METHODS: A detailed questionnaire, comprising of 62 questions was designed and parents or caretakers of 7 to 15 years old children were invited to participate via WeChat, a multi-purpose messaging, social media and mobile payment app, which is widely used by the Chinese population. A total of 668 parents across different regions of China were included.
RESULTS: During COVID-19 pandemic, 20.7 and 7.2% children report experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depressive symptoms due to the COVID-19 pandemic. PTSD and SMFQ-P scores are significantly higher in middle school and boarding school students compared to primary and day school students. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that school system and province of origin are factors significantly associated with developing PSTD symptoms. 44.3% respondents feel online education is effective in gaining knowledge and improving practical and communications skills. 78.0% believe the online education system is efficient. Overall 79.8% respondents are satisfied and children can adapt to this new education system. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we found 1 in five children have PTSD and 1 in 14 children have depressive symptoms.
CONCLUSION: In summary, COVID-19 epidemic has caused PTSD and depression symptoms among Chinese children aged 7 to 15 years. In general, a large proportion of respondents are satisfied with online education, but still a substantial proportion of students are not comfortable with this new form of learning. Authorities should optimize online education systems and implement effective interventions to cope with the psychological effects of COVID-19 on children, as it is affecting the global population and remains uncertain when it will end.
METHODS: An online cross-sectional survey assessing female undergraduate students' intention to obtain the HPV vaccine and their acceptability of 2-, 4- and 9-valent HPV vaccines (2vHPV, 4vHPV, and 9vHPV, respectively).
RESULTS: Of a total of 997 complete responses, 55.2% reported intent to obtain the HPV vaccine. Some of the significant factors exerting influence on intent to obtain HPV vaccination were high knowledge score (OR = 1.469, 95% CI:1.087-1.987), perceived high risk of HPV infection (OR = 1.466, 95%CI:1.017-2.114), perception of no serious side effects (OR = 1.562, 95%CI:1.150-2.121), and mass media exposure to HPV vaccination information (OR = 2.196, 95%CI: 1.625-2.966). Socioeconomic status indicators did not significantly influence intent to obtain the HPV vaccine. A higher proportion of respondents were willing to pay for 2vHPV (78.6%) and 4vHPV (68.0%) compared with 9vHPV (49.3%). Socioeconomic status indicators were the strongest correlates of acceptability for all the three vaccines. Exposure to mass media reporting about HPV vaccination is the factor which exerts the most influence on acceptance of 9vHPV after socioeconomic status indicators.
CONCLUSIONS: It is important to improve knowledge and health beliefs, and to establish a mass media marketing strategy to promote HPV vaccination in order to enhance HPV vaccine uptake. Undergraduate female students should be provided with detailed information about the different valency vaccine choices to help them make informed decisions about immunization.
DESIGN: This study used an interpretive descriptive qualitative design, employing semistructured purposive sampling for focus group discussions. Thematic analysis was conducted on the transcribed interviews and field notes, facilitated by NVivo 12.0 Plus software.
SETTING: Community settings in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province.
PARTICIPANTS: Middle-aged adults (aged 45-59) were identified as at risk of stroke due to the presence of one or more modifiable risk factors.
RESULT: A total of seven focus group discussions were audio recorded. Four main themes emerged, which were: (1) cognitive understanding of a healthy diet; (2) dietary practices; (3) knowledge acquisition and (4) barriers to dietary adherence.
CONCLUSIONS: The middle-aged adults at risk of stroke were generally aware of the risk and attempted to practise healthy eating. The existing educational programmes on following a healthy diet in the prevention of disease need to be made more comprehensible, accessible and equitable, especially for those from socioeconomically disadvantaged communities.
