5. The relation of Sumatran mite fever to the tsutsugamushi disease of British Malaya

   Abstract

   1. Cross-protection tests between a strain of Sumatran mllite-fever and strains of the tsutsugamushi disease were done in the rabbit and monkev with the object of elucidating the inter-relation of these two diseases.
   2. It is concluded that Sumatran mite-fever is not a disease sui qeneris, but is identical with the tsutsugamushi disease.

   Abstract

   1. A disease occurring among Chinese in Malaya is described. The main complaints are weakness and numbness of the legs ; and the main signs absent tendon reflexes, sensory loss and ataxia.
   2. The aetiology is discussed and the disease is thought to be a form of pellagra modified by other factors in the diet or circumstances of those affected.
