A unilateral true ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint of traumatic origin and of 23 years duration is reported. Its pathogenesis and treatment are discussed.
This is a case report of a recurrent lesion diagnosed histologically as a unicystic ameloblastoma. The concomitant presence of a traumatic neuroma was observed within the wall of the recurrent lesion. The mode of development of the traumatic neuroma, and the reason for the recurrence were presented.
An unusual case of fibrous epulis in a newborn is presented. The clinical appearance, histological features and method of treatment are described. A short review of the literature is also included.
Features of the typical ameloblastoma of the mandible are outlined. Three cases managed by conservative surgical treatment maintaining the continuity of the mandible are described. The factors taken into consideration when instituting this method of treatment are discussed. Results obtained are encouraging.
In a preliminary screen, Aaptos aaptos showed significant cytotoxic activity towards a panel of cell lines and was thus subjected to bioassay-guided isolation of the bioactive constituents. In addition to the known aaptamine, two new derivatives of the alkaloid were isolated from the bioactive chloroform fraction of the crude methanolic extract. Detailed analysis by NMR and mass spectroscopy enabled their identification to be 3-(phenethylamino)demethyl(oxy)aaptamine and 3-(isopentylamino)demethyl(oxy) aaptamine. The cytotoxic activities of the three alkaloids were further evaluated against CEM-SS cells.
