    OBJECTIVES: To explore the nurses' expectations and experience about pharmacists in private sector hospitals of Karachi, Pakistan.

    METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from June to September 2012 in five private sector hospitals of Karachi, Pakistan. A convenient sample of nurses (n=377) were enrolled in this study. Data was obtained through a previously validated questionnaire. Responses were statistically analyzed using SPSSv.17.

    RESULTS: Questionnaires were returned giving a response rate of 63.6% of which 20 were unusable (n=240). Out of the remaining 220, 24.1% (n=53) responded that they never or rarely interacted with a pharmacist. Respondents who expect pharmacists to collaborate with nurses to solve drug related problems were 45% (n=99). Nurses' experience of pharmacists was not substantial as only 44.5% (n=98) respondents consider pharmacists as a reliable source of clinical drug information.

    CONCLUSION: The role of pharmacists is not well appreciated among nurses in Pakistan. Hence, pharmacists must bridge the observed gap and use a more strategic and consistent approach to build a more positive image in line with other healthcare professionals and in providing patient-centred pharmaceutical care. This research would impress upon the pharmacists the need to redefine their role in the healthcare settings.

    Primary adrenal lymphomas (PAL) are rare occurrences with only less than 150 cases reported in the literature. Two-thirds of these cases were reported in the last decade due to the advancements in imaging techniques and immunohistochemistry. The non-specific signs and symptoms have resulted in a delayed onset of symptoms and diagnosis of these tumors. Reports of the results of chemotherapy are not gratifying, and most patients die within one year of the diagnosis. We report a 65-year-old male with adrenal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), who presented with hypercalcemia and renal failure. We reviewed all adrenal NHL cases presented with hypercalcemia and attempted to comprehend its etiology and overall survival effect.

    This study employs a comprehensive approach combining protein retrieval, sequence alignment, and molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the structural dynamics and stability of wild-type KRas and its mutated variants (G12C, G12D, G12V, and G13D). The selected protein structures were retrieved from the Protein Data Bank (PDB) and prepared by using visual molecular dynamics (VMD) software. Sequence alignment using Clustal Omega provided a detailed comparison of the amino acid sequences, focusing on key mutation sites. Molecular dynamics simulations, performed with Gromacs, revealed distinct conformational changes and stability patterns in the wild-type and mutated KRas proteins over 100 ns. Clustering analysis identified higher conformational changes in the second α-helix of the mutated variants. The root-mean-square deviation (RMSD) distribution analysis showed variant-specific conformational dynamics, with G12V and G12D exhibiting slightly higher average RMSD values. Furthermore, clustering and RMSD analyses of specific amino acid residues (12, 13, 51, and 118) highlighted their roles in maintaining overall stability and influencing structural dynamics. The results indicate that mutations at positions 12 and 13 disrupt normal cycling between wild and mutated variants, leading to the persistent activation of KRas. Additionally, principal component analysis (PCA) elucidated unique conformational dynamics in mutated variants. Free energy landscape (FEL) analysis revealed alterations in the thermodynamic stability of mutated variants compared with the wild type. Overall, this study provides a detailed understanding of the structural changes associated with oncogenic mutations in KRas, offering insights crucial for targeted therapeutic strategies in KRas-driven cancers.

    Consumers' demand is increasing for safe foods without impairing the phytochemical and sensory quality. In turn, it has increased research interest in the exploration of innovative food processing technologies. Cold plasma technology is getting popularity now days owing to its high efficacy in decontamination of microbes in fruit and fruit-based products. As a on-thermal approach, plasma processing maintains the quality of fruits and minimizes the thermal effects on nutritional properties. Cold plasma is also exploited for inactivating enzymes and degrading pesticides as both are directly related with quality loss and presently are most important concerns in fresh produce industry. The present review covers the influence of cold plasma technology on reducing microbial risks and enhancing the quality attributes in fruits.

    BACKGROUND: The development of breast cancer (BC) and how it responds to treatment have both been linked to the involvement of inflammation. Chronic inflammation is critical in carcinogenesis, leading to elevated DNA damage, impaired DNA repair machinery, cell growth, apoptosis, angiogenesis, and invasion. Studies have found several targets that selectively modulate inflammation in cancer, limit BC's growth, and boost treatment effectiveness. Drug resistance and the absence of efficient therapeutics for metastatic and triple-negative BC contribute to the poor outlook of BC patients.

    SUMMARY: To treat BC, small-molecule inhibitors, phytomedicines, and nanoparticles are conjugated to attenuate BC signaling pathways. Due to their numerous target mechanisms and strong safety records, phytomedicines and nanomedicines have received much attention in studies examining their prospects as anti-BC agents by such unfulfilled demands.

    KEY MESSAGES: The processes involved in the affiliation across the progression of tumors and the spread of inflammation are highlighted in this review. Furthermore, we included many drugs now undergoing clinical trials that target cancer-mediated inflammatory pathways, cutting-edge nanotechnology-derived delivery systems, and a variety of phytomedicines that presently address BC.
