Bismuth oxide nanoparticles (Bi2O3 NPs) have gained a spot in the development of novel molecular
probes for in vivo biomedical imaging. It exists in six polymorphic forms and each of them exerts with
different stabilities according to its synthetisation temperature. The aim of this preliminary study is to
determine effect of different synthetiation temperatures on cellular viability in vitro. One hundred µg/ml
Bi2O3 NPs synthesised at 60, 90 and 120°C were characterised using scanning electron microscope (SEM)
and their cytotoxicity was evaluated using cell viability assay (MTT assay) upon 24 hours exposure to
Chang liver cells. Images captured by SEM showed an average diameter of 300 nm monoclinic-shaped
with high crystalline formation of all three Bi2O3 NPs. MTT assay revealed increase in liver cell viability
as the synthetisation temperature of Bi2O3 NPs increase. The outcomes suggested that synthetisation
temperature of Bi2O3 NPs plays a role in cellular viability, hence predictive to the biocompatibility of
these nanoparticles to be applied as in vivo radiographic contrast medium.

Six varieties of Ficus deltoidea Jack (Moraceae) showed leaf morphological variations through quantitative measurement on different plant parts. There were significant differences among six varieties studied by plant parts. The varieties studied include var. deltoidea Corner, var. angustifolia (Miq.) Corner, var. trengganuensis Corner, var. bilobata Corner, var. intermedia Corner, and var. kunstleri (King) Corner. The upper, middle and lower plant parts showed morphological variations in terms of leaf length, leaf width, leaf area and petiole length. Qualitative parameters also showed trends in morphological variations in terms of leaf shape, leaf base, leaf apex and leaf attachment. However, some qualitative parameters were not the recommended parameters to differentiate among varieties. On the other hand, leaf heterophylly has occurred in F. deltoidea because foliage of the young plant was different from the mature plant. Leaf heterophylly was observed in leaf shape and leaf apex parameters, whereby leaves from the lower plant parts were different from the upper and middle parts. The heterophylly in leaf shape was detected in varieties angustifolia, bilobata, intermedia and trengganuensis, whilst six varieties of F. deltoidea showed leaf apex heterophylly

An intensified esterification process was operated by circulating 10 l of reaction mixtures, consisting of palm oil fatty acid distillate (PFAD) and glycerol in hexane, through a packed-bed reactor (PBR) filled with 10 kg of delipidated rice bran lipase (RBL). The influence of the process parameters, such as reaction temperature and type of water-removal agent, on the performance of this intensified esterification process were investigated. The highest degree of esterification (61%) was achieved at a reaction temperature of 65 masculineC, using silica gels as the water-removal agent. Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) analysis showed that the major composition of the esterified product was diacylglycerol.
