Undernourishment is a big challenge for humanity across the world. Considering the significance of reducing undernourishment, the current study focuses on exploring the macroeconomic determinants of undernourishment in the South Asian panel. The study employed econometric models that are more robust to underpin cross-sectional dependency and heterogeneity in a panel data set. The overall findings reveal that an increase in food production increases undernourishment and infer that food availability at the national level is insufficient to reduce undernourishment unless poor people also had economic and physical access to food. In the case of economic growth and governance, the results are negatively significant in some countries. The results infer that GDP and quality of governance are nuanced in declining the rate of undernourishment in some countries, while in other countries where the results are found insignificant, the government should seek other interventions to curtail the prevalence of undernourishment. Unexpectedly, an increase in food prices lessens the undernourishment in developing countries that reflect that food prices might transform the dietary patterns of poor people from nutrient-rich foods to nutrient-poor staples, thus lead to undernourishment reduction but trigger overweight and obesity alongside. In conclusion, the results depict that policymakers should devise strategies keeping in view fundamental aspects of the country to reduce undernourishment.

Classic Formulas (Jing fang) are considered the essence and authority of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) due to their long history and proven efficacy. These formulas play a pivotal role in all kinds of different disease prevention and therapeutic strategies. Yiyi Fuzi Baijiang San (YYFZBJS), one of the Classic Formulas, was originally developed for the treatment of chronic intestinal abscess. With the accumulation of clinical experience and the exploration of modern pharmacological research in recent years, YYFZBJS has been extensively employed to address a broad spectrum of conditions such as colorectal cancer. Although numerous studies have explored the clinical efficacy and underlying mechanisms of YYFZBJS, no comprehensive review summarizing these findings exists to date. This study aims to systematically review and critically assess the current clinical and mechanistic research on YYFZBJS, with the objective of providing valuable insights and guidance for TCM research in the future.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) frequently co-occurs with alexithymia, empathy-related difficulties, anxiety, and depression, but their conditional associations remain unclear in male inpatients with AUD.

METHODS: We analyzed data from 385 male inpatients with AUD treated at a psychiatric specialty hospital in China. Alexithymia, empathy, anxiety, and depression were assessed with the Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20), the Chinese Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI-C), the 14-item Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), and the 24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24), respectively. We estimated a Gaussian graphical model and examined one-step expected influence (EI), one-step bridge expected influence (BEI), and bootstrap-based accuracy and stability.

RESULTS: Difficulty identifying feelings (DIF) had the highest EI and exceeded empathic concern (EC), HAMD-24, and psychic anxiety (PSY) in bootstrap comparisons. Under the primary community assignment, HAMD-24, DIF, and PSY had relatively large BEI point estimates, with no bootstrap-supported pairwise differences among them. Externally oriented thinking (EOT) was negatively associated with perspective taking (PT), whereas personal distress (PD) was positively associated with PSY. For somatic anxiety (SOM), the retained between-community edges with PT and fantasy (FS) were weaker than the within-community edges with PSY and HAMD-24. Correlation stability coefficients for strength, EI, and BEI ranged from 0.595 to 0.673.

CONCLUSIONS: Conditional associations among alexithymia, empathy, anxiety, and depression varied across nodes in male inpatients with AUD. Under the primary community assignment, HAMD-24, DIF, and PSY had relatively large BEI point estimates, with no bootstrap-supported pairwise differences among them.

Human movement into insect vector and wildlife reservoir habitats determines zoonotic disease risks; however, few data are available to quantify the impact of land use on pathogen transmission. Here, we utilise GPS tracking devices and novel applications of ecological methods to develop fine-scale models of human space use relative to land cover to assess exposure to the zoonotic malaria Plasmodium knowlesi in Malaysian Borneo. Combining data with spatially explicit models of mosquito biting rates, we demonstrate the role of individual heterogeneities in local space use in disease exposure. At a community level, our data indicate that areas close to both secondary forest and houses have the highest probability of human P. knowlesi exposure, providing quantitative evidence for the importance of ecotones. Despite higher biting rates in forests, incorporating human movement and space use into exposure estimates illustrates the importance of intensified interactions between pathogens, insect vectors and people around habitat edges.
