    In legal system, the admissibility of bite mark injury has proven to give more positive impact when current tech-nologies are adapted to its analysis. The early exposure of the digitalized bite mark analysis during the under-graduate dental program is beneficial to stimulate interests and provide guidance among the professional den-tists. The step-by-step bite mark analysis partly adapted from KU Leuven, Belgium is emphasized by delivering the illustrated practical techniques using computer software Adobe Photoshop®. The overlays analysis demon-strated its practicality as easy to use and offered opportunities to learn through unconventional mode of teach-ing. The incorporation of bite mark injury analysis to the undergraduate dental learning is highly recommended

    ABSTRACT
    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of varying scanning parameters of DPT and LC
    on diagnostic performance and quality of the images. Materials and Methods: Clinical evaluations of image
    quality were performed using an adult human skull with permanent dentition. Dental panoramic tomogram (DPT)
    and lateral cephalogram (LC) images were obtained using two different radiographic machines Instrumentarium
    300OP taken at Sungai Buloh (SB) and Sirona Orthophos 3D taken at Puncak Perdana (PP) by varying tube
    voltages. Two orthodontic residents assessed images based on overall quality using a five-point rating scale
    and diagnostic performance by detection of anatomical landmarks. The correlations between radiation doses
    and diagnostic value of the images were analyzed using Pearson’s Correlation Test. Univariate analysis was
    calculated for the evaluation for image quality. Intra-class Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was used to test for
    intra-rater and inter-rater reliability. Results: Both modalities taken at both centers showed negative correlation
    between dosage and detection of anatomical landmarks except for LC SB. All images were rated at least with
    median of 3= more than adequately presented regardless of the radiation dosage except for DPT PP (median
    5= inadequately presented). Conclusion: Lower dosage parameters should be used when taking DPT and LC
    as images appeared darker, lower in quality and less anatomical landmarks can be detected at higher scanning
    parameter.

    Introduction: Identification of remains recovered at advanced stages of decomposition can be problematic due to the lack of physical evidence. Nonetheless, human dentition is least susceptible to decomposition and as such carry a significant value in personal identification of decomposed remains. Demirjian’s method of age estimation was developed specifically for children with developing dentition. In this article, a method on adapting the Demirjian’s method for Malay ethnic-specific age estimation using the third molar development is presented. Methods: Orthop- antomograms of Malay subjects aged 18 to 25 were obtained from UiTM Sungai Buloh. Total of 318 samples were taken, comprising of 123 and 195 images from male and female subjects. Development of right and left mandibular third molar was classified according to the eight stages of development as illustrated in Demirjian’s method. Data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis such as descriptive statistics and analysis of variance. The intra- and inter-gender variation between left and right mandibular third molar was evaluated using independent student t-test and analysis of variance, respectively. Results: Intra-gender comparison analysis revealed a significant difference in the female and male with a p-value of 0.000 and 0.003, respectively. Regression equation to estimate age based on third molar development were formulated according to dental age and maturity score. Conclusion: The Demirjian’s method was successfully adapted for age estimation of individuals of Malay ethnicity. These findings can help with victim identification in cases of poor skeletal framework recovery and highly decomposed remains.

    The aims of this study are to estimate the equivalent dose to the skin, eyes and thyroid in intra- and extra-oral imaging examination and to compare the dose-area product (DAP) derived from the calculation method with Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRL) that has been provided by the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH). Dose equivalent is measured by placing Thermoluminescence Dosimeter (TLD-100H) in the anthropomorphic RANDO phantom. Exposure is performed using intra-oral X-ray machine ActeonSatelec X-Mind® and extra-oral X-ray machine InstrumentariumOP300®, and the value is compared to the equivalent dose of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) dose limit. DAP value for both examinations was obtained by using formula and comparing them with the DRL from MOH. The average dose equivalent of intra- and extra-oral radiographic examination is lower than the ICRP dose limit. The doses derived from both examinations did not exceed the prescribed levels when compared with DRL. The doses calculated for intra-oral examination of molar maxillary, molar mandibular and interproximal (bitewing) was 0.880 mGy while periapical examination of the anterior maxillary and mandibular was 0.688 mGy and occlusal examination was 1.100 mGy. For the panoramic examination the dose was 0.011 mGy.m2 while lateral cephalometric examination was 0.0054 mGy.m2. The doses obtained from this study were within the dose limit and predetermined level. This shows that a patient receives the minimum dose for both dental radiographic examinations with the optimum level of safety which meets the ALARA concept.
