    Acrylamide is a monomer to polyacrylamide; a polymer with diverse application in basic research, industries and agriculture. The monomer is highly toxic while the polymeric form is slowly degraded to its monomeric form in the environment. In this mini review, the toxicity, uses, pollution and biodegradation of this important monomer are discussed. An important aspect of this review is to highlight the application of microorganisms as remediating agent for the removal of this compound from the environment.

    Smoking among school children is becoming a serious problem in developing countries, including Bangladesh. The early initiation of smoking needs urgent intervention to protect this vulnerable group and preventing them to be addicted. This study aims to determine the age at initiation of smoking and factors affecting it. A two-stage cluster sampling was used with a selection of schools on probability proportional to enrolment size followed by stratified random sampling of government and private schools and then a random start in classes VIII, IX and X of each school targeting the students aged 13 years and above. Data collected from secondary school students using self-administered structured questionnaire. All analyses were performed with SPSS version 20.0. Missing value was treated by multiple imputations. A total of 6877 data were analysed in which 84.7% were non-smoker, 9.5% were ever smoker and 5.8% were current smokers. Among the ever smoker (n=823), 38% were current smokers, 56.5% former and 5.5% were recent quitters. The mean (SD) age at initiation of smoking was 10.9 (0.2) years. Multinomial regression analysis revealed that class grade, peer pressure and offered free cigarette appeared to be significant predictors of smoking initiation (p0.05). Promotion of smoking resistance skills among children and teens through comprehensive approaches designed to enhance general personal competence by teaching an array of personal and social life skills is recommended.

    Participation and adherence to the law and cultivation of anti-tobacco culture became the important issues for reducing the tobacco use prevalence in the community. Measuring the perception of tobacco policy indirectly measures the acceptability of the law. This study aims to determine the perception of students on anti-tobacco policy in terms of tobacco free school environment and factors that support or deter them. A two-stage cluster samplingtechnique was used for selection of schools with probability proportional to enrolment size followed by stratified random sampling of government and private schools. Data were collected from 6563 secondary school students using
    structured questionnaire. Analysis showed that 66.2% of the female students and 33.8% of the male student have strong supportive attitude towards tobacco free school environment. Logistic regression analysis revealed that class grade IX and above, father’s occupation as service, family size less than 6, higher economic status, non smoker, non exposure to second hand smoking in the house and discussion of dangers of smoking appeared to have important influencing factors for tobacco free school environment (p

    Robotic navigation has remained an open issue through the last two decades. Mobile robot
    is required to navigate safely to goal location in presence of obstacles. Recently the use of mobile
    robot in unknown dynamic environment has significantly increased. The aim of this paper is to offer a
    comprehensive review over different approaches to mobile robots in dynamic environments,
    particularly on how they solve many issues that face the researchers recently. This paper also explains
    the advantages and drawbacks of each reviewed paper. The authors decide to categorize these articles
    based on the entire content of each paper into ten common challenges which have been discussed in
    this paper, including: traveling distance, traveling time, safety, motion control, smooth path, future
    prediction, stabilization, competence, precision, and low computation cost. Finally, some open areas
    and challenging topics are offered according to the articles mentioned.

    Due to the latest industrial development, many dangerous chemicals have been released directly or indirectly which resulted in the polluted water bodies. Water rehabilitation is an alternative way to restore the quality of water, followed by the environmental management to control the waste discharge to ensure the balance of the degradation rates or detoxifying by environmental factors. However, this process consumed a lot of time and cost. Besides, most of the metal ions, especially copper which is capable to bioaccumulate in aquatic organism and at the elevated level may cause physiological and biochemical alteration which leads to mortality. Environmental monitoring is the initial step presupposed evaluating the potential toxicity of effluent gushing at its purpose to discharge, avoiding the determining effects of contaminant in water bodies. Due to the high sensitivity of the aquatic life towards dissolving toxicant, the fish has been utilized as the biological measurement (Biomarker) to indicate the existence of toxicant exposure and/or the impact towards the evaluation of molecular, cellular to physiological level. Thus, this paper gives an overview of the manipulation of fish as a biomarker of heavy metals through behavior response, hepatocyte alteration, enzymatic reaction and proteomic studies which have proven to be very useful in the environmental pollution monitoring.

    This paper presents an auto grasping algorithm of a proposed robotic gripper. The purpose is to enhance the grasping mechanism of the gripper. Earlier studies have introduced various methods to enhance the grasping mechanism, but most of the works have not looked at the weight measurement method. Thus, with this algorithm, the weight of the object is calculated based on modified Wheatstone Bridge Circuit (WBC) which is controlled by programmable interface controller (PIC) method. Having this approach introduces and improves the grasping mechanism through an auto grasping algorithm. Experimental results show that an auto grasping algorithm based on pressure sensor measurements leads to a more precise grasping measurement and consequently enhance the sensitivity measurement as well as accurate movement calibration. Furthermore, several different grasping objects based on the proposed method are examined to demonstrate the performance and robustness of our approach.
