There is a profit if a journal managed to get indexed in a well-recognized database. The encouraging of being an indexed journal might cause an unethical management approaches in some unprofessional journals. This commentary discusses some of the unethical activities which may be done before submission for indexing.

Biology of Termites: A Modern Synthesis (Bignell DE, Roisin Y, Lo N, (Editors), Springer, Dordrecht, 576pp, ISBN 978-90-481-3976-7, e-ISBN 978-90-481-3977-4, DOI 10.1007/978-90-481-3977-4) was published in 2011. With the agreement of the publishers, we give a taxonomic index of the book comprising 494 termite entries, 103 entries of other multicellular animal species mentioned as associates or predators of termites, with 9 fungal, 60 protist, and 64 prokaryote identities, which are listed as termite symbionts (sensu stricto). In addition, we add descriptive authorities for living (and some fossil) termite genera and species. Higher taxonomic groupings for termites are indicated by 25 code numbers. Microorganisms (prokaryotes, protists, and fungi) are listed separately, using broad modern taxonomic affiliations from the contemporary literature of bacteriology, protozoology, and mycology.

Several researchers have investigated the consequences of using ChatGPT in the education industry. Their findings raised doubts regarding the probable effects that ChatGPT may have on the academia. As such, the present study aimed to assess the ability of three methods, namely: (1) academicians (senior and young), (2) three AI detectors (GPT-2 output detector, Writefull GPT detector, and GPTZero) and (3) one plagiarism detector, to differentiate between human- and ChatGPT-written abstracts. A total of 160 abstracts were assessed by those three methods. Two senior and two young academicians used a newly developed rubric to assess the type and quality of 80 human-written and 80 ChatGPT-written abstracts. The results were statistically analysed using crosstabulation and chi-square analysis. Bivariate correlation and accuracy of the methods were assessed. The findings demonstrated that all the three methods made a different variety of incorrect assumptions. The level of the academician experience may play a role in the detection ability with senior academician 1 demonstrating superior accuracy. GPTZero AI and similarity detectors were very good at accurately identifying the abstracts origin. In terms of abstract type, every variable positively correlated, except in the case of similarity detectors (p

PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the presence of spin in abstracts of systematic reviews and meta-analyses comparing biceps tenodesis and tenotomy outcomes and to explore associations between spin and specific study characteristics.

METHODS: Using Web of Science and PubMed databases, systematic reviews and meta-analyses comparing outcomes of biceps tenodesis and tenotomy were identified. Abstracts were evaluated for the nine most severe types of spin as described by Yavchitz et al. and appraised using the AMSTAR 2 (A MeaSurement Tool to Assess systematic Reviews). Study characteristics were extracted, including adherence to PRISMA guidelines, funding status, and impact metrics such as journal impact factor, total number of citations, and average annual citations.

RESULTS: A total of 16 studies were included, with spin detected in 81.3% of the abstracts. Type three spin was the most frequent (56.3%), followed by types six (43.8%), five (37.5%), nine (25.0%), two (12.5%), and four (6.3%). Spin types one, seven, and eight were not observed. AMSTAR 2 appraised 75% of the studies as 'low' quality, and 25% as 'critically low' quality. All studies had at least one critical flaw, with item 15 (investigation of publication bias) being the most frequent (93.8%). A strong positive correlation was found between AMSTAR 2 scores and citation counts (r = 0.821, p

A bibliographic database is an organised digital collection of references to published literature. A bibliographic database may be general in scope or may cover a specific academic discipline. There are many types of medical and general bibliographic databases. They cover biomedical and scientific literature, morbidity and mortality statistics, therapeutic regimens, medical records, images and reviews of evidence-based medicine. Getting to know these databases will help researchers and authors to enhance their writing and publishing endeavours.

This communication analyzed research publications in dentistry in the Institute of Scientific Information Web of Science databases of 10 dental faculties in the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) from 2000 to 2009. The term used for the "all-document types" search was "Faculty of Dentistry/College of Dentistry." Abstracts presented at regional meetings were also included in the analysis. The Times Higher Education System QS World University Rankings showed that universities in the region fare poorly in world university rankings. Only the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University appeared in the top 100 in 2009; 19 universities in the region, including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, appeared in the top 500. Data from the databases showed that research publications by dental institutes in the region fall short of their Asian counterparts. Singapore and Thailand are the most active in dental research of the ASEAN countries.
