    The article highlights on the previous literature on the attitudes of college or university students towards people with disabilities in the social context globally. The article also includes factors that influence the willingness of college or university students to build relationship with people with disabilities in the social context (such as friendship, dating, and marriage) and perceptions of students that add to the existing challenges encountered by people with disabilities. When perception is being measured in a more specific dimension, such as, in the social distance context, it provides a practical means to understand people’s awareness towards disability

    This research aimed to determine the correlation between level of depression, anxiety and stress among counselling students at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This research adopted a correlational study with a quantitative approach in order to observe the correlation between the variables. Eighty six (86) respondents participated in this study. The study was conducted using Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) instrument. The result showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of depression, anxiety and stress among counselling students at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This research also provides awareness towards the counselling students on their level of depression, anxiety and stress. For future research, it is suggested that personality test and scoring test be conducted for level of depression, anxiety and stress in order to see the correlations between variables.

    Mobile Guide technologies in public spaces, particularly museum are not new and have changed the way visitors’ access information during their visit. Smartphone applications (apps) are increasingly popular because it can be accessed before, during and after the museum visits. This has impacted the way exhibitions are designed and the resulting visitor experience. Therefore, it is important to measure what effect the use of smartphone technology has on visitor experience. An “in the wild” study was conducted to investigate visitor experience in Islamic Art museum, both with and without Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) Mobile Guide (smartphone apps). A total of 55 participants took part in the study. The Museum Experience Scale (MES) was used to measure visitor experience, whilst the Multimedia Guide Scale (MMGS) was used to measure visitors’ experiences with the IAMM Mobile Guide. Results showed that scores on all components of MES suggested a positive experience at the IAMM with the component of meaningful experience being the highest score, followed by the component of knowledge and learning. Scores on the MMGS also showed a positive experience in using the mobile guide with learnability and control scored the highest, followed by general usability.

    Eyewitnesses typically talk about the traumatic events that they have experienced based on their memory. This research aimed to investigate differences between emotional and factual retelling of eyewitness in terms of memory accuracy and error. Participants watched a traumatic robbery video and were instructed to recall the events in detail. Participants were divided into three retelling conditions where they: a) discussed the robbery in a factual way, b) focused on discussing their emotional response, and c) performed unrelated tasks. Results showed that eyewitnesses who talked about their emotion recalled less detailed memories and made more errors in free recall while eyewitnesses who focused on factual detail seem to be able to maintain their memory accuracy of the event.

    It is significant for the reverts to have an existing helping organization. Therefore, this study aims to identify organizational issues that are directly and indirectly involved with counsellors at the Council of Islamic Religious Department in Malaysia. This study utilizes a qualitative approach by using the case study method. This study involved five (5) counsellors from Council of Islamic Religious Department in Malaysia. This study used the N'Vivo 10.0 for the data analysis to develop themes and sub-themes that related to this study. The findings showed that there are two (2) sub themes involved both government and non-government. There are six (6) sub-sub themes for the government which are Jabatan Agama Islam, Jabatan Mufti, Pusat Dakwah Islamiah, Pusat Kaunseling MAINS Negeri Sembilan, Jabatan Kehakiman and Baitulmal. While, non-government has ten (10) sub-sub themes; Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia, Unit Saudara Baru, Unit Ukhuwah, Pusat Saudara Baru Darul Saadah, Darul Ukhuwah Yayasan Kasih Sayang, Volunteer Body, Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM), PERKAMA and Skuad Mubaligh Seremban. In conclusion, this study could be used as a guide for counsellors to provide guidance and counselling services to revert clients.

    This research was aimed to study the relationship between attachment style and relationship quality among young couples. A correlational research design was adopted to answer the objectives of this study. A total of 257 students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Sarawak participated in this study. Two types of questionnaire were used in this study; the Experience in Close Relationship (ECR) to measure the attachment styles, and Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI) to measure the relationship satisfaction of the couples. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between attachment style and relationship quality among the young couples in UNIMAS. Attachment avoidance and attachment anxiety had a significant effect on the relationship quality of the young couples. It is suggested for future studies to consider selecting the samples by using simple random sampling as the targeted population would be able to represent the whole population and the result would be more accurate.

    This study aims to determine the mediating effects of coping strategies on the relationships between organizational support (supervisor and coworker support) and work-family conflict. A questionnaire survey approach was conducted with the purposive sampling. This study was contributed to 342 married employees from different organizations in the Luangprabang province, Laos. The gathered data was analyzed by employing the Structural Equation Modeling using SPSS Amos 21.0 software. The findings showed that organizational support (supervisor support and coworker support) was not significantly related to work-family conflict. Problemfocused coping was not significantly related to work-family conflict, whereas emotion-focused coping was significantly related to work-family conflict. This is one of the first studies to provide empirical evidence in terms of the mediating effects regarding coping strategies among married employees in Laos. The organizations should consider the coping strategies and the support from supervisors and colleagues in formulating strategies to minimize work-family conflict. Additionally, problem-focused coping is a more meaningful predictor of work-family conflict than emotion-focused coping. Providing the training of the comprehensive coping program to the employees could help them to be sensitive in coping work-family conflict. This study could serve as an important guideline to develop planning strategies in managing work and family role and promoting work-life balance among the employees.

    The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of supervisory relationship on supervision satisfaction among trainee counselors. The Supervisory Relationship Questionnaire (SRQ) is to measure the supervisory relationship and Supervisory Satisfaction Questionnaire (SSQ) is used to measure supervision satisfaction. The finding shows that supervisory relationship and its subscales (Safe Base, Structure, Commitment, Reflective Education, Role Model and Formative Feedback) have a positively significant relationship with supervision satisfaction among trainee counselors (safe base: r = 0.73, p < 0.05, structure: r = 0.65, p < 0.05, commitment: r = 0.69, p < .05, reflective education: r = 0.70, p < 0.05, role model: r = 0.51, p < 0.05, formative feedback: r = 0.71, p < 0.05 and supervisory relationship: r = 0.79, p < 0.05). The findings of this research also found that supervisory relationship, safe base and role model variables have significant influence on supervision satisfaction among trainee counselors with F (1, 98) = 169.59, p < 0.05, Adjusted R2 = 0.63 for supervisory relationship variable, F (3, 96) = 68.68, p < 0.05, Adjusted R2 = 67 for safe base variable and F (2, 97) = 96.47, p < 0.05, Adjusted R2 = 0.65 for role model variable. Supervisory relationship variable has the greatest influence (β = .79) while role model variable has the least influence (β = - 0.28) on supervision satisfaction. As for the theoretical implication, the finding of this research has proven Marina Palomo’s theoretical framework in ‘Bi-directional Model of the Supervisory Relationship’. Meanwhile in practical implication, this research has raised awareness on the importance of supervisory relationship on supervision satisfaction in counseling supervision.

    Parental involvement during early childhood development is important especially when the child has learning disabilities. This research aims to study the effectiveness of parental-based speech training programs for preschoolers with Speech Language Impairments (SLI) in a localized setting. The method used was qualitative and data was collected from selected preschoolers (N = 5) with different types of SLI symptoms. Each participant was assessed using a standardized assessment protocol to measure his/her language scale. The participants were given the intervention program by their own parents using the Hanen’s It Takes Two to Talk program. The progress of each subject and observations from these sessions were documented. The participants were assessed again once the intervention had been implemented. Substantial results were achieved when all subjects showed improvements in language comprehension and production skills. These results highlight the importance of parental involvement as first teachers in the early intervention of children with SLI.

    This study aimed to explore the influence of adult attachment on relationship quality among parents having children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). A correlational research design was used to achieve the research objectives. Sixty eight parents of children with ADHD participated in this study. Two measures were used in this study: the Experience in Close Relationship (ECR) and the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS). The findings indicated that when the anxiety attachment level of the participants was high, the marital satisfaction was low.The findings of this study can make a contribution to those focusing on conflict resolution and marital quality with a deeper understanding on the interpersonal problems in the relationship from attachment theory perspectives. It is suggested that a longitudinal research be conducted in the future with both groups of clinical and community in order to explore how attachment variables can predict relationship adjustment and child adjustment overtime.

    The global drop in oil and natural gas industry have had a significant impact on the
    Malaysian market and have potentially redirected Malaysia under a negative global
    spotlight. The layoff rate in oil and natural gas organizations have risen dramatically,
    this situation may affect the satisfaction level among employees and their loyalty in
    the respective oil and natural gas industry. The present study is aimed to determine the
    relationship between employee satisfaction and employee loyalty in Oil and Natural
    Gas Industry. Using simple random sampling technique 100 employees working in Oil
    and Natural Gas Industry were selected as respondents. Questionnaire was used for
    data collection. Results obtained showed that there is positive correlation between different
    components of employee satisfaction and employee loyalty. A notable variable
    that emerged in the analysis was compensation and benefits, while career development
    was least important that predisposed loyalty.

    Dyslexia is a language disorder that leads to difficulty with words and it is the most common type of learning disability. This article presents a systematic review on the current state of assistive technologies used in improving the learning process of learn-ers with dyslexia. A total of 25 journals articles and international conference papers published between 2000 and 2014 were included in the review. The research articles were collected from 12 databases and analyzed based on the qualitative cyclical pro-cess. A majority of the studies focused on children and adolescents. Four main themes on the types of technologies used in aiding the learning process of learners with dys-lexia are derived and discussed. These include text-to-speech, eye-tracking, virtual learning environments, and games. The text-to-speech technology is the most common type of technology used by learners with dyslexia. In terms of the roles played by the assistive technologies, another four emerging themes are identified, which cover the roles of aiding reading, writing, memory, and mathematics. The review also discovers that a majority of these studies focus on the use of technologies for improving the reading ability of learners with dyslexia.

    The article highlights a preliminary study on smoking and its impact on absenteeism and stress in the work place. The article also includes an application of the Theory of Planned Behaviour in explaining the behavior of smoking. The Theory of Planned Behavior which was proposed by Icek Ajzen is used to predict an individual’s behav-ioural control and intention which are influenced by attitude and social norms to per-form a behaviour. This article also discusses previous researches done on smoking and its relationship with absenteeism and stress among employees in organizations.

    This research aims to identify the issues among female engineers in the perspective of their career success. The issues that were identified are work-life balance, gender stereotyping and slow progression on the career success. The research design is a qualitative approach by in-depth interview. The research design which consisted of ten items aimed to explore female engineers’ satisfaction of working in the construc-tion industry, unequal employment in the workplace, persistent problems in managing work-life balance, the role of gender in developing career success and also factors that positively and negatively affect the retention of female engineers in the construc-tion industry. Five participants were recruited from various construction companies in Malaysia. Four of them were interviewed via phone calls and one via electronic mail. The findings from this research show that work-life balance issue is the main issue. Other issues include gender stereotype, nature of work and the competition among male and female engineers. From these findings, one recommendation is that the top management of an organization can provide full support to the employees so that they can be more productive in the workplace and are able to balance their work and non-work responsibilities.

    Perceived work environment could be described as the opinions and attitudes of workers towards their work condition. Elements of perceived work environment such as physical environment, supportive work environment, and perceived work tasks may possibly be important factors that influence the occurrence of accidents. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship between perceived work environment and the occurrence of accidents within an electronic manufacturing industry in Kuching, Sarawak. A cross-sectional survey utilizing a bilingual self-report questionnaire was conducted to garner data from 50 workers. Independent t-test and Pearson moment correlation were used to assess data. The results indicated that the occurrence of accidents was not affected by age group. Although physical environment and perceived work tasks did not demonstrate significant relationships with the occurrence of accidents, supportive work environment exhibited a significant inverse relationship, thereby indicating that accidents could be lowered in the presence of higher supportive work environment. Thus, support and help from co-workers are essential determinants of safety at the workplace.

    This study aims to determine the relationship between non-financial compensation factors and employees retention in a selected hotel industry. A survey methodology was used in this study. A total of 120 questionnaires were administered to employees who are currently working in the hotel industry. Using the Pearson’s Correlation analysis test, this study analysed the relationship between employees retention and financial compensation factors which include opportunities for training and promotion, job challenges, recognition and the working environment. Multiple Linear Regression was used to determine the dominant factor that contributes to retention of employees. The results revealed that there was a significant relationship between the factors and employees retention. The results indicated that the working environment is the most dominant factor that contributes to employees retention.

    Launching a hotline service is just one stage in the process of dealing with customers. Crucial to meeting its objectives is the development of human resources to imple-ment the hotline. This is to ensure that quality and standard are demonstrated in or-der to justify its existence. This paper presents the findings and reflection of an ac-tion research intervention to improve the Hotline Complaint Service of a local au-thority, the Kuching City South Council in Sarawak, Malaysia. The action research process in this study involved five mini cycles of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. Visits, participant observations, interviews and questionnaires were used in the data collection process. The data were analyzed using content analysis, and the findings validated through triangulation methods. The findings suggest that there was still room for improvement in the Council’s Complaint Service. An on-the-job experience for the hotline staff was implemented during which a guideline called the “13 Basic Principles in Effective Telephone Handling”; a “Handbook” on services provided by the Public Cleansing Division; and “Form A” were created and imple-mented. This study shows that action research is an important component of human resource development interventions that provides employees the opportunity to ac-quire the knowledge and skills through on-the-job experience to improve their per-formance and enhance the efficiency and productivity of their organization.

    The media has a powerful ability to influence and shape society’s perceptions towards people with disabilities. The portrayal of individuals with disabilities within the media can often have an enormous impact on the way that are perceived by viewers. In Malaysia, people with disabilities are frequently viewed as pitiful, thus medias are more likely to use the element of sympathy in order to garner support from its targeted audience. The focus of this article is on the portrayal of people with disabilities in a popular television series in Malaysia, Kerana Cintaku Saerah (Because of My Love, Saerah) through the analysis of; self-acceptance by the characters with disabilities, family and society’s acceptance, and disability stereotypes in the Malay society. The findings revealed the ideation of how people with disabilities are treated, as well as exhibits disability stereotypes that exist in the Malay society.

    Web 2.0 has given opportunities in letting students learn through active collaboration
    with and from their peers. The purpose of this study is to explore interactions that
    happens between learners, types of contributions made and learners’ experience when
    collaborating in a Web-based context. The finding shows that the learners contribute
    in terms of adding, editing and deleting content and structure of their report. The learners’
    pattern of interaction shows that the learners with higher level of English proficiency
    are more dominant towards learners with lower level of proficiency. Students
    feedback shows that they are accepting the idea of writing collaboratively. Overall,
    the learners gave positive response towards the use of Google Docs in collaboratively
    completing their report writing project.

    This study aims to identify the relationship between boundary work tactics (behav-ioral, temporal, physical and communicative) and work-family conflict among work-ing women. A survey methodology was used in this study. This research involves the utilisation of questionnaire which was administered among one-hundred and three (103) working women currently working in a selected organisation. This study was conducted in a selected private organisation in Kuching, Sarawak. The relationship between boundary work tactics and work-family conflicts was analyzed using the Pearson’s correlation analysis test. The results of this study revealed that there is a significant relationship between behavioral tactics, temporal tactics, and communica-tive tactics with work-family conflict. Hence, from this study, the organisation can implement more strategic tactics to reduce work-family conflicts when the working women are challenged to balance responsibilities between their work and family.
