In this paper, an implicit 2-point Block Backward Differentiation formula (BBDF) method was considered for solving Delay Differential Equations (DDEs). The method was implemented by using a constant stepsize via Newton Iteration. This implicit block method was expected to produce two points simultaneously. The efficiency of the method was compared with the existing classical 1-point Backward Differentiation Formula (BDF) in terms of execution time and accuracy.

This paper presents the evaluation of integrated partial match query in Geographic Information Retrieval (GIR). To facilitate the evaluation, Kuala Lumpur tourist related data is used as test collection and is stored in SuperWeb, a map server. Then the map server is customized to enhance its query capability to recognize word in partial or case sensitive between layers of spatial data. Query keyword is tested using the system and results are evaluated using experiments on sample data. Findings show that integrated partial match query provides more flexibility to tourist in determining search results.

Mass valuation of properties is important for purposes like property tax, price indices construction, and understanding market dynamics. There are several ways that the mass valuation can be carried out. This paper reviews the conventional MRA and several other advanced methods such as SAR, Kriging, GWR, and MWR. SAR and Kriging are good for modeling spatial dependence while GWR and MWR are good for modeling spatial heterogeneity. The difference between SAR and Kriging is the calculation of weights. Kriging weights are based on the spatial dependence or so called the semi-variogram analysis of the price data whereas the weights in SAR are based on the spatial contiguity between the sample data. MWR and GWR are special types of regression where study region is subdivided into local sections to increase the accuracy of prediction through neutralizing the heterogeneity of autocorrelations. MWR assigns equal weights for observations within a window while GWR uses distance decay functions. The merits and drawbacks of each method are discussed.

We had reviewed the current practice in stocks market analysis where stock is represented by its closing price, and then found that this approach may be misleading. In actuality, in the daily activity of stocks market, stock is represented by four prices, namely opening, highest, lowest, and closing prices. Thus, stock is a multivariate time series of those four prices and not a univariate time series of closing price only. In this paper all four prices will be considered. Then, the notion of multivariate time series similarity among stocks will be developed as a generalisation of univariate time series similarity. The results are used to construct stocks network in multivariate setting. To filter the economic information contained in that network, the standard tools in econophysics is used. Furthermore, the topological properties of stocks are analysed by using the most common centrality measures. As an example, Bursa Malaysia data are investigated and we show that the proposed approach can better figure out the real situation compared to the current one.

Soil properties are very crucial for civil engineers to differentiate one type of soil from another and to predict its mechanical behavior. However, it is not practical to measure soil properties at all the locations at a site. In this paper, an estimator is derived to estimate the unknown values for soil properties from locations where soil samples were not collected. The estimator is obtained by combining the concept of the ‘Inverse Distance Method’ into the technique of ‘Kriging’. The method of Lagrange Multipliers is applied in this paper. It is shown that the estimator derived in this paper is an unbiased estimator. The partiality of the estimator with respect to the true value is zero. Hence, the estimated value will be equal to the true value of the soil property. It is also shown that the variance between the estimator and the soil property is minimized. Hence, the distribution of this unbiased estimator with minimum variance spreads the least from the true value. With this characteristic of minimum variance unbiased estimator, a high accuracy estimation of soil property could be obtained.

Maintenance is a vital system in a manufacturing company. The maintenance objectives are to ensure that the machine is in good condition, serviceable and safe to be operated in producing quality products. However, the system usually imposes a high cost system due to its ineffective activities. Therefore, this paper was written to review the factors affecting the maintenance effectiveness and methods used to measure its performance. In this paper, maintenance performance measurement methods are categorized into three groups, based on holistic, machine, and value factors. Each group is discussed based on the principles and techniques of the maintenance performance measurement methods, along with the example of its applications in the industry. The most common methods used are the holistic approach, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), and balance score-card (BSC). These various methods have their own benefits and drawbacks, according to the area of measurement.

In this modern world, Information Technology gives impacts on society, countries, economy, and environment. This paper discusses the positive, negative, direct and indirect impacts of IT on environmental issues. A strategy for sustainable development in ICT and its future demand are also proposed. Apart from that, a research was also done to find a quantitative indicator to show the relationship between demand in IT industry and impacts to the environment. By using a mathematical formula, an estimation of the effect to the environment can be found. By using the indicator, it is hoped that society and the IT industry will become more aware of their action to the environment.

Elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECC) provides better security for each bit key utilized compared to the RSA cryptosystem. For this reason, it is projected to have more practical usage than the RSA. In ECC, scalar multiplication (or point multiplication) is the dominant operation, namely, computing nP from a point P on an elliptic curve, where n is an integer defined as the point resulting from adding P + P + ... + P, n times. However, for practical uses, it is very important to improve the efficiency of the scalar multiplication. Solinas (1997) proposes that the τ-adic Non-Adjacent Form (τ-NAF) is one of the most efficient algorithms used to compute scalar multiplications on Anomalous Binary curves. In this paper, we give a new property (i.e., Theorem 1.2) of τ-NAF(n) representation for every length, l. This is useful for evaluating the maximum and minimum norms occurring among all length-l elements of Z(τ). We also propose a new cryptographic method by using randomization of a multiplier n to nr an element of Z(τ). It is based on τ-NAF. We focused on estimating the length of RTNAF(nr) expansion by using a new method.

A multivariate control chart is a common tool used for monitoring and controlling a process whose quality is determined by several related variables. The objective of this study is to compare the performances of the multivariate exponentially weighted moving average (MEWMA) and the multivariate synthetic T2 control charts, for the case of a multivariate normally distributed process. A comparative study is made based on the average run length (ARL) performances of the control charts, using the simulation method, in order to identify the chart having the best performance in monitoring the process mean vector. The performances of the two charts, for different sample sizes and correlation coefficients, are presented in this paper. It was found that the MEWMA chart outperformed synthetic T2 chart for small shifts but the latter prevailed for moderate shifts. Both charts performed equally well for larger shifts. In addition, the performances of both MEWMA and synthetic T2 charts were found to be influenced by sample size and correlation coefficient. The two charts’ performances improved as the sample size and correlation coefficient increased for small and moderate shifts, but the charts’ performances did not depend on sample size and correlation coefficient when the shift was large.

This paper presents the numerical modelling techniques for the simulation of the energy conversion chain from wave to electricity in an Oscillating Water Column (OWC) equipped with a full-scaled self rectifying turbine. The performance of the OWC device has been assessed for the stand-alone power system of a typical Irish climatic wave condition. The results showed that the overall performance of the complete device depends on the level of turbine damping, which in turn depends on the wave climate, especially the significant wave height. Furthermore, turbine efficiency predicted using quasi-steady showed qualitatively favourable agreement with the experimental results.

In this paper, we study the numerical method for solving second order Fuzzy
Differential Equations (FDEs) using Block Backward Differential Formulas (BBDF)
under generalized concept of higher-order fuzzy differentiability. Implementation of
the method using Newton iteration is discussed. Numerical results obtained by BBDF
are presented and compared with Backward Differential Formulas (BDF) and exact
solutions. Several numerical examples are provided to illustrate our methods.

In recent years, many classification models have been developed and applied to increase their accuracy. The concept of distance between two samples or two variables is a fundamental concept in multivariate analysis. This paper proposed a tool that used different similarity distance approaches with ranking method based on Mean Average Precision (MAP). In this study, several similarity distance methods were used, such as Euclidean, Manhattan, Chebyshev, Sorenson and Cosine. The most suitable distance measure was based on the smallest value of distance between the samples. However, the real solution showed that the results were not accurate as and thus, MAP was considered the best approach to overcome current limitations.

The aim of this paper is to identify, review and carry out comparison to seven guidelines where the main focus is on its risk
assessment elements related to confined space activities. This is due to lack of the specific approach of the Legislation for confined
space such as entry procedure requirements, risk assessment method, existing practice of risk assessment is too general and additional
references are required for conducting risk assessment which would lead to poor response from industries. The selected guidelines will
be summarized on its requirements, followed by a review of each guideline and finally the comparison of Legislations will be carried
out. The results from the study would be used as a contribution factor to promote an ideal method in developing an effective risk
assessment tools for working safely in confined space. Furthermore, several literatures which have been referred could give additional
input for developing the risk assessment tools.

Markov map is one example of interval maps where it is a piecewise expanding
map and obeys the Markov property. One well-known example of Markov map is the
doubling map, a map which has two subintervals with equal partitions. In this paper, we
are interested to investigate another type of Markov map, the so-called skewed doubling
map. This map is a more generalized map than the doubling map. Thus, the aims of this
paper are to find the fixed points as well as the periodic points for the skewed doubling
map and to investigate the sensitive dependence on initial conditions of this map. The
method considered here is the cobweb diagram. Numerical results suggest that there exist
dense of periodic orbits for this map. The sensitivity of this map to initial conditions is
also verified where small differences in initial conditions give different behaviour of the
    orbits in the map.

Numerical application helps researchers in simulating various problems and used for solving partial differential equation. Half sweep and quarter sweep approach have been applied onto iterative method to gain approximation solution. In this paper, the implementation of full sweep successive over relaxation (FSSOR), half sweep successive over relaxation (HSSOR) and quarter sweep successive over relaxation (QSSOR) methods and full sweep accelerated over relaxation (FSAOR), half sweep accelerated over relaxation (HSAOR) and quarter sweep accelerated over relaxation (QSAOR) for its numerical engines are shown. QSSOR and QSAOR method was the fastest among FSSOR, HSSOR, FSAOR and HSAOR methods. Additionally, QSAOR performance is more accurate than QSSOR.

In this paper we present a new line search method known as the HBFGS method, which uses the search direction of the conjugate gradient method with the quasi-Newton updates. The Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno (BFGS) update is used as approximation of the Hessian for the methods. The new algorithm is compared with the BFGS method in terms of iteration counts and CPU-time. Our numerical analysis provides strong evidence that the proposed HBFGS method is more efficient than the ordinary BFGS method. Besides, we also prove that the new algorithm is globally convergent.

In this paper, an improved trigonometrically fitted zero-dissipative explicit two-step hybrid method with fifth algebraic
order is derived. The method is applied to several problems where by the solutions are oscillatory in nature. Numerical
results obtained are compared with existing methods in the scientific literature. The comparison shows that the new
method is more effective and efficient than the existing methods of the same order.

In this paper, the steady Falkner-Skan solution for gravity-driven film flow of a micropolar fluid is theoretically investigated. The resulting nonlinear ordinary differential equations are solved numerically using an implicit finite-difference scheme. The results obtained for the skin friction coefficient as well as the velocity and microrotation or angular velocity profiles are shown in table and figures for different values of the material or micropolar parameter K.
