    Objective: To determine the perceived risk of developing cancer in a suburban community in Malaysia. Methods:
    A cross sectional study using a simple random sampling was conducted among residents aged 18 years old and above
    (n=520) who had never been diagnosed with cancer, in selected households in a suburban area of Pahang state in
    Malaysia. The study instruments were a validated questionnaire on risk perception, an automatic blood pressure monitor,
    a weighing scale and a measuring tape. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 20.0 and
    the p value was taken at p <0.05 as significant. Result: This study revealed that only 5.0 percent individuals perceived
    they were at risk cancer, whilst the perceived severity was 41.3 percent. Multivariable analysis showed a significant
    association only for a family history of cancer (adjusted OR of 4.80; 95% CI = 1.45-15.82) (p=0.010) among this
    population. Conclusion: The perceived risk of developing cancer in the selected suburban community of Pahang state in
    Malaysia is low as compared to that for other non-communicable diseases in this country, whilst the perceived severity
    was higher than for other diseases. Thus, considering the importance of correct perceptions for behavioral changes,
    more health education and promotion is needed to make the community better aware of the actual threat of cancer.

    INTRODUCTION: Stunting is the most prevalent form of malnutrition among infants and young children population, both globally and locally. It refers to low height-for-age children and is primarily caused by chronic under nutrition. The objective of this study is to determine the association between stunting and feeding problems and to explore the risk factors for stunting among children aged 6 to 59 months attending health clinics in the Kuantan district.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A case-control study involving 160 children that attended six health clinics in Kuantan from August to October 2021 with a ratio of 1 case: 3 controls. Data were collected from mothers using a questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic and feeding assessment adapted from a validated World Health Organization (WHO) integrated management of childhood illness (IMCI) assessment form. The data was analysed using IBM SPSS version 26.0. Binary logistic regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with stunting. The odds ratio was used to measure the strength of the association between outcome and predictor variables. The significance value was set at p<0.05.

    RESULTS: Children with identified feeding problems have more than four-time significantly higher risk of becoming stunted (Odds Ratios, OR: 4.2; 95% Confidence Intervals, 95%CI: 1.4, 12.8) as compared to children with no feeding problems. Specifically, children with inadequacy in feeding components; amount, variety and frequency of meal each have significantly six-time higher risk (OR: 6.2; 95%CI: 2.7, 14.5), four-time higher risk (OR: 4.2; 95%CI: 1.4, 12.3), and three-time higher risk (OR: 2.8; 95%CI: 1.1, 6.9), of becoming stunted as compared to children with adequate feeding. Additionally, with a decrease of one week in delivery week, one kilogram in birth weight and one centimetre in maternal height, there is a respectively significant 40.0% (OR: 0.6; 95%CI: 0.4, 0.9), 80.0% (OR: 0.2; 95%CI: 0.1, 0.7) and 11.0% (OR: 0.89; 95%CI: 0.82, 0.98) increase in the risk of become stunted among children.

    CONCLUSION: Feeding problems specifically inadequate food amount, food variety and meal frequency not following the recommendation contribute to stunting in young children. Other factors identified are lower maternal height and children with lower birth weight and delivery week. This highlights the need for more excellent detection and intervention of nutritional concerns and risk factors to prevent stunting.

    Background: Highlighting the individual, host-vector interactions, and environmental risk factors for knowlesi malaria were consequential toward more focused and effective prevention and control strategies. This study aims to identify the individual, host-vector interactions, and environmental risk factors for Plasmodium knowlesi malaria among at-risk communities in Peninsular Malaysia. Materials and Methods: A case-control study was conducted involving laboratory-confirmed cases of P. knowlesi malaria, while a locality-matched individual with no history of fever and tested negative for malaria was taken as control. Univariate and multiple logistic regression were applied to evaluate the potential risk factors among respondents using IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, Version 26.0. Results: Results showed higher cases among males as compared to females (76.1% vs. 23.9%). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed being male is 3.51 higher risk (p < 0.001) to become a case. Respondents whose place of work or study is near the forest edge have 44.0% lower risk (p = 0.030), while those living in the Orang Asli village were 56.0% lower risk as compared to the organized village to become a case (p = 0.035). Conclusion: These findings demonstrated that gender emerges as an independent individual risk factor while residing near a forest edge, in an Orang Asli village, or occupying workers' longhouses situated in hilly areas lowered the environmental risk among respondents. These findings attested that alternative directions must be considered in addressing the known risk factors associated with this type of malaria and the design of prevention and control programs should be tailored to the unique characteristics of each population.
