    In this present work, we report the deposition of cadmium selenide (CdSe) particles on titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotube thin films, using the chemical bath deposition (CBD) method at low deposition temperatures ranging from 20 to 60 °C. The deposition temperature had an influence on the overall CdSe-TiO2 nanotube thin film morphologies, chemical composition, phase transition, and optical properties, which, in turn, influenced the photoelectrochemical performance of the samples that were investigated. All samples showed the presence of CdSe particles in the TiO2 nanotube thin film lattice structures with the cubic phase CdSe compound. The amount of CdSe loading on the TiO2 nanotube thin films were increased and tended to form agglomerates as a function of deposition temperature. Interestingly, a significant enhancement in photocurrent density was observed for the CdSe-TiO2 nanotube thin films deposited at 20 °C with a photocurrent density of 1.70 mA cm-2, which was 17% higher than the bare TiO2 nanotube thin films. This sample showed a clear surface morphology without any clogged nanotubes, leading to better ion diffusion, and, thus, an enhanced photocurrent density. Despite having the least CdSe loading on the TiO2 nanotube thin films, the CdSe-TiO2 nanotube thin films deposited at 20 °C showed the highest photocurrent density, which confirmed that a small amount of CdSe is enough to enhance the photoelectrochemical performance of the sample.

    BACKGROUND: Haemoptysis is an uncommon presenting symptom in children and is usually caused by acute lower respiratory tract infection or foreign body aspiration. We report a rare case of right unilateral pulmonary vein atresia (PVA) as the underlying aetiology of recurrent haemoptysis in a child.

    CASE PRESENTATION: A 4 years old girl presented with history of recurrent haemoptysis. Bronchoscopic evaluation excluded a foreign body aspiration but revealed right bronchial mucosal hyperaemia and varices. Diagnosis of right unilateral PVA was suspected on transthoracic echocardiography which demonstrated hypoplastic right pulmonary artery and non-visualization of right pulmonary veins. Final diagnosis was confirmed on cardiac CT angiography. A conservative treatment approach was opted with consideration for pneumonectomy in future when she is older.

    CONCLUSION: Rarer causes should be considered when investigating for recurrent haemoptysis in children. Bronchoscopy and cardiac imaging are useful tools to establish the diagnosis of unilateral PVA in our case.

    There are limited data on pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission despite its high mortality rate. The objectives of our study were to determine the prevalence of culture-confirmed PTB requiring ICU admission and the trend in prevalence before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on all patients aged ≥18 years with culture-confirmed PTB requiring ICU admission in a Malaysian tertiary academic medical center from 2015 to 2021. The linear-by-linear association test was performed to determine if the trend in prevalence was significant. The overall prevalence of culture-confirmed PTB requiring ICU admission was 8.0% (139/1736). Between 2015 and 2021, the prevalence increased by 5.8% from 1.6% (5/312) to 7.4% (16/215) (P < .001). This study demonstrated an overall low but increasing trend in the prevalence of culture-confirmed PTB requiring ICU admission. Disruption in TB services during the COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted the prevalence trend.
