A 31-year-old male with no known medical illness presented with painless left eye protrusion for the past 2 years. Radiographic features were of an extraconal superior orbital mass with no invasion of adjacent structures. The patient underwent an excisional biopsy of the left superior extraconal mass a week later. The histopathological examination revealed a well-circumscribed lobulated mass with chondroid and myxoid stroma enveloping benign bland-appearing epithelial and myoepithelial cells. These pathological features were consistent with benign chondroid syringoma of the orbit. The patient had an uneventful recovery with no active ocular complaint post-operatively.Despite chondroid syringoma of the orbit being a rare tumour, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of periorbital masses. Excision of the tumour remains the treatment of choice with histopathological examination as the gold standard of diagnosis. Regular follow-up is warranted in view of possible local recurrence or metastasis.

BACKGROUND: Single leg squat (SLS) is an important motion commonly observed in sports. Excessive dynamic knee valgus (DKV) during SLS may increase non-contact knee injury risks particularly in physically active females. As muscular strength plays crucial role in controlling DKV, the present study aims to evaluate the correlation between hip strength and knee frontal plane angle during SLS among females with and without excessive DKV.

METHODS: Thirty-four volunteers were allocated to the valgus (n = 17) and non-valgus (n = 17) groups. Their motions during SLS at 45° and 60° knee flexion were captured and analyzed using three-dimensional motion analysis system. Isokinetic hip strength was examined at 180°/s in flexion, extension, abduction, and adduction for both legs. Pearson's correlation test was computed to evaluate the relationship between hip strength and knee angle during SLS.

FINDINGS: Non-dominant hip extensor strength (r = -0.56, p = 0.02) and dominant hip adductor strength (r = -0.51, p = 0.04) were significantly related to the knee frontal plane angle during 45° SLS among those without DKV. Meanwhile, those with DKV showed a significant relationship between the knee frontal plane angle for both legs and non-dominant hip abductor strength during 60° SLS.

INTERPRETATION: Both groups demonstrated the relationship of hip strength on knee frontal plane angle during SLS, whereby increased hip strength may minimize excessive DKV. Those with excessive DKV should train to strengthen their hip abductor to reduce knee valgus particularly during deep squats.

Background: There is a lack of information on the practice of family planning among Muslim women in New York City in the United States of America (USA) [hereinafter known as “Muslim women residing in the United States” (MWRIU)], Tehran in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The limited figures on this issue are either outdated or mere estimates. The importance of sexual and reproductive health of Muslim women is expected to have massive effects on the social and economic progress of developing countries like the IRI and Malaysia. It is also expected to have imperative impacts on the attempts to empower the MWRIU community and enhance their health status to meet the national standards.
Objective: The study objective is to explore and compare the practice of family planning, namely on contraceptive use and abortion among Muslim women in 3 major cities of different countries.
Methodology: A survey of 379, 377 and 380 respondents from New York City, Tehran and Kuala Lumpur respectively was conducted in 2013 using self-administered questionnaires.
Results: There were significant differences in contraceptive and abortion practices across these countries (P<0.01). While a significant 86.6% of Iranian and 66.2% of the MWRIU used contraception, only 22.9% of the Malaysian women did so. For abortion, 13.6% of the MWRIU and 6.3% of the Malaysian respondents had abortion at least once; while only 22% of Iranians revealed their abortion history, totaling 32.1% of them who had abortion. Financial problems and having an unsupportive husband were among the major factors hindering their practice of healthy family planning.
Conclusion: Educational campaigns should be promoted to increase the awareness on the permissibility of family planning in Islam, as well as on sexual and reproductive rights.

Orbital emphysema commonly resolves with no morbidity. However, sight-threatening complications, such as central retinal artery occlusion and ischemic optic neuropathy, may occur, which can result in poor visual outcomes. Plain skull X-ray, which is widely available, is a useful tool in identifying orbital emphysema. We report a case of a 29-year-old gentleman with underlying allergic rhinitis who presented with a painless, progressively increasing periorbital swelling of the right eye, which was aggravated by nose blowing. He had a history of blunt trauma one day prior to the presentation. Visual acuity was unaffected and optic nerve function tests were unremarkable. There was right upper lid swelling with crepitations, right hypoglobus with restricted upward gaze movement, and right conjunctival injection. Intraocular pressure was within normal limits. The posterior segment examination was unremarkable. A plain skull radiograph revealed a "black eyebrow sign" over the right orbit with no obvious orbital wall fracture. Computed tomography of the orbit showed focal indentation over the right lamina papyracea with superior orbito-palpebral emphysema. Systemic antibiotics, steroid nasal spray, and oral antihistamines were initiated with the prohibition of nose blowing. On post-trauma day five, he made an uneventful recovery. High clinical suspicion and thorough clinical examination with the aid of a plain skull radiograph can diagnose orbital emphysema in order for prompt referral to be undertaken to prevent morbidity. Clinicians should consider orbital emphysema as a differential diagnosis for periorbital swelling, especially if there was a preceding trauma.
