The present work highlighted on the implementation of a unique concept for stabilizing colloids at their incipiently low charge potential. A highly charged nanoparticle was introduced within a coagulated prone colloidal system, serving as stabilizer to resist otherwise rapid flocculation and sedimentation process. A low size asymmetry of nanoparticle/colloid serves as the new topic of investigation in addition to the well-established large size ratio nanoparticle/microparticle study. Highly charged Al2O3 nanoparticles were used within the present research context to stabilize TiO2 and Fe3O4 based colloids via the formation of composite structures. It was believed, based on the experimental evidence, that Al2O3 nanoparticle interact with the weakly charged TiO2 and Fe3O4 colloids within the binary system via absorption and/or haloing modes to increase the overall charge potential of the respective colloids, thus preventing further surface contact via van der Waal's attraction. Series of experimental results strongly suggest the presence of weakly charged colloids in the studied bimodal system where, in the absence of highly charged nanoparticle, experience rapid instability. Absorbance measurement indicated that the colloidal stability drops in accordance to the highly charged nanoparticle sedimentation rate, suggesting the dominant influence of nanoparticles to attain a well-dispersed binary system. Further, it was found that the level of colloidal stability was enhanced with increasing nanoparticle fraction within the mixture. Rheological observation revealed that each hybrid complexes demonstrated behavior reminiscence to water with negligible increase in viscosity which serves as highly favorable condition particularly in thermal transport applications.

Zero-dimensional graphene quantum dots (GQDs) consist of single- or few-layer graphene with a size less than 20 nm and stand for a new type of QDs with unique properties combining the graphene nature and size-resulted quantum effects. GQDs possess unique optical and electronic properties, and in particular possess a band-gap less than 2.0 eV because of quantum confinement and edge effects. In this study, we investigated the performance of DSSCs using different thicknesses of ZnO nanoparticles as a photo-anode and GQDs as a green photosensitizer. The current voltage (I-V) test results indicate that the performance of DSSCs is improved by increasing the thickness of the photo-anode and the thickness of 40 μm shows the highest efficiency for DSSC device based on ZnO nanoparticles photo-anodes. The DSSC using ZnO nanoparticles as a photo-anode with thickness of 40 μm shows almost same efficiency when we replaced N-719 with GQDs which is confirmed that using GQDs as an alternative to ruthenium based dyes is a new approach for DSSCs.

Environmental applications of graphene (GN) are limited by the occurrence of aggregation. Herein, graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized, reduced to GN by ascorbic acid, and intercalated with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). GN-CTAB was characterized by Boehm's titration, N2 adsorption/desorption, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fluorescence spectrophotometry, X-ray diffraction and Scanning electron microscopy. Then, GN-CTAB was used for the adsorptive removal of acid red 265 (AR265) and acid orange 7 (AO7) dyes from water both under batch and column operation. Under batch operation, the effect of pH, adsorbent dosage, initial dye concentration, contact time and temperature on dyes adsorption were assessed. Adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics were analyzed systematically. Regarding the fixed bed operation, the effect of both the bed height and flow rate were studied and experimental results fitted to the Thomas and BDST models. Then, the bed loss capacity along five adsorption-regeneration cycles was determined in order to further approach the practical application of GN-CTAB for wastewater treatment, namely for the removal of dyes.

The effects of the concentration of inert organic salts, [MX], (MX=2-, 3- and 4-BrBzNa with BrBzNa=BrC(6)H(4)CO(2)Na) on the rate of piperidinolysis of ionized phenyl salicylate (PS(-)) have been rationalized in terms of pseudophase micellar (PM) coupled with an empirical equation. The appearance of induction concentration in the plots of k(obs) versus [MX] (where k(obs) is pseudo-first-order rate constants for the reaction of piperidine (Pip) with PS(-)) is attributed to the occurrence of two or more than two independent ion exchange processes between different counterions at the cationic micellar surface. The derived kinetic equation, in terms of PM model coupled with an empirical equation, gives empirical parameters F(X/S) and K(X/S) whose magnitudes lead to the calculation of usual ion exchange constant K(X)(Br) (=K(X)/K(Br) with K(X) and K(Br) representing cationic micellar binding constants of counterions X(-) and Br(-), respectively). The value of F(X/S) measures the fraction of S(-) (=PS(-)) ions transferred from the cationic micellar pseudophase to the aqueous phase by the optimum value of [MX] due to ion exchange X(-)/S(-). Similarly, the value of K(X/S) measures the ability of X(-) ions to expel S(-) ions from cationic micellar pseudophase to aqueous phase through ion exchange X(-)/S(-). This rather new technique gives the respective values of K(X)(Br) as 8.8±0.3, 71±6 and 62±5 for X(-)=2-, 3- and 4-BrBz(-). Rheological measurements reveal the shear thinning behavior of all the surfactant solutions at 15mM CTABr (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide) indicating indirectly the presence of rodlike micelles. The plots of shear viscosity (η) at a constant shear rate (γ), i.e. η(γ), versus [MX] at 15 mM CTABr exhibit maxima for MX=3-BrBzNa and 4-BrBzNa while for MX=2-BrBzNa, the viscosity maximum appears to be missing. Such viscosity maxima are generally formed in surfactant solutions containing long stiff and flexible rodlike micelles with entangled and branched/multiconnected networks. Thus, 15 mM CTABr solutions at different [MX] contain long stiff and flexible rodlike micelles for MX=3- and 4-BrBzNa and short rodlike micelles for MX=2-BrBzNa.

HYPOTHESIS: Methyl ester sulfonates (MES) show limited water solubility at lower temperatures (Krafft point). One way to increase their solubility below their Krafft points is to incorporate them in anionic surfactant micelles. The electrostatic interactions between the ionic surfactant molecules and charged micelles play an important role for the degree of MES solubility.

EXPERIMENTS: The solubility and electrolytic conductivity for binary and ternary surfactant mixtures of MES with anionic sodium alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS) and sodium lauryl ether sulfate with two ethylene oxide groups (SLES-2EO) at 5 °C during long-term storage were measured. Phase diagrams were established; a general phase separation theoretical model for their explanation was developed and checked experimentally.

FINDINGS: The binary and ternary phase diagrams for studied surfactant mixtures include phase domains: mixed micelles; micelles + crystallites; crystallites, and molecular solution. The proposed general phase separation model for ionic surfactant mixtures is convenient for construction of such complex phase diagrams and provides information on the concentrations of all components of the complex solution and on the micellar electrostatic potential. The obtained maximal MES mole fraction of transparent micellar solutions could be of interest to increase the range of applicability of MES-surfactants.

The strong binding of Al3+ trivalent counterions to the anionic surfactants sodium polyethylene glycol monoalkyl ether sulfate and α-methyl ester sulfonate results in surface multilayer formation at the air-water interface. In contrast the divalent and monovalent counterions Ca2+ and Na+ result only in monolayer adsorption. Competitive counterion adsorption has been extensively studied in the context of surfactant precipitation and re-dissolution, but remains an important feature in understanding this surface ordering and how it can be manipulated. The α-methyl ester sulfonate surfactants are a promising class of anionic surfactants which have much potential for improved performance in many applications, greater tolerance to extreme solvent conditions such as water hardness, biocompatibility and sustainable production. Hence in this study we have used neutron reflectivity to extend previous studies on the surface ordering of the α-methyl ester sulfonate surfactant, sodium tetradecanoic 2-sulfo 1-methyl ester, in the presence of electrolyte to investigate the role of binary mixtures of electrolytes, AlCl3/CaCl2, and AlCl3/MgCl2. In the mixed electrolytes the evolution of the surface structure, from monolayer to multilayer with increasing AlCl3 concentration, is observed. It is broadly similar to that reported for the addition of only AlCl3. However with increasing CaCl2 concentration the structural evolution is shifted progressively to higher AlCl3 concentrations. Similar observations occur for the AlCl3/MgCl2 mixtures. However the presence of the MgCl2 results in an additional phenomenon; the partial co-adsorption of a more compact lamellar structure which exists until the highest AlCl3 concentrations. The results demonstrate the importance of the competitive adsorption of different counterions in driving and controlling the formation of surface multilayer structures with anionic surfactants. Furthermore it offers a facile route to the manipulation of these surface structures.

The methyl ester sulfonates represent a promising group of anionic surfactants which have the potential for improved performance and biocompatibility in a range of applications. Their solution properties, in particular their tolerance to hard water, suggests that surface ordering may occur in the presence of multi-valent counterion. Understanding their adsorption properties in a range of different circumstances is key to the exploitation of their potential. Neutron reflectivity and surface tension have been used to characterise the adsorption at the air-aqueous solution interface of the anionic surfactant sodium tetradecanoic 2-sulfo 1-methyl ester, C14MES, in the absence of electrolyte and in the presence of mono, di, and tri-valent counterions, Na+, Ca2+, and Al3+. In particular the emphasis has been on exploring the tendency to form layered structures at the interface. In the absence of electrolyte and in the presence of NaCl and CaCl2 and AlCl3 at low concentrations monolayer adsorption is observed, and the addition of electrolyte results in enhanced adsorption. In the presence of NaCl and CaCl2 only monolayer adsorption is observed. However at higher AlCl3 concentrations surface multilayer formation is observed, in which the number of bilayers at the surface depends upon the surfactant and AlCl3 concentrations.

The α-methyl ester sulfonate, MES, anionic surfactants are a potentially important class of sustainable surfactants for a wide range of applications. The eutectic-like Kraft point minimum in the C16 and C18-MES mixtures is an important feature of that potential. Understanding their individual adsorption properties and the surface mixing of the eutectic mixtures are key to their wider exploitation. Neutron reflectivity has been used to investigate the adsorption at the air-water interface of the C16 and C18-MES surfactants and the eutectic mixture of C16 and C18-MES, in aqueous solution and in electrolyte. The micelle mixing of the eutectic mixture is investigated using small angle neutron scattering. The adsorption isotherms for C14 to C18-MES are found to scale with their critical micelle concentration value. The surface and micelle compositions of the C16 and C18-MES eutectic mixture differ from the eutectic composition; with compositions in the limit of high concentrations richer in C16-MES. The mixing properties are described by the pseudo phase approximation with a repulsive interaction between the two surfactants. The impact of the multivalent ions Al3+ on the adsorption at the air-water interface results in a transition from monolayer to multilayer adsorption.

Metal-organic polymers (MOPs) can enhance the photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation performance of BiVO4 photoanodes, but their PEC mechanisms have yet to be comprehended. In this work, we constructed an active and stable composite photoelectrode by overlaying a uniform MOP on the BiVO4 surface using Fe2+ as the metal ions and 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid (DHTA) as ligand. Such modification on the BiVO4 surface yielded a core-shell structure that could effectively enhance the PEC water oxidation activity of the BiVO4 photoanode. Our intensity-modulated photocurrent spectroscopy analysis revealed that the MOP overlayer could concurrently reduce the surface charge recombination rate constant (ksr) and enhance the charge transfer rate constant (ktr), thus accelerating water oxidation activity. These phenomena can be ascribed to the passivation of the surface that inhibits the recombination of the charge carrier and the MOP catalytic layer that improves the hole transfer. Our rate law analysis also demonstrated that the MOP coverage shifted the reaction order of the BiVO4 photoanode from the third-order to the first-order, resulting in a more favorable rate-determining step where only one hole accumulation is required to overcome water oxidation. This work provides new insights into the reaction mechanism of MOP-modified semiconductor photoanodes.

Due to the poor thermal stability of conventional separators, lithium-ion batteries require a suitable separator to maintain system safety for long-term cycling performance. It must have high porosity, superior electrolyte uptake ability, and good ion-conducting properties even at high temperatures. In this work, we demonstrate a novel composite membrane based on sandwiching of zeolitic imidazole frameworks-67 decorated cellulose acetate nanofibers (ZIF-67@CA) with electrospun poly(vinyl alcohol)/melamine (denoted as PVAM) nonwoven membranes. The as-prepared sandwich-type membranes are called PVAM/x%ZIF-67@CA/PVAM. The middle layer of composite membranes is primarily filled with different weight percentages of ZIF-67 nanoparticles (x = 5, 15, and 25 wt%), which both reduces the non-uniform porous structure of CA and increases its thermal stability. Therefore, our sandwich-type PVAM/x%ZIF-67@CA/PVAM membrane exhibits a higher thermal shrinkage effect at 200 °C than the commercial polyethylene (PE) separator. Due to its high electrolyte uptake (646.8%) and porosity (85.2%), PVAM/15%ZIF-67@CA/PVAM membrane achieved high ionic conductivity of 1.46 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 70 °C, as compared to the commercial PE separator (ca. 6.01 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 70 °C). Besides, the cell with PVAM/15%ZIF-67@CA/PVAM membrane shows an excellent discharge capacity of about 167.5 mAh g-1after 100 cycles at a 1C rate with a capacity retention of 90.3%. The ZIF-67 fillers in our sandwich-type composite membrane strongly attract anions (PF6-) through Lewis' acid-base interaction, allowing uniform Li+ ion transport and suppressing Li dendrites. As a result, we found that the PVAM/15%ZIF-67@CA/PVAM composite nonwoven membrane is applicable to high-power, high-safety lithium-ion battery systems that can be used in electric vehicles (EVs).

Membrane-based separation is an appealing solution to mitigate CO2 emission sustainably due to its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. Attributed to its excellent separation endowed by nanomaterial incorporation, nanocomposite membrane is rigorously developed. This study explored the feasibility of boron nitride (BN) embedment and changes to formation mechanism of ultrathin selective layer of thin film nanocomposite (TFN) are investigated. The effects of amine-functionalization on nanosheet-polymer interaction and CO2 separation performance are also identified. Participation of nanosheets during interfacial polymerization reduced the crosslinking of selective layer, hence, improved TFN permeance while the formation of contorted diffusion paths by the nanosheets favors transport of small gases. Amine-functionalization enhanced the nanosheet-polymer interaction and elevated the membrane affinity towards CO2 which led to enhanced CO2 selectivity. The best TFN prepared in this study exhibited 37% and 20% increment in permeability and selectivity, respectively with respect to neat thin film composite (TFC). It is found that the CO2 separation performance of BN incorporated TFN is on par with many non-porous nanosheet-incorporated TFNs reported in literatures. The transport and barrier effects of BN and functionalized BN are discussed in detail to provide further insights into the development of commercially attractive CO2 selective TFN membranes.

The ester sulfonate anionic surfactants are a potentially valuable class of sustainable surfactants. The micellar growth, associated rheological changes, and the onset of precipitation are important consequences of the addition of electrolyte and especially multi-valent electrolytes in anionic surfactants. Small angle neutron scattering, SANS, has been used to investigate the self-assembly and the impact of different valence electrolytes on the self-assembly of a range of ester sulfonate surfactants with subtly different molecular structures. The results show that in the absence of electrolyte small globular micelles form, and in the presence of NaCl, and AlCl3 relatively modest micellar growth occurs before the onset of precipitation. The micellar growth is more pronounced for the longer unbranched and branched alkyl chain lengths. Whereas changing the headgroup geometry from methyl ester to ethyl ester has in general a less profound impact. The study highlights the importance of relative counterion binding strengths and shows how the surfactant structure affects the counterion binding and hence the micelle structure. The results have important consequences for the response of such surfactants to different operational environments.

HYPOTHESIS: The α-sulfo alkyl ester, AES, surfactants are a class of anionic surfactants which have potential for improved sustainable performance in a range of applications, and an important feature is their enhanced tolerance to precipitation in the presence of multivalent counterions. It is proposed that their adsorption properties can be adjusted substantially by changing the length of the shorter alkyl chain, that of the alkanol group in the ester.

EXPERIMENTS: Surface tension and neutron reflectivity have been used to investigate the variation in the adsorption properties with the shorter alkyl chain length (methyl, ethyl and propyl), the impact of NaCl on the adsorption, the tendency to form surface multilayer structures in the presence of AlCl3, and the effects of mixing the methyl ester sulfonate with the ethyl and propyl ester sulfonates on the adsorption.

FINDINGS: The variations in the critical micelle concentration, CMC, the adsorption isotherms, the saturation adsorption values, and the impact of NaCl illustrate the subtle influence of varying the shorter alkyl chain length of the surfactant. The non-ideal mixing of pairs of AES surfactants with different alkanol group lengths of the ester show that the extent of the non-ideality changes as the difference in the alkanol length increases. The surface multilayer formation observed in the presence of AlCl3 varies in a complex manner with the length of the short chain and for mixtures of surfactants with different chains lengths.

The transition from monolayer to multilayer adsorption at the air-water interface in the presence of multivalent counterions has been demonstrated for a limited range of anionic surfactants which exhibit increased tolerance to precipitation in the presence of multivalent counterions. Understanding the role of molecular structure in determining the transition to surface ordering is an important aspect of the phenomenon. The focus of the paper is on the alkyl ester sulfonate, AES, surfactants; a promising group of anionic surfactants, with the potential for improved performance and biocompatibility. Neutron reflectivity measurements were made in aqueous solution and in the presence of NaCl, CaCl2, MgCl2 and AlCl3, for a range of alkyl ester sulfonate surfactants, in which the headgroup and alkyl chain geometries were manipulated. In the regions of monolayer adsorption changing the AES headgroup and alkyl chain geometries results in an increased saturation adsorption and in a more gradual decrease in the adsorption at low concentrations, consistent with a greater adsorption efficiency. Changing the AES headgroup and alkyl chain geometries also results in changes in the transition from monolayer adsorption to more ordered surface structures with the addition of AlCl3 and mixed multivalent electrolytes. A more limited surface layering is observed for the ethyl ester sulfonate, EES, with a C14 alkyl chain. Replacing the C14 alkyl chain with a C18 isostearic chain results in only monolayer adsorption. The results demonstrate the role and importance of the surfactant molecular structure in determining the nature of the surface adsorption in the presence of different electrolytes, and in the tendency to form extended surface multilayer structures.

This work demonstrates a high-performance hybrid asymmetric supercapacitor (HASC) workable in very high current density of 30 A g-1 with in-situ pyrolytic processed sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride/cobalt disulfide (S-gC3N4/CoS2) materials and bio-derived carbon configuration and achievement of high electrochemical stability of 89% over 100,000 cycles with the coulombic efficiency of 99.6%. In the electrochemical studies, the S-gC3N4/CoS2-II electrode showed a high specific capacity of 180 C g-1 at 1 A g-1 current density in the half-cell configuration. The HASC cell was fabricated using S-gC3N4/CoS2-II material and orange peel derived activated carbon as a positive and negative electrode with a maximum operating cell potential of 1.6 V, respectively. The fabricated HASC delivered a high energy density of 26.7 Wh kg-1 and power density of 19.8 kW kg-1 in aqueous electrolyte. The prominent properties in specific capacity and cycling stability could be attributed to the CoS2 nanoparticles engulfed into the S-gC3N4 framework which provides short transport distance of the ions, strong interfacial interaction, and improving structural stability of the S-gC3N4/CoS2-II materials.

Cobalt incorporated sulfur-doped graphitic carbon nitride with bismuth oxychloride (Co/S-gC3N4/BiOCl) heterojunction is prepared by an ultrasonically assisted hydrothermal treatment. The heterojunction materials have employed in photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. The PEC activity and stability of the materials are promoted by constructing an interface between the visible light active semiconductor photocatalyst and cocatalysts. The photocurrent density of Co-9% S-gC3N4/BiOCl has attained 393.0 μA cm-2 at 1.23 V vs. RHE, which is 7-fold larger than BiOCl and ~3-fold higher than 9% S-gC3N4/BiOCl. The enhanced PEC activity can be attributed to the improved electron-hole charge separation and the boosted charge transfer is confirmed by photoluminescence (PL) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis. The fabricated Co/S-gC3N4/BiOCl nanohybrid material has exhibited high stability of up to 10,800 s (3 h) at 1.23 V vs. RHE during PEC water splitting reaction and the obtained photo-conversion efficiency is 3.7-fold greater than S-gC3N4/BiOCl and 17-fold higher than BiOCl. The FESEM and HRTEM images have revealed the formation of heterojunction interface between S-gC3N4 and BiOCl and the elemental mapping has confirmed the presence of cobalt over S-gC3N4/BiOCl. The heterojunction interface has facilitated the photo-excited charge separation and transport across the electrode/electrolyte interface and also the flat-band potential, which is confirmed by Mott-Schottky analysis.

In an effort to minimize the usage of non-renewable materials and to enhance the functionality of the renewable materials, we have developed thin metal oxide coated porous carbon derived from a highly abundant non-edible bio resource, i.e., palm kernel shell, using a one-step activation-coating procedure and demonstrated their superiority as a supercapacitive energy storage electrode. In a typical experiment, an optimized composition contained ~10 wt% of Mn2O3 on activated carbon (AC); a supercapacitor electrode fabricated using this electrode showed higher rate capability and more than twice specific capacitance than pure carbon electrode and could be cycled over 5000 cycles without any appreciable capacity loss in 1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte. A symmetric supercapacitor prototype developed using the optimum electrode showed nearly four times higher energy density than the pure carbon owing to the enhancements in voltage window and capacitance. A lithium ion capacitor fabricated in half-cell configuration using 1 M LiPF6 electrolyte showed larger voltage window, superior capacitance and rate capability in the ~10 wt% Mn2O3 @AC than the pure analogue. These results demonstrate that the current protocol allows fabrication of superior charge storing electrodes using renewable materials functionalized by minimum quantity of earthborn materials.

Herein this research, a visible light active tungsten oxide/copper manganate (WO3/CuMnO2) p-n heterojunction nanocomposite was prepared and has been applied for a signal on photoelectrochemical sensing of antibiotic nitrofurazone (NFZ). Firstly, the n-WO3 nanotiles were synthesized from the cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) assisted hydrothermal method and the p-CuMnO2 nanoparticles were synthesized by using the ultrasound-assisted hydrothermal method. The photoelectrochemical NFZ sensing performance of WO3/CuMnO2 nanocomposite was 1.9 times higher than that of as-synthesized pure WO3 nanotiles. The resulting higher photoelectrochemical performance of the nanocomposite is due to more visible light absorption ability and synergy from p-n heterojunction formation. The designed WO3/CuMnO2 nanocomposite sensor gives satisfactory photocurrent signals for the detection of NFZ in the range of 0.015-32 μM with the detection limit (LOD) of 1.19 nM. The practical applicability of the nanocomposite sensor was monitored in pork liver and tap water samples.

Grafting of free maleimide and epoxide pendant groups onto the surface of approximately 7-nm silica nanoparticles was investigated. Glycidyloxypropyl groups (3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane and 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane) that carried epoxide groups and aminopropyl groups were grafted to the silica surface with the help of condensation reactions. Maleimide groups [1,1(')-(methylenedi-4,1-phenelene) bismaleimide] were introduced to the silica surface via nucleophilic addition reaction with the aminopropyl groups pre-grafted onto the surface. The grafted silica samples were characterized using CHN, FTIR, DSC, TGA-FTIR, and 13C and 29Si CP/MAS NMR spectroscopy. NMR analyses revealed that all the functional groups were covalently bonded to the silica surface and most of the maleimide and epoxide rings remained intact on surface. DSC analysis showed that the epoxide groups were more reactive than the maleimide groups.

Herein, self-assembled three-dimensional reduced graphene oxide (RGO)-based hydrogels were synthesized and characterized in detail. A thorough investigation on the uptake of three widely used pharmaceutical drugs, viz. Naproxen (NPX), Ibuprofen (IBP) and Diclofenac (DFC) was carried out from aqueous solutions. To ensure the sustainability of developed hydrogel assembly, practically important parameters such as desorption, recyclability and applicability to real samples were also evaluated. Using the developed 3D hydrogels as adsorptive platforms, excellent decontamination for the above mentioned persistent pharmaceutical drugs was achieved in acidic pH with a removal efficiency in the range of 70-80%. These hydrogels showed fast adsorption kinetics and experimental findings were fitted to different kinetic models, such as pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, intra-particle and the Elovich models in an attempt to better understand the adsorption kinetics. Furthermore, equilibrium adsorption data was fitted to the Langmuir and Freundlich models, where relatively higher R2 values obtained in case of former one suggested that monolayer adsorption played an important part in drug uptake. Thermodynamic aspects were also studied and negative ΔG0 values obtained indicated the spontaneous nature of adsorption process. The study was also extended to check practical utility of as-prepared hydrogels by spiking real aqueous samples with drug solution, where high % recoveries obtained for NPX, IBP and DFC were of particular importance with regard to prospective application in wastewater treatment systems. We advocate RGO-based hydrogels as environmentally benign, readily recoverable/recyclable material with excellent adsorption capacity for application in wastewater purification.
