    Nowadays, development of cable-stayed bridges is increasing around the world. The mitigation of seismic forces to these bridges are obligatory to prevent damages or failure of its structural members. Herein, this paper aimed to determine the near-fault ground motion effect on an existing cablestayed bridge equipped with lead-rubber bearing. In this context, Shipshaw cable-stayed bridge is selected as the case study. The selected bridge has a span of 183.2 m composite deck and 43 m height of steel tower. 2D finite element models of the non-isolated and base isolated bridges are modelled by using SAP2000. Three different near-fault ground motions which are Tabas 1978, Cape Mendocino 1992 and Kobe 1995 were subjected to the 2D FEM models in order to determine the seismic behaviour of the bridge. The near-fault ground motions were applied to the bridge in the longitudinal direction. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed to determine the dynamic responses of the bridge. Comparison of dynamic response of nonisolated and base isolated bridge under three different near-fault ground motions were conducted. The results obtained from numerical analyses of the bridge showed that the isolation system lengthened the period of bridge and minimised deck displacement, base shear and base moment of the bridge. It is concluded that the isolation system significantly reduced the destructive effects of near-fault ground motions on the bridge.

    The application of concrete filled steel tubes(CFSTs) as composite members has widely been used around the world and is becoming popular day by day for structural application especially in earthquake regions. This paper indicates that an experimental study was conducted to comprehend the behaviour of T-stub end plates connected to concrete filled thin-walled steel tube (CFTST) with different types of bolts and are subjected to pullout load. The bolts used are normal type bolt M20 grade 8.8 and Lindapter Hollo-bolt HB16 and HB20. A series of 10 mm thick T-stub end plates were fastened to 2 mm CFTST of 200 mm x 200 mm in cross-section. All of the specimens were subjected to monotonic pull-out load until failure. Based on testresults, the Lidapter Hollo-boltsshowed better performance compare to normal bolts. The highest ultimate limit load for T-stub end plate fasten with Lindapter Hollo-bolt is four times higher than with normal bolt although all end plates show similar behaviour and failure mode patterns. It can be concluded that T-stub end plate with Lindapter Hollo-bolt shows a better performance in the service limit and ultimate limit states according to the regulations in the design codes.

    This research is about the natural product of coriander, or the Coriandrum species. The bioactive molecules and the health effects of this plant are constantly discussed. This paper is parallel with those publications, investigating the composition of the herb. The results of current study indicates that the Coriandrum seed is a source of fatty acids. From the publications, petroselinic acid or (6Z)-octadecenoic acid, is the major fatty acid in the coriander extracts. Previous articles reported on coriander’s chemical constituents, biological activities of the coriander’s seeds and leaves, as well as the coriander products in the retail. Indeed, coriander has a lot of uses either as a traditional medicines or spices. Different forms of coriander samples were subjected to a simple maceration by using chloroform. From the chromatographic purification of the seed crude extract, its component could include anisaldehyde, as one of the aromatic aldehyde. It is concluded that the lipid-containing fraction of the coriander seed could also consist of dipetroselin, a diglyceride.

    Malaria parasites, Plasmodium can infect a wide range of hosts including humans and rodents. There are two copies of mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) in Plasmodium, namely MAPK1 and MAPK2. The MAPKs have been studied extensively in the human Plasmodium, P. falciparum. However, the MAPKs from other Plasmodium species have not been characterized and it is therefore the premise of presented study to characterize the MAPKs from other Plasmodium species-P. vivax, P knowlesi, P berghei, P chabaudi and P.yoelli using a series of publicly available bioinformatic tools. In silico data indicates that all Plasmodium MAPKs are nuclear-localized and contain both a nuclear localization signal (NLS) and a Leucine-rich nuclear export signal (NES). The activation motifs of TDY and TSH were found to be fully conserved in Plasmodium MAPK1 and MAPK2, respectively. The detailed manual inspection of a multiple sequence alignment (MSA) construct revealed a total of 17 amino acid stack patterns comprising of different amino acids present in MAPK1 and MAPK2 respectively, with respect to rodent and human Plasmodia. It is proposed that these amino acid stack patterns may be useful in explaining the disparity between rodent and human Plasmodium MAPKs.

    This paper provides a review on the effect of solar radiation to the different building materials properties.
    Solar radiation; watt per meter square [W/m2
    ] is one of the cause for thermal gain in building envelopes.
    Buildings envelopes comprises of various materials. Different materials have different rate of heat
    absorption depends on their emissivity and other parameters. The three materials studied in this paper
    are concrete, timber and composites materials. According to the radiation heat equation, heat rate are
    affected by the surface area of exposed envelope (A) measure in meter (m), emissivity of the building
    exposed surface (ε) and the temperature difference between envelope exposed surface (Ts) and
    temperature of equivalent atmosphere (Tsky) measure in 0C. Based on the parameters, research
    methodology were adopted either by software simulation or test field experimental. Solar radiation
    affects the materials in various ways, depends on parameters considered, location of testing and type of
    materials.

    Materials that can enhance the sensitivity and selectivity of a biosensor are greatly in demand. The nanocomposition of thionine (Th) and graphene can increase the electroconductivity of the working electrode used. Graphene is a very good electrical conductor but is also hydrophobic in nature. Composition with thionine gives it the capability to disperse well in water. Plus, thionine provides the opportunity for DNA probes to be immobilized due to the presence of the amino group in its structure. In this research, the thionine-graphene (Th-G) nanocomposite was synthesized through filtration and characterised using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to distinguish different elements coexist in the nanocomposite and to investigate the microstructure changes of the nanocomposite to confirm the composition. Different elements were analyzed to test the presence of both thionine and graphene in the composition. Physical characterisation through SEM proved the nanocomposition was a success.

    In recent years, the utility grid system is more essential for the power
    transmission and distribution system because it cannot produce harmful
    gases or no discharge waste in the environment. PWM based phase
    synchronous invert systems are generally utilised in the high efficiency
    energy supply, long distance and higher power quality. The inverter output
    voltage depends on the coupling transformer, input sources and invert
    controllers. An inverter using a three leg IGBT has been designed for utility
    grid and simulated by using MATLAB2014a. In this paper, both sides of
    the LCL filters are used for removing the DC ripple current, reducing the
    noise and synchronous the output phase between inverter and the utility
    grid. The PWM controller has created pulse signal to control the inverter,
    electronic switches and precisely synchronise with grid line frequency. In
    this system, the input DC voltage 500V, switching frequency 1.65 kHz, grid
    frequency 50Hz, 20 km feeder (resistance, inductance and capacitance per
    unit length, which are 0.1153, 1.05e-3 and 11.33e-09 ohms/km) with 30MW
    three phase load (active and inductive reactive power which are 30e6 W
    and 2e6 var) and also a balanced utility grid load of star configuration (00,
    1200, and 2400 degree) are considered in the design. On the other hand,
    three phase transformer consists of three signal phase transformers, normal
    power 100e3, magnetization resistance and inductance which are 500 pu and
    416.67pu are considered in this design. The system conversion efficiency
    is 99.94% and 99.96%, while the total THD are 0.06% on inverter side
    and 0.04% on grid side.

    Vitex trifolia or locally known as lemuni, is well documented for its medicinal properties including
    anticancer, antibacterial and wound healing. For years, the leaves and flowers were consumed for antiaging
    and general well-being. It is also commonly served as nutraceuticals to post-partum women during
    their confinement period. Previous study showed that V. trifolia possesses high antioxidant properties that
    could prevent oxidative stress related diseases such as cancer, atherosclerosis, diabetes and many more.
    From the literature, V. trifolia leaves are used as poultice for rheumatic pains, sprains, antithelmintics and
    inflammations. Meanwhile, the fruits are utilised in amenorrhea. The roots, on the other hand, are used for
    the treatment of cough and fever. The plant is known to possess pharmacologically-active constituents such
    as the essential oil, halimane-type diterpenes, flavonoids, triterpenes, lignans, iridoids and ecdysteroids.
    Review papers were consistently published to justify the non-exhaustive biological exploration of this genus.
    Nevertheless, only 11 per cent of the total Vitex species were phytochemically examined. Apart from being
    eaten raw or blanched, Vitex is also taken as a food colourant in preparing lemuni rice. The process of
    making lemuni rice is quite tedious. First, the leaves and flowers are picked and washed. Both parts are then
    ground with water and sieved to give a bluish extract which is then mixed with rice and boiled to cook.
    Hence, the Vitex pouch is introduced to provide an easy way to prepare lemuni rice. This packaging is
    designed to enclose Vitex samples in a pouch that simply can be placed together with rice and boiled to
    cook. Such instant preparation will hopefully promote the consumption of lemuni rice among busy locals.
    Future plans include international marketing and production of other Vitex nutritional products.

    The performance and operational characteristics of a laboratory scale modified anaerobic hybrid baffled (MAHB) reactor were studied using recycled paper mill effluent (RPME) wastewater. MAHB reactor was continuously operated at 35°C for 90 days with organic loading rate (OLR) increased from 0.14 to 0.57 g/L/dy. This present study demonstrated that the system was proficient in treating low strength RPME wastewater. Highest carbon oxygen demand (COD) removal were recorded up to 97% for an organic loading of 0.57 g /L/dy while effluent alkalinity assured that the system pH in the MAHB compartments were of great advantages to acidogens and methanogens respectively. Methane and biogas production rate shows increment as the load increases, which evidently indicated that the most significant approach to enhance gas production rates involves the increment of incoming substrate moderately. Variations of biogas and volatile fatty acid (VFA) in different compartments of MAHB reactor indicated the chronological degradation of substrate. The compartmental structure of MAHB reactor provided its strong ability to resist shock loads. From this present study, it shows the potential usage of MAHB reactor broadens the usage of multi-phase anaerobic technology for industrial wastewater treatment.

    Occupational health is considered as a crucial element in almost every Small
    and Medium Industries (SMIs) and it is believed to be one of vital challenges
    that can influence productivity and competitiveness. It has been known that
    the metal stamping industry involved a lot of materials handling tasks such as
    carrying stamped parts from machine to packaging section, transferring moulds
    from tools store to machines, sorting the finished products and others.
    Appropriate materials handling equipments are not often provided in SMIs
    because of the limitation of capital and lack of ergonomics awareness. The
    workers have to handle the materials and goods manually. These practices
    may lead to occupational injuries particularly back pain and musculoskeletal
    injuries. The objectives of the research are to assess and analyze the muscles
    activity of workers in metal stamping industry. Three male workers who
    performed metal stamping process using manual technique were participated
    in the research. Ergonomic assessment associated with Surface
    Electromyography (SEMG) was used to capture and interpret the data related
    to muscles activity at before and after the ergonomic intervention. For the
    purpose of muscle activity assessment, SEMG electrodes were attached to eight
    critical muscles: deltoid muscle-medial part (left), deltoid muscle-medial part

    The coordination complexes of Co(II) and Zn(II) with Schiff bases derived from ophenylenediamine and substituted 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde were prepared. All compounds were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy elemental analyzers. They were analyzed using impedance spectroscopy in the frequency range of 100Hz - 1MHz. L1 and L2 showed higher conductivity compared to their metal
    complexes, which had values of 1.37 x 10-7 and 6.13 x 10-8S/cm respectively.

    Two Schiff bases, 3-(4-hydroxyphenylimino)-1,3-dihydroindol-2-one (OPI) and 3-(4-Chlorophenylimino)-1,3-dihydroindol-2-one
    (CPI) were successfully synthesized through condensation
    reactions giving yields of 82% and 63%, respectively. The compounds were characterized via
    physical and spectroscopic techniques, namely elemental analysis (C, H, N), 1H and 13C Nuclear
    Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and
    melting point. The corrosion inhibiting property of the Schiff bases on mild steel in 1 M HCl solution
    was investigated by the weight loss (WL) measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy
    (EIS) and linear polarization resistance (LPR). The concentrations of the Schiff bases were varied
    from 1 x 10-3 M to 1 x 10-5 M. The inhibition efficiencies obtained from all the methods employed were
    in good agreement where the percentage of inhibition efficiencies increased with concentration. OPI
    showed better inhibition efficiency than CPI with 91 % highest inhibition efficiency at 1 x 10-3 M
    additive concentration. This is likely to be caused by the resonance donating effect due to the
    presence of the hydroxyl group. The adsorption behaviour obeyed Langmuir isotherm for monolayer
    formation.

    The massive growth of construction industry especially in the developing countries results in extensive quarrying activities which ultimately would lead to the depletion of natural resources. Apart from extensive extraction of the natural granite from the earth for concrete production, marble production industry is also majorly contributing to the quarrying activities. In addition, high volume of waste is generated by the marble production industry as 70% of marble is wasted during the production such as quarrying, cutting, processing and others which is environmental unfriendly. In a way to achieve sustainable construction, the present study is to utilise the waste marble in replacing the coarse aggregate in concrete production. The engineering performance including workability, compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) and chloride penetration were analysed. The raw waste marble obtained from the industry were crushed and sieved into maximum size 20 mm and used to replace the coarse aggregate at the level of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% respectively. Results show that 60% of the replacement level has yield to optimum result by achieving the highest compressive strength and UPV at approximate 5% higher than the control. Meanwhile, the effect on chloride penetration resistance is more significant, i.e. approximate 19% better than the control. However, increasing the replacement level of waste marble has no significant effect on workability, although an increasing trend was observed.

    The genus Macaranga comes from the family of Euphorbiaceae and it is the only genus in the subtribe Macaranginae that have a large genus with 300 species of which 27 species were found in Peninsular Malaysia. This plant grows as shrubs or trees that can grow up to 15 m tall and known for their mutual associations with ants. Fresh or dried leaves of some Macaranga species were used by traditional healers to treat swellings, cuts, sores, boils and bruises. The isolation of chemical constituent from this genus has been shown to produce numerous results of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids and stilbenoids. In this paper, we report the isolation of a prenylated flavonol, glyasperin A (1), together with a simple flavone apigenin (2) from the methanolic extract of the leaves of Macaranga gigantea. The structure of both compounds has been elucidated based on its spectroscopic data, including mass spectroscopy (MS), infrared (IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and comparison with the previous literature.

    Elaeis oleifera serves as a source of genetic foundation in oil palm improvement programme, as it possess several interesting agronomic traits such as slow growth, higher oil unsaturation and disease resistance. Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has developed a collection of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) from Elaeis oleifera genome (E. oleifera-gSSRs). A total of 21 polymoprhic SSR markers were evaluated in the attempt to assess the population structure of E. oleifera populations. The appropriate common ancestry (K) value was determined to be seven from the likelihood scores. The profile from STRUCTURE analysis indicates considerable sharing of genetic components among E. oleifera population with an exception for Population 01 from Columbia and Population 02 from Costa Rica. The present study provides information on population structure of MPOB E. oleifera collection via model-based method for germplasm conservation and utilisation in breeding programmes.

    In this study, the rice husk flour-plastic waste composites (RPC) was produced from polypropylene (PP) and high density polyethylene (HDPE) wastes with 30 and 50% rice husk flour (RHF) contents. RPC was made by melt compounding and compression moulding processes. The electrical resistivity, thermal stability and tensile strength of RPC were determined. The RPC was tested in electrical resistivity and tensile strength according to the ASTM D-257 and ASTM D-638 respectively, while thermal stability was tested using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) method. From the results, high content of RHF reduces all properties, except for tensile modulus of elasticity (TMOE) in tensile strength test. The ability of moisture absorption and the presence of hemicelluloses, cellulose and silica in RHF reduce the electrical resistivity and thermal stability behaviour of RPC from 50% RHF. The good binding elements and filler agglomeration in RPC from 50% RHF improve only TMOE. Insufficient stress transfer and rigid interphase occurred between RHF and plastics during tensile maximum load and elongation at break (Eb) in tensile strength test. In general, RPC from HDPE indicates better thermal stability, tensile modulus of rupture and Eb (in tensile strength test) compared to PP, based on the good behaviour of thermal conductivity, low water absorption, high molecular weight and good elongation properties of HDPE. However, RPC from PP shows good electrical resistance due to the low thermal expansion coefficient of PP.

    β-mangostin were synthesised and characterised. The structure of the
    ligand, β-mangostin was confirmed using NMR and the purity of ligand
    was determined using HPLC. Both Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes were
    prepared by reaction between the ligand and the acetate of the metals in
    one-step reaction. The synthesised compounds have been characterised
    using UV-Visible, FTIR and CHNS analyser. Ligand and metal complexes
    were tested against bacteria to assess on their antimicrobial properties using
    Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) and Minimum Bactericidal
    Concentrations (MBCs) method. The elemental analysis and spectra data
    suggested octahedral geometry for both Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes. The
    IR spectroscopy revealed that the chelation of Cu2+ and Fe2+ ion occurred
    with hydroxyl and carbonyl group at C9
    and C1 respectively of β-mangostin.
    Both Cu(II) and Fe(II) complexes showed stronger inhibition against
    Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Klebsiella pneumoniae and
    Salmonella pneumonia at concentration 900 mg/mL and Escherichia coli
    at 450 mg/mL compared to the ligand itself

    Polymers and organic materials that are exposed to sunlight undergo photooxidation, which leads to deterioration of their physical properties. To allow adequate performance under outdoor conditions, synthetic polymers require additives such as antioxidants and UV absorbers. A major problem with optimising polymer formulations to maximise their working life span is that accelerated weathering tests are empirical. The conditions differ significantly from real weathering situations, and samples require lengthy irradiation period. Degradation may not be apparent in the early stages of exposure, although this is when products such as hydroperoxides are formed which later cause acceleration of oxidation. A simple way of quantifying the number of free radicals presents in organic materials following exposure to light or heat is by measuring chemiluminescence (CL) emission. Most polymers emit CL when they undergo oxidative degradation, and it originates from the bimolecular reaction of macroperoxy radicals which creates an excited carbonyl.

    This study focused on the identification of pathogenic bacteria in raw water intake and after sand filtration for drinking water treatment plant during flood event in 2014. The samples was collected from the Lubok Buntar Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and processed through bacterial isolation using chocolate agar as a media. The isolation process conducted based on serial samples dilution and streaking method prior to DNA extraction. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) extraction kit was used to get selected bacteria DNA and further analysis using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test and electrophoresis to get DNA sequences. The Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) analysis was employed to identify the species of the isolated bacteria. As a result, Pantoeaagglomerans and Enterobacter sp. were found in raw and filtered water sample and indicating the same family types. It was concluded that bacteria of the same species were found before and after sand filtration and need to be removed by disinfectant process. The findings also indicated that all the physicochemical parameters measured were within the values prescribed by the Interim National Water Quality Standard (INWQS).

    Content management is an organisational effort of managing content, particularly in digital format. Although it has been over 25 years since content management was introduced, this field of study is still considered an emerging topic with unresolved issues-in particular, the subject of benefit achievement. Therefore, grounded on an extensive review of 135 articles, the purpose of this study is to investigate the benefits that organisations can gain through the proper use of an Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS). Subsequently, this paper identifies a list of ECMS benefits and proposes an ECMS benefit framework for further exploration into this field. Our result shows that although ECMS does bring benefits to organisations, these benefits are diverse; indicating that there are certain determinants or factors influencing the achievement of such benefits. Moreover, it is also found that in the context of the benefit framework of Shang and Seddon [10], three categories were found relevant to the field of content management: operational benefit, managerial benefit, and strategic benefit.
