    Hybrid methodologies have become popular in many fields of research as they allow researchers to explore various methods, understand their strengths and weaknesses and combine them into new frameworks. Thus, the combination of different methods into a hybrid methodology allows to overcome the shortcomings of each singular method. This paper presents the methodology for two hybrid methods that can be used for time series forecasting. The first combines singular spectrum analysis with linear recurrent formula (SSA-LRF) and neural networks (NN), while the second combines the SSA-LRF and weighted fuzzy time series (WFTS). Some of the highlights of these proposed methodologies are:•The two hybrid methods proposed here are applicable to load data series and other time series data.•The two hybrid methods handle the deterministic and the nonlinear stochastic pattern in the data.•The two hybrid methods show a significant improvement to the single methods used separately and to other hybrid methods.

    Human ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase-2 (USP2) inhibitors, such as thiopurine analogs, have been reported to inhibit SARS-CoV papain-like proteases (PLpro). The PLpro have significant functional implications in the innate immune response during SARS-CoV-2 infection and considered an important antiviral target. Both proteases share strikingly similar USP fold with right-handed thumb-palm-fingers structural scaffold and conserved catalytic triad Cys-His-Asp/Asn. In this urgency situation of COVID-19 outbreak, there is a lack of in-vitro facilities readily available to test SARS-CoV-2 inhibitors in whole-cell assays. Therefore, we adopted an alternate route to identify potential USP2 inhibitor through integrated in-silico efforts. After an extensive virtual screening protocol, the best compounds were selected and tested. The compound Z93 showed significant IC50 value against Jurkat (9.67 μM) and MOTL-4 cells (11.8 μM). The binding mode of Z93 was extensively analyzed through molecular docking, followed by MD simulations, and molecular interactions were compared with SARS-CoV-2. The relative binding poses of Z93 fitted well in the binding site of both proteases and showed consensus π-π stacking and H-bond interactions with histidine and aspartate/asparagine residues of the catalytic triad. These results led us to speculate that compound Z93 might be the first potential chemical lead against SARS-CoV-2 PLpro, which warrants in-vitro evaluations.

    The difficulty in differentiating the sex of monomorphic bird species has made molecular sexing an important tool in addressing this problem. This method uses noninvasively collected materials such as feathers and may be advantageous for sexing endangered as well as commercialized bird species. In this study, seven primer sets for sexing birds were screened in Aerodramus fuciphagus using a total of 13 feather samples that were randomly selected from the state of Perak, Malaysia. From the screening analysis, only one primer set (P8/WZ/W) successfully differentiated the sex of A. fuciphagus. PCR amplification produced a single 255-bp DNA fragment for males which was derived from CHD-Z (CHD gene region in the sex chromosome Z), while for the females it produced two fragments (144 and 255 bp). The 144-bp fragment was from CHD-W (CHD gene region in the sex chromosome W). Results from sequencing showed no variations in the base sequences of the CHD-W and CHD-Z amplified fragments within the same sexes, except for one male sample (A23) where at position 166, a base substitution occurred (G → A). Phylogenetic analysis of CHD-W showed that four (Apodiformes; Gruiformes; Passeriformes; and Pelecaniformes) out of the five orders investigated had formed four clear clusters within their orders, including the studied order: Apodiformes. Whereas in CHD-Z, four (Accipitriformes; Columbiformes; Galliformes; and Passeriformes) out of five orders investigated formed four clear clusters within their orders, excluding the studied order. In addition, A. fuciphagus and Apus apus (both Apodiformes) showed less divergence in CHD-W than CHD-Z (0% c.f. 9%). The result suggests that in A. fuciphagus, CHD gene evolution occurred at a higher rate in males (CHD-Z) compared to females (CHD-W). This finding may be useful for further studies on sex ratio and breeding management of A. fuciphagus.

    Urease, a nickel-dependent enzyme found in various life forms, catalyzes urea breakdown, concluding nitrogen metabolism by generating ammonia and carbamate. This process causes a rise in pH, supports the survival of pathogens, and can lead to infections such as gastric disorders like ulcers and cancer in humans. Helicobacter pylori employs urease for survival in the acidic environment of the stomach and in protein synthesis. To treat such infections and inhibit the growth of pathogens, it is mandatory to obstruct urease activity; therefore, derivatives of 1-(3-nitropyridin-2-yl)piperazine were synthesized (5a-o; 7a-k). All these newly synthesized compounds were investigated for urease inhibition by in vitro inhibition assays. The results showed that 5b and 7e are the most active inhibitors, having IC50 values of 2.0 ± 0.73 and 2.24 ± 1.63 µM, respectively. These IC50 values are lower than the IC50 value of the standard thiourea, which was 23.2 ± 11.0 µM. The hemolysis potential of 5b, 5c, 5i, 7e, and 7h was also determined; 7e and 7h exhibited good biocompatibility in human blood cells. Through in silico analysis, it was shown that both these potent inhibitors develop favorable interactions with the active site of urease, having binding energies of -8.0 (5b) and -8.1 (7e) kcal/mol. The binding energy of thiourea was -2.8 kcal/mol. Moreover, 5b and 7e have high gastrointestinal permeability as predicted via computational analysis. On the other hand, the IC50 value and binding energy of precursor compound 3 was 3.90 ± 1.91 µM and -6.1 kcal/mol, respectively. Consequently, 5b and 7e can serve as important inhibitors of urease.

    Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has placed the entire world, including Malaysia in a state of fear. The rising burden on healthcare facilities has put healthcare workers consistently at risk of healthcare-associated infection. We sought to identify determinants of preventive practice against COVID-19 at work among primary healthcare professionals in Sabah, Malaysia.

    Method: This was a cross-sectional study involving healthcare workers of the Penampang and Putatan districts of Sabah, Malaysia. A total of 167 health professionals from primary healthcare settings took part in this study via a self-administered questionnaire from November 2020 until January 2021. Independent t-test and Analysis of Variance were used to determine differences in preventive practice for categorical independent variables. Pearson product-moment correlation was applied to assess the relationship between Job Satisfaction, burnout, and preventive practice. Subsequently, predictors of preventive practice at work among healthcare workers in Sabah were identified through Binomial Logistic Regression.

    Results: The prevalence of good preventive practice among health professionals at work was 71.3%. There was no difference in preventive practice between professions. Almost all participants reported having good personal protective equipment compliance and hand hygiene practice at work. Marital status (AOR = 4.170, 95% CI = 1.787, 9.733; p = 0.001), average sleep hours (AOR = 1.775, 95% CI = 1.144, 2.754; p = 0.01), and pandemic-related burnout (AOR = 0.905, 95% CI = 0.847, 0.967; p = 0.003) were identified as significant predictors of preventive practice at primary healthcare facilities.

    Conclusions: The outcome of this study is beneficial to the healthcare organization. It can serve as a useful guide to tackle issues related to poor preventive practice against COVID-19 at work for health professionals.

    Laboratory diagnosis of toxocariasis is still a challenge especially in developing endemic countries with polyparasitism. In this study, three Toxocara canis recombinant antigens, rTES-26, rTES-30, and rTES-120, were expressed and used to prepare lateral flow immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) dipsticks. The concordance of the results of the rapid test (comprising three dipsticks) with a commercial IgG-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) (Cypress Diagnostics, Belgium) was compared against the concordance of two other commercial IgG-ELISA kits (Bordier, Switzerland and NovaTec, Germany) with the Cypress kit. Using Toxocara-positive samples, the concordance of the dipstick dotted with rTES-26, rTES-30, and rTES-120 was 41.4% (12/29), 51.7% (15/29), and 72.4% (21/29), respectively. When positivity with any dipstick was considered as an overall positive rapid test result, the concordance with the Cypress kit was 93% (27/29). Meanwhile, when compared with the results of the Cypress kit, the concordance of IgG-ELISA from NovaTec and Bordier was 100% (29/29) and 89.7% (26/29), respectively. Specific IgG4 has been recognized as a marker of active infection for several helminthic diseases; therefore, the two non-concordant results of the rapid test when compared with the NovaTec IgG-ELISA kit may be from samples of people with non-active infection. All the three dipsticks showed 100% (50/50) concordance with the Cypress kit when tested with serum from individuals who were healthy and with other infections. In conclusion, the lateral flow rapid test is potentially a good, fast, and easy test for toxocariasis. Next, further validation studies and development of a test with the three antigens in one dipstick will be performed.

    BACKGROUND: This study aims to compare the changes in ophthalmic parameters among syndromic craniosynostosis patients who underwent craniofacial skeletal expansion procedures via distraction osteogenesis (DO).

    METHOD: A retrospective study was conducted involving syndromic craniosynostosis patients who underwent surgical expansion via the DO technique from the year 2012 to March 2022. Changes in six parameters which consist of visual acuity, refractive error, optic disc health, intraocular pressure, degree of proptosis and orbital volume were measured objectively pre and post-surgery. For categorical parameters, the Chi-square cross-tab test was done. Paired sample T-test was used for normally distributed variables. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for non-normally distributed data.

    RESULTS: Visual impairment was present in 21.4% of eyes before surgery and increased to 28.5% post-surgery. Three patients had changes of refractive error post-surgery with one developed hypermetropia, another developed anisometropia and the last had improvement to no refractive error. Two patients had optic disc swelling which was resolved post-surgery. Intraocular pressure changes were inconsistent post-surgery. All patients achieved a significant reduction in the degree of proptosis post-surgery. Orbital volume calculation using computed tomography (CT) scans shows a significant increase in volume post-surgery for all patients.

    CONCLUSION: Our study shows a significant increase in orbital volume post-surgery with a reduction in the degree of proptosis. Optic disc and nerve health improved after the surgery. Changes in terms of visual acuity, refractive error and IOP were inconsistent after the surgical intervention.

    Almost 60% of oil and 40% of gas reserves worldwide are contained in carbonate reservoirs where acidizing stimulation is more challenging compared to sandstone reservoirs. Utilization of emulsified acids in matrix acidizing operations has been the most effective technique for more than half a century. This is due to the colloidal system's ability to generate deep, narrow conduits toward production zones under controlled retarded reactivity with the rock surface, along with the excellent sweep efficiency and corrosion inhibition of the well equipment. This Review attempts to review the various kinds of emulsified acids that are used for matrix acidizing of carbonate formations. The Review is trying to trace the innovations that have, gradually, been applied for enhancing the performance of emulsified acids for a variety of conditions, their limitations, and the developmental solutions such hybrid emulsifiers and pickering emulsions. In addition, the Review also discusses the parameters, characteristics, and measuring techniques required for the successful synthesis of a stable and quality emulsion while considering the environmental concerns raised toward the application of an emulsified acid system. From the reviewed publications, it can be summarized that macroemulsions are best suited for matrix acidizing applications over microemulsions due to low emulsifier concentrations and high acid volume retention; similarly, water in oil emulsions provide better retardation in a comparison to oil in water emulsions. The small droplet size of the emulsion yields high viscosity and stability. The compositional balance between each component present in the acidizing system is a crucial factor for optimum performance. Moreover, for future practice, much focus is required to design emulsified acids as ecofriendly systems that can leave the least amount of toxicity during and after implementation.

    Background It is important to correctly determine the ideal female breast anatomy and aesthetic proportions in order to prepare for surgery and establish its goals. Leaving the preference to the operating surgeons alone might leave unsatisfactory results, which especially leads to reoperation, quite often in the aspect of breast dimension. Methods This study was conducted using an online graphic questionnaire. We attempted to seek male and female perspectives toward their preferred ideal female breast size for breast augmentation, in order to provide up-to-date data to assist breast surgeons in attaining satisfactory surgical results. Results Sixty males and 67 females participated in the study comprising Asian major ethnicities of Malay, Chinese, and Indian. Universally, 46.6% of men and 53.5% of women preferred 30 mm diameter for the most ideal nipple-areola complex (NAC) size. For the perfect bust, they generally favored size C and D cup (37.8% and 38.5%, respectively). Conclusion The majority of women seek natural breast beauty and the longing for an oversized look appears to have infiltrated practice but these assumptions have finally been challenged by these findings.

    BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Invasive fungal infections caused by Cyberlindnera fabianii (Cy. fabianii) have recently increased despite the low virulence potential of this yeast. However, limited information about the widely-used commercial biochemical identification systems has led to an underestimation of Cy. fabianii infections in clinical settings.

    CASE REPORT: This study reports a case of prosthetic joint infection in a patient who had a previous history of total knee replacement surgery. Cy. fabianii was recovered from intraoperative culture specimens identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and confirmed using molecular assays. It was, however, initially misidentified as Candida utilis by phenotypic identification.

    CONCLUSION: Due to the emergence of uncommon yeast species, it is important to accurately identify and perform antifungal susceptibility testing on uncommon yeast isolates for appropriate management.

    Sub-Saharan African nations face multifaceted environmental problems, especially those associated with carbon discharges. Hence, this study calculates a composite carbon index in the context of 39 developing nations from this region and uses it as a proxy for the carbon emission-related environmental problems they have faced during the 2000-2020 period. This index is estimated by utilizing data regarding annual carbon dioxide discharges, output-based carbon productivity rates, and energy consumption-based carbon intensity levels in the concerned countries. Hence, policy takeaways from this study have critical relevance for the selected sub-Saharan African nations to help them achieve the objectives related to the Sustainable Development Goals agenda and the Paris Accord. Overall, the findings from the econometric analyses verify that more receipt of foreign direct investment initially raises but later on reduces environmental problems. Thus, the nexus concerning these variables depicts an inverse U-shape. Besides, the results endorse that greening the energy consumption structures of the sampled sub-Saharan African countries helps to abate their environmental problems in the long run while financial development aggravates the extent of environmental adversities that take place. Lastly, improving the quality of regulatory agencies enables the Sub-Saharan African nations to further mitigate their environmental problems. Moreover, these aforementioned findings are observed to be heterogeneous across low- and middle-income categories of the selected Sub-Saharan African countries. Furthermore, the heterogeneity of the findings is also confirmed by the outcomes derived from the country-specific analyses. Nevertheless, these nations should attract clean energy-embodying foreign direct investment, make their energy consumption structures greener by amplifying renewable energy adoption rates, introduce green funds to develop their financial sectors, and make their environmental regulatory agencies more transparent with their activities.

    AIM: To report the outcome of Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) with Supramid© ripcord use in neovascular glaucoma (NVG).

    METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated the surgical outcome of the BGI with Supramid© 3/0 ripcord stent in patients with NVG. No tube ligation or venting slits were performed. Supramid was removed after 3mo if the target intraocular pressure (IOP) was not achieved. Surgical success was defined as IOP≤21 mm Hg with (qualified success) or without IOP-lowering medications (complete success).

    RESULTS: Twenty-six eyes from 24 patients were included in the study. The median duration of follow-up was 4 [interquartile range (IQR)=1-5]y, ranging from 0.5 to 5y. IOP decreased by a mean of 24.2 mm Hg (59.7%); from a mean of 40.5±12.6 mm Hg at baseline to 16.3±11.9 mm Hg, P≤0.001. The number of glaucoma medications reduced from a median of 5 (IQR=5-6) to 1 (IQR=0-2, P≤0.001) at the final follow-up. Overall success rates were 88.0% at 1y, 34.8% at 3y, 66.7% at 4y, and 50% at 5y. Hypertensive phase (HP) in the first 3mo occurred in 15/26 eyes (57.7%) with a mean IOP of 31.1 mm Hg.

    CONCLUSION: BGI with Supramid© ripcord stent gives close to 90% of the overall survival rate at the final follow-up without significant early hypotony. However, early HP is still a challenge.

    The diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) technique is known for its capability to differentiate the diffusion of water molecules between cancerous and non-cancerous cervix tissues, which enhances the accuracy of detection. Despite the potential of DWI-MRI, its accuracy is limited by technical factors influencing in vivo data acquisition, thus impacting the quantification of radiomics features. This study aimed to measure the radiomics stability of manual and semi-automated segmentation on contrast limited adaptive histogram equalization (CLAHE)-enhanced DWI-MRI cervical images. Eighty diffusion-weighted MRI images were obtained from patients diagnosed with cervical cancer, and an active contour model was used to analyze the data. Radiomics analysis was conducted to extract the first statistical order, shape, and textural features with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) measurement. The results of the CLAHE segmentation approach showed a marked improvement when compared to the manual and semi-automated segmentation methods, with an ICC value of 0.990 ± 0.005 (p<0.05), compared to 0.864 ± 0.033 (p<0.05) and 0.554 ± 0.185 (p>0.05), respectively. The CLAHE segmentation displayed a higher level of robustness than the manual groups in terms of the features present in both categories. Thus, CLAHE segmentation is owing to its potential to generate radiomics features that are more durable and consistent.

    The governments have been facing the challenges to develop tailored strategies to decrease COVID vaccine hesitancy (CVH) and refusal and increase the acceptability and uptake to ensure the protection of public health. In Pakistan, it has been a great challenge for the government to increase the acceptability of the COVID vaccine. CVH has been a great hurdle to achieving this objective. The authors found it imperative to identify and evaluate the factors of CVH in Pakistan. For this purpose, the authors used an integrated multicriteria decision analysis method (MCDM) by combining Delphi and DEMATEL methods. The factors of CVH have been identified and finalized using the Delphi method. The experts' opinions were obtained to evaluate the factors. The DEMATEL method was used to find out the most critical factor(s) of CVH. Moreover, the cause/effect relationship was also developed to have a better understating of factors and their relationships. The analysis revealed "ineffective public awareness strategies" as the most critical factor of CVH followed by "misinformation and disinformation, conspiracy theories", and "acquired knowledge". The study also examined the cause-and-effect relationship between the prioritized factors. The government in Pakistan introduced successful efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the government could do more to increase vaccine acceptance. For this purpose to serve effective scientific and evidence-based public awareness strategies are needed to increase the acquired knowledge and deal with misinformation, disinformation, and conspiracy theories to increase vaccine acceptance. The government could sue the media, especially social media to increase vaccination. The findings of the study provide a detailed understanding of the CVH in Pakistan and develop a comprehensive public health strategy to deal with any health-related potential issues in the future.

    Implementation of industrial wastes such as bottom ash in ground improvement can be cost-effective and environment-friendly. Ground improvement is an effective method of mitigation to improve problematic soils including soft kaolin clay soils as the problematic soils always expose to the severe settlements, low shear strength, immoderate plasticity, greater compressibility, dispersivity, bulging, erodibility, and susceptibility to climatic variables. Several studies conducted on the granular column using the bottom ash column. However, only a few studies have reported findings coherent with the statistical analysis. In this study, the lateral load capacity of bottom ash column-kaolin clay has been conducted. Coherently, the reinforced kaolin clay samples were tested via particle size distribution, Atterberg limit test, relative density, compaction test, permeability test, unconfined compression test, and unconsolidated undrained triaxial test with the single and group of encapsulated bottom ash columns with the geotextile encasement and a prediction model was developed. The effect of a number of columns, column diameter, column height, area replacement ratio, height penetration ratio, height-diameter column ratio, volume replacement ratio, and confining pressures on the shear strength of the single and group of encapsulated bottom ash columns have been investigated. The findings showed the effectiveness of using the bottom ash columns at various number of column, column diameter, column height, area replacement ratio, height penetration ratio, height-diameter column ratio, volume replacement ratio, and confining pressures can enhance the shear strength of the soil up to 77.00% at the optimal utilization of single encapsulated bottom ash column of 10-mm diameter and 80-mm height. Therefore, the study proved that the utilization of bottom ash waste as a granular column can significantly enhance the lateral load capacity of soft kaolin clay soil.

    A physiological-based emotion recognition system (ERS) with a unimodal approach such as an electrocardiogram (ECG) is not as popular compared to a multimodal approach. However, a single modality has the advantage of lower development and computational cost. Therefore, this study focuses on a unimodal ECG-based ERS. The ECG-based ERS has the potential to become the next mass-adopted consumer application due to the wide availability of wearable and mobile ECG devices in the market. Currently, ECG-inclusive affective datasets are limited, and many of the existing datasets have small sample sizes. Hence, ECG-based ERS studies are stunted by the lack of quality data. A novel multi-filtering augmentation technique is proposed here to increase the sample size of the ECG data. This technique augments the ECG signals by cleaning the data in different ways. Three small ECG datasets labelled according to emotion state are used in this study. The benefit of the proposed augmentation techniques is measured using the classification accuracy of five machine learning algorithms; k-nearest neighbours (KNN), support vector machine, decision tree, random forest and multilayer perceptron. The results show that with the proposed technique, there is a significant improvement in performance for all the datasets and classifiers. KNN classifier improved the most with the augmented data and the reported classification accuracies of over 90%.

    Effects of controlled-temperature fermentation on several physico-chemical properties, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) counts and aroma of durian pulp were examined by storing fresh durian pulp was mixed with 2 % (w/w) salt and stored at 15 °C, 27 °C and 40 °C for 10 days. Storage at 15 °C did not affect the properties of the pulp much. However, at 27 °C and 40 °C, pH and total soluble solids decreased up to 60 % and 52 %, respectively, with greater losses at 27 °C. Titratable acidity, which increased at 27 °C, was due to lactic and acetic acids formation. Loss of sucrose and increases in glucose were greater at 27 °C. LAB population increased up to Day 3 of storage, and then decreased slightly. Principal component analysis based on aroma examination using a zNose(TM) showed better retention of aroma profile at 27 °C. Overall, durian fermented at 27 °C was more acceptable than the one prepared at 40 °C, and it is ready to be consumed between Day 4 and 6.

    BACKGROUND: Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is currently a member of Lythraceae family which has potentially cytotoxic activities. Numerous studies have been done on cytotoxic components of pomegranate's juices, barks and leaves. The peels, which considered as a waste, contain higher antioxidant components compared with other parts of the plant.

    AIM: To investigate the potential anti-cancer activity of pomegranate peel on growth and cell death mechanisms of chronic myeloid leukemic (CML) cells, K562.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: Punica granatum peels extract (PGPE) was extracted by successive ethanol extraction, 80% (v/v), freeze dried, diluted to 20 mg/mL working concentration and was subjected to phytochemical screening. K562 cell was treated with crude PGPE for 72 h. Following IC50 concentration, the apoptosis, cell cycle and protein analysis were evaluated. Cell growth inhibition assay was performed by conventional trypan blue exclusion assay. Apoptosis and cell cycle were analyzed by flow-cytometry using BD apoptosis and cell cycle kits and protein analysis by western blotting. All the results are expressed as mean ± standard error of mean of three independent experiments. Statistical analysis was performed by nonparametric Mann-Whitney U-test.

    RESULTS: Results demonstrated that PGPE promotes growth inhibition of K562 cells mainly via G2/M phase arrest while still conserving apoptosis induction, but at a lower rate. Apoptosis activities were proposed by the up-regulation of caspases and cytochrome c with an elevated level of p21 and p53.

    CONCLUSION: PGPE caused an inhibition in cell proliferation of CML cell mainly by cell cycle arrest.

    Momordica charantia (MC) is popular for its medicinal uses especially for treating diabetic-related complications. However, the antiulcer activity of essential oil derived from the seeds has not been systematically studied. This study aims to evaluate the gastroprotective activities of essential oil derived from the seed of MC induced by hydrochloride acid/ethanol (HCl/EtOH) and indomethacin and pylorus-ligation model. Gastric ulceration was induced by oral administration of HCl/EtOH solution or indomethacin on day 7 after animals have been pretreated with testing compounds. The first group received just distilled water and the second group received ranitidine (100 mg/kg). Groups 3, 4, and 5 received 10, 50, and 100 mg/kg of essential oil based on their body weight (10 mL/kg), respectively. Macroscopically, pretreatment of essential oil extracted from MC significantly decreased ulceration induced by HCl/EtOH and indomethacin in vivo. Microscopically, essential oil also significantly suppressed the formation of edema, epithelial disruption, and mucosa erosions. Moreover, essential oil significantly elevated the pH without decreasing the total acidity of the gastric juice and was able to increase the amount of adherent mucus compared to control. Current results provide scientific basis to the ethno-pharmacological usage of the MC in preventing ulcer formation induced by HCl/EtOH and indomethacin.

    Protein hydrolysates produced from different food sources exhibit therapeutic potential and can be used in the management of chronic diseases. This study was targeted to optimise the conditions for the hydrolysis of stone fish protein to produce antioxidant hydrolysates using central composite design (CCD) by response surface methodology (RSM). The stone fish protein was hydrolysed under the optimum predicted conditions defined by pH (6.5), temperature (54°C), E/S ratio (1.5%), and hydrolysis time (360 min). The hydrolysates were then evaluated for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH•) scavenging activity and ferrous ion- (Fe2+-) chelating activity. Results validation showed no significant difference between the experimental values of DPPH• scavenging activity (48.94%) and Fe2+-chelating activity (25.12%) obtained at 54.62% degree of hydrolysis (DH) compared to their corresponding predicted values of 49.79% and 24.08% at 53.08% DH, respectively. The hydrolysates demonstrated non-Newtonian behavior (n < 1) with stronger shear-thinning effect and higher viscosities at increasing concentration. Thus, RSM can be considered as a promising strategy to optimise the production of stone fish protein hydrolysates containing antioxidant peptides. It is hoped that this finding will enhance the potential of stone fish protein hydrolysates (SHs) as therapeutic bioactive ingredient in functional foods development.
