    BACKGROUND: Acute gallstone disease is the highest volume Emergency General Surgical presentation in the UK. Recent data indicate wide variations in the quality of care provided across the country, with national guidance for care delivery not implemented in most UK hospitals. Against this backdrop, the Royal College of Surgeons of England set up a 13-hospital quality improvement collaborative (Chole-QuIC) to support clinical teams to reduce time to surgery for patients with acute gallstone disease requiring emergency cholecystectomy.

    METHODS: Prospective, mixed-methods process evaluation to answer the following: (1) how was the collaborative delivered by the faculty and received, understood and enacted by the participants; (2) what influenced teams' ability to improve care for patients requiring emergency cholecystectomy? We collected and analysed a range of data including field notes, ethnographic observations of meetings, and project documentation. Analysis was based on the framework approach, informed by Normalisation Process Theory, and involved the creation of comparative case studies based on hospital performance during the project.

    RESULTS: Chole-QuIC was delivered as planned and was well received and understood by participants. Four hospitals were identified as highly successful, based upon a substantial increase in the number of patients having surgery in line with national guidance. Conversely, four hospitals were identified as challenged, achieving no significant improvement. The comparative analysis indicate that six inter-related influences appeared most associated with improvement: (1) achieving clarity of purpose amongst site leads and key stakeholders; (2) capacity to lead and effective project support; (3) ideas to action; (4) learning from own and others' experience; (5) creating additional capacity to do emergency cholecystectomies; and (6) coordinating/managing the patient pathway.

    CONCLUSION: Collaborative-based quality improvement is a viable strategy for emergency surgery but success requires the deployment of effective clinical strategies in conjunction with improvement strategies. In particular, achieving clarity of purpose about proposed changes amongst key stakeholders was a vital precursor to improvement, enabling the creation of additional surgical capacity and new pathways to be implemented effectively. Protected time, testing ideas, and the ability to learn quickly from data and experience were associated with greater impact within this cohort.

    Background: Occupational Safety and Health Master Plan for Malaysia 2015 was intended to increase awareness, knowledge and commitment to Occupational Safety and Health in all undertaking to reduce the number of injuries, diseases and fatalities. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Occupational Safety Health Master Plan for Malaysia 2015 (OSH-MP 15) in enhancing government leadership and preventive workplace culture. Methods: This cross sectional study covered all the states in Malaysia, constituting of 309 employers, 350 Occupational Safety Health practitioners and 360 employees as respondents. There were three questionnaires for three different groups which were employers, Occupational Safety Health practitioners and general employees. The respondents were selected through random sampling.     This concept paper discusses instructional leadership of administrator, school effectiveness and
    organizational culture in inner rural of Sarawak. Instructional leadership is the most reliable in
    education field. Leadership could directly impact the performance of the organization. In the context
    of this study, the organization is a Government-owned school. Thus the effectiveness of a school are
    influenced leadership practiced by administrators and civilization rooted in the school. Instructional
    leadership is given a priority in development plan Education 2013-2025 in five shifts to accommodate
    high-impact leaders in school. Education also did not miss in National Transformation 2020-2050 that
    is access to high quality education. Instructional leadership refers to the practice of administrator in
    giving guidance to teachers and students to improve and enhance the performance of the self and the
    school as a whole, whether in the areas of curriculum and co-curriculum. This performance will lead to school effectiveness from two major areas of the successfulness of students aspiration. However, there
    are other factors that play a role in performance improvements, that is the influence of organization
    culture formed under the leadership of the administrator.

    With a leader being able to possess different types of leadership styles, there is a lack of literature investigating which leadership style best facilitates supervisory coaching behavior. The current study aimed to investigate which leadership style would exhibit supervisory coaching behavior, and if supervisory coaching behavior would mediate the relationship between leadership styles and job performance. The study compared the effects of three leadership styles-transformational, transactional, and empowering leadership-on supervisory coaching behavior, which has been reported to influence job performance. A multilevel approach was adopted in this study using 500 employees from 65 organizations within Malaysia. The study found that only empowering and transactional leadership styles exhibited supervisory coaching behavior, which in turn mediated their relationships with job performance. Overall, the findings suggest the importance of leadership styles that prioritize employee development, as these would lead to improved job performance in employees.

    This study aims at comparing operational codes (namely, philosophical and instrumental beliefs about the political universe) of political leaders from different cultures. According to Schwartz (2004), cultures can be categorised into 3 dimensions: autonomy-embeddedness, egalitarianism-hierarchy and mastery-harmony. This study draws upon the 1st dimension (akin to the most popular cultural dimension of Hofstede: individualism-collectivism) and focuses on comparing the leaders of autonomous and embedded cultures based on how cooperative/conflictual they are. The main research hypothesis is as follows: the leaders of embedded cultures would be more cooperative than the leaders of autonomous cultures. For this purpose, 3 autonomous cultures (the UK, Canada and Australia) and embedded cultures (Singapore, South Africa and Malaysia) cultures were chosen randomly and the cooperativeness of the correspondent countries' leaders were compared after being profiled by Profiler Plus. The results indicated that the leaders of embedded cultures were significantly more cooperative than autonomous cultures after holding the control variables constant. The findings were discussed in the light of relevant literature.

    Background: The central point of this study is team initiative, and we analyzed how the theoretical model of antecedents and consequents of personal initiative contribute to explaining the relationship between team initiative and its antecedents and consequents. Authentic leadership is proposed as the antecedent, and the consequent leads to two types of outcomes, one of which is related to employee well-being, and the other is related to performance. However, little is known about what occurs in this relationship once the focus shifts to the team level. From a team perspective, with the label team initiative, we propose a collective construct defined similarly to personal initiative. This study shows the relationship between team initiative and its two consequences, team work engagement and performance, which are measured in terms of team productivity by the leader. Methods: Our model was tested in a field study with 344 employees of 79 work teams belonging to 55 organizations. Results: The analysis of the results using SEM and a regression analysis supported our main hypotheses. Conclusions: The finding that initiative is related to performance establishes the importance of initiative at the team level. It also emphasizes its impact on employee well-being through team work engagement and suggests the importance of authentic leadership.

    Empowerment is a higher order multilevel framework that is used to understand and evaluate individuals, groups, organizations, and communities as they engage in the practice and execution of the participatory process. The intrapersonal component of psychological empowerment has been examined through sociopolitical control and occupies two dimensions: leadership competence and policy control. Though the Sociopolitical Control Scale for Youth (SPCS-Y) has been examined using a 17-item scale, Christens, Krauss, and Zeldin (2016) recently assessed the factorial validity of an abbreviated SPCS-Y among a sample of Malaysian adolescents. Yet, there is a need to further examine this abbreviated SPCS-Y among a sample of U.S adolescents. This study tested the factor structure of the abbreviated SPCS-Y among a sample of urban youth of color (N = 383). Using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) we examined the relationship leadership competence and policy control had with conceptually related variables. Analyses supported the bidimensional factor structure and the factorial validity of the abbreviated SPCS-Y. MANOVA results also indicate that participants with both higher leadership competence and policy control also had higher composite scores among conceptually related variables.

    OBJECTIVE: Multisectoral nutrition governance (MNG) is a vital enabling determinant of improved nutrition outcomes. Despite this, it remains to be a complex phenomenon that lacks adequate understanding, especially in developing countries like Kenya. This narrative review aims to discuss the evolution of MNG, the current state of MNG, barriers and challenges, and based on these identify entry points for improvement within the complex governance structure in Kenya.

    DESIGN: The Peer Review of Electronic Search Strategies (PRESS) and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were used to ensure rigorous and transparent identification of literature and interpretation.

    SETTING: Kenya and developing countries with similar contexts.

    PARTICIPANTS: The review included forty-five documents (peer-reviewed articles and grey literature) that reported on MNG in developing countries.

    RESULTS: We acknowledge that MNG is a complex and evolving determinant of better nutrition outcomes. The paper highlights challenges Kenya and other developing countries face such as inadequate leadership, inadequate coordination, insufficient capacity, inadequate monitoring and evaluation systems, and limited financial resources, among others. For Kenya in particular, there is inadequate understanding of what MNG is and how it can be effectively operationalised and tracked.

    CONCLUSIONS: To enhance understanding of MNG in Kenya, a country-specific assessment of MNG processes and impact outcomes using standard tools and defined metrics is vital. Such assessment will generate evidence of progress, successes, and challenges that will compel the government and stakeholders to invest more in multisectoral nutrition approaches to achieve its nutrition goals.

    Organizational crisis can serve as a base to provide an opportunity to an organization for enhancing individuals, organizations, and communities. The healthcare sector is one of those sectors that remains under continuous pressure to provide high-quality service delivery to the patients. Hence, the requirement of innovation for this sector is huge when compared to other sectors. The majority of the previous studies have investigated the phenomenon of CSR at the employee's level (CSR-E) to influence employee behavior positively. However, the importance of CSR-E to enhance the innovative capability of the employees at the workplace is not well-explored in extant literature. Moreover, it is not clear from previous studies how the concept of servant leadership can explain the employee's engagement towards innovative work behavior (EIB). Thus, the current survey aims to test the relationship of CSR-E and EIB in the healthcare sector of Pakistan with the mediating effect of servant leadership. The data of the current study were obtained through a self-administered (paper-pencil) survey and they were analyzed through the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. The empirical results of SEM analysis revealed that CSR-E and EIB are positively related and servant leadership partially mediates this relationship. The findings of the current study will be helpful for policymakers to improve their understanding towards CSR-E to induce EIB in the time of crisis. At the same time, the current study also highlights the importance of servant leadership to the policymakers in encouraging the employees to display their innovative capability at the workplace to serve their organization during the time of crisis.

    The study proposes to examine how environmental, social and governance disclosure (ESG) affect the financial performance (FP) of Indian firms. Furthermore, it aims to evaluate the moderation impact of CEO power (CEOP) on the association between ESG on the FP. The study's target population is all firms indexed in NIFTY 100, representing the top one hundred firms by market capitalisation from 2017 to 2021. Data relating to ESG were collected and built based on the available data on Refinitiv Eikon Database. Results reveal that EDI positively and significantly impacts the ROE and TQ of Indian firms. Furthermore, SDI and GDI negatively and significantly affect the ROE and TQ of Indian firms. Moreover, ESG and CEOP have a significant impact on ROE. Nevertheless, ESG has a negative but highly significant impact on ROE, whilst it has a negative and low considerable impact on the TQ of Indian firms. Nonetheless, CEOP does not moderate the association between ESG and FP measured by ROE and TQ. This research contributes to the existing literature by introducing a moderator variable that has not been used in the Indian context; CEO power, which provides stakeholders and regulators with useful findings that would encourage firms to create an ESG committee to enhance ESG disclosure to compete on the world market and reach the United Nations (UN) Sustainable goal 2030. Furthermore, this paper provides insightful recommendations for creating an ESG legal framework for decision-makers.

    There has been only limited research focused on the assumption of leader stress and affective well-being. Hence, this study aims to determine the relationship between leadership style and employee stress level at workplace. This study primarily took a quantitative approach for data collection and analysis. Questionnaires were distributed at three branches of banks located in Kuching, Sarawak and to their employees. The findings show that there is a relationship between autocratic leadership style and employee stress level at workplace. The strength of the relationship is weak due to r = .461, p = .002. The findings also show that democratic leadership and transformational leadership have no relationship with the employee stress level at workplace.

    This study aimed to investigate the geographical trends of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) for tigecycline and colistin in Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli, and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates which were collected for the Antimicrobial Testing Leadership and Surveillance (ATLAS) programme from 2016-2021. MICs of the isolates were determined using the broth microdilution method. In the study period, there was an increase in MIC50 and MIC90 values in Asia for tigecycline MICs in A. baumannii isolates, and the geometric mean of MICs increased significantly from 0.51-0.96 (R2 value of 0.912). The isolates in Europe and Latin America also showed an increase in the geometric mean, but the percentage of MIC values ≤ 2 mg/L decreased from 99.7% to 86.7% in Asia. Among the Asian countries studied, China (90.9%), Thailand (94.3%), and Malaysia (95.5%) showed the lower percentages of tigecycline MIC values ≤0.5 mg/L for E. coli isolates. In terms of colistin susceptibility among A. baumannii isolates, there was no increase in MIC50/ MIC90 or the geometric mean from 2016-2021. Compared to other continents, A. baumannii isolates in Europe had the highest MIC50 (0.5 mg/L), MIC90 (2 mg/L), and geometric mean (0.55 mg/L). For E. coli, the percentage of colistin MIC values ≤2 mg/L was consistently >98% in the study areas from 2016-2021. Among K. pneumoniae isolates, Europe and Latin America had higher geometric means of MICs (0.41 and 0.4 mg/L, respectively) and lower percentages of colistin MICs ≤2 mg/L than those in the other continents.

    To understand the global changes in non-susceptibility rates of Streptococcus pneumoniae to ceftriaxone, we conducted a study using the Antimicrobial Testing Leadership and Surveillance database. A total of 15,717 S. pneumoniae isolates were collected from 2016 to 2021. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined using broth microdilution. The overall susceptibility rates of S. pneumoniae isolates to penicillin, ceftriaxone and ceftaroline were 63.4%, 94.0% and 99.6%, respectively. The geometric mean of MICs and MIC50/MIC90 values of ceftriaxone were higher in Asia than in other continents. China (33.9%), South Korea (33.8%) and Taiwan (27.6%) had the highest ceftriaxone non-susceptibility rates, followed by Turkey, India, Brazil, Malaysia, South Africa and Colombia, with rates between 10% and 20%. During the study period from 2020 to 2021, Asia had the highest MIC90 value (4 mg/L) for ceftriaxone in S. pneumoniae isolates, and the geometric mean of MICs increased from 0.25 mg/L in 2016-2017 to 0.39 mg/L in 2020-2021. Both Asia (from 83.4% to 75.1%) and Latin America (from 94.2% to 86.3%) showed a decreasing trend in ceftriaxone susceptibility rates from 2016 to 2021. In North America, Europe and Oceania, the susceptibility rate was higher than 95%, and there was no obvious change in the rate during the 6 y. Further analysis of the data from Asia revealed that individuals younger than 6 y of age had a lower susceptibility rate to ceftriaxone (71.6% vs. 81.7%, P < 0.05) than patients ≥6 y. The higher non-susceptibility rates of ceftriaxone in S. pneumoniae in Asia may lead to therapeutic challenges in community-acquired pneumonia.

    PURPOSE: To deliver high-quality healthcare doctors need to access, interpret, and share appropriate and localised medical knowledge. Information technology is widely used to facilitate the management of this knowledge in healthcare organisations. The purpose of this study is to develop a knowledge management systems success model for healthcare organisations.

    METHOD: A model was formulated by extending an existing generic knowledge management systems success model by including organisational and system factors relevant to healthcare. It was tested by using data obtained from 263 doctors working within two district health boards in New Zealand.

    RESULTS: Of the system factors, knowledge content quality was found to be particularly important for knowledge management systems success. Of the organisational factors, leadership was the most important, and more important than incentives.

    CONCLUSION: Leadership promoted knowledge management systems success primarily by positively affecting knowledge content quality. Leadership also promoted knowledge management use for retrieval, which should lead to the use of that better quality knowledge by the doctors, ultimately resulting in better outcomes for patients.

    The purpose of this paper is to identify the key domains of entrepreneurial behaviour among business
    owner in food processing industry. The study utilized a deductive research design and quantitative
    method. There are twenty-one statements about entrepreneurial behaviour to discover a core action
    associated with entrepreneurial behaviour. An entrepreneurial behaviour is defined as small family
    business strategic behaviour that captures specific entrepreneurial aspects (Walker and Brown, 2004).
    In additions, it is the actions taken by the small business owner to achieve business performance
    (Delmar, 1996). According to Kirkley (2015), entrepreneurial behaviour as self determined human
    action is based on a specific set of values which the individual uses to make decisions about how to
    behave in situations that a meaningful to their business. The questionnaires focused primarily on the
    meaning of entrepreneurial behaviour as self-determination to be succeed in business. There were 70
    respondents were selected by simple random sampling. The data were analysed by Exploratory Factor
    Analysis (EFA) and categorised into relevant domains. The result shows four specific domains of
    entrepreneurial behaviour business owner in food processing industry, namely, leadership, proactiveness,
    committed and risk taking. The finding items to each of these domains are consistent with
    the small family business perspective. The practical implication is the presence of the specific core
    action associated with entrepreneurial behaviour. The business owner should employ the four core
    action to sustain the business. The result of this study is importance to academician in small business
    area, business advisor from government and non government sectors, and small family business owner.

    BACKGROUND: Personality assessment has its own bright and dark sides, especially in the military setting. It is at play since the emergence of clinical psychology and its application in the recruitment process during World War I and II. Change in personality assessment trends, the evolution of complex personality traits, and changing geopolitical settings across the world necessitate the development of cost-effective, time-efficient, and reliable assessment measures that overcome issues in current assessment measures and fulfil the needs of present timesOBJECTIVE:The objective of this paper is to explore the evolution of personality assessment measures and their uses in military settings along with the comparison of self-report and non-self-report measures. It would give directions for the development of new measures to overcome the issues and drawbacks associated with current measures of research.

    METHODS: The research question was formulated using the most valid SPIDER technique for a comprehensive search. PubMed, Google Scholar, and PsycNet databases were searched. 19 articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria out of 775 articles.

    RESULTS: Thematic analyses show that personality assessment in the military is done to a) detect psychopathology, b) detect aberrant responses, c) recruit new personnel, d) predict training and performance outcomes, and e) predict leadership. The research contributes to the body of knowledge by showing an integrated picture of the most widely used assessment tools and the purpose it serves.

    CONCLUSION: There is a need to develop assessment measures that are culture free and can assess more complex personality attributes.
