance are critical hurdles in cancer treatment; therefore, the development of new entities targeting malignant cells is considered a high priority. Targeted therapy is the cornerstone of precision medicine. The synthesis of benzimidazole has garnered the attention of medicinal chemists and biologists due to its remarkable medicinal and pharmacological properties. Benzimidazole has a heterocyclic pharmacophore, which is an essential scaffold in drug and pharmaceutical development. Multiple studies have demonstrated the bioactivities of benzimidazole and its derivatives as potential anticancer therapeutics, either through targeting specific molecules or non-gene-specific strategies. This review provides an update on the mechanism of actions of various benzimidazole derivatives and the structure‒activity relationship from conventional anticancer to precision healthcare and from bench to clinics.

    Cancer is a second leading disease-causing death worldwide that will continuously grow as much as 70% in the next 20 years. Chemotherapy is still becoming a choice for cancer treatment despite its severity of side effects and low success rate due to ineffective delivery of the chemodrugs. Since it was introduced in 1960, significant progress has been achieved in the use of liposomes in drug delivery. The study aims to review relevant literatures on role of PEGylated liposome in enhancing cytotoxic activity of several agents. A systematic literature on the use of PEGylated liposomes in anticancer research via Scopus, Google scholar and PubMed databases was conducted for studies published from 2000 to 2022. A total of 15 articles were selected and reviewed from 312 articles identified covering a variety of anticancer treatments by using PEGylated liposomes. PEGylated liposome which is purposed to achieve steric equilibrium is one of enhanced strategies to deliver anticancer drugs. It has been shown that some improvement of delivery and protection form a harsh gastric environment of several anticancer drugs when they are formulated in a PEGylated liposome. One of the successful drugs that has been clinically used is Doxil®, followed by some other drugs in the pipeline Various drugs (compounds) had been used to enhance the efficacy of PEGylated liposomes for targeted cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, PEGylated liposomes enhance drug activities and have great potential to become efficient anticancer delivery to follow Doxil® in the clinical setting.

    Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a rare genetic disorder due to lack of genes expression inherited from the paternal chromosome 15q11-q13 region usually from paternal deletions, maternal uniparental disomy 15 or imprinting defect. There are two different nutritional stages reported in an individual with PWS; first stage during infancy marked by feeding and growth difficulties and second stage where hyperphagia starts and leads to development of obesity. However, the exact mechanism of hyperphagia development, from having difficulties in feeding during early years to insatiable appetite after they grow is still unknown and is the focused in this review. The keywords used for literature search such as "Prader-Willi syndrome", "hyperphagia", "obesity", and "treatment" were used to create the search strings by using synonyms in order to retrieve the relevant records from PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct. The possible mechanism of hyperphagia can be classed into hormonal abnormalities such as increase in ghrelin and leptin from infancy to adulthood. Low level of hormones was observed in the thyroid, insulin and peptide YY at certain ages. Neuronal abnormalities contributed by Orexin A and brain structure alteration was documented at 4-30 years old. Treatment in the form of drugs such as livoletide, topiramate, and diazoxide could potentially alleviate these abnormalities and make hyperphagia less prominent in PWS. The approaches are important to regulate the hormonal changes and neuronal involvement as potentially controlling hyperphagia and obesity.
