    Sansevieria trifasciata var. laurentii (De Wild.) N.E. Brown, commonly known as variegated snake plant or variegated mother-in-law's tongue, is a popular landscape and house plant. In September and October 2019, the obvious leaf spot symptoms were observed on the plants in a 0.2 hm2 of nursery in Qingdao city of China with incidence of 55%. The disease usually starts from the tip or edge of the leaf, initially have slightly water-soaked semi-circular or round brown lesions, which gradually expanded and coalesced into irregular shapes about 3-8 cm in diameter. Grayish brown sunken spots with dark margins that evolve into concentric rings of acervuli which were characteristic of anthracnose, and orange sticky conidial masses were observed under the moist condition. The leaves with typical anthracnose symptoms were collected and deposited in the herbarium of Qingdao agricultural university under accessions no. QDHB074-QDHB087. Subsequently 20 isolates with the same colony and morphological characteristics were obtained from ten diseased leaves by placing surface-sterilized tissue pieces with typical spots on potato dextrose agar (PDA). Colonies are floccose with grayish-white to dark olivaceous gray color, and gray black on the reverse after 14 days at 28°C. Straight conidia [15.0 to 27.5 × 3.5 to 7.0 μm in size (average 18.2 × 6.1 μm) (n = 50)] were cylindrical, aseptate, hyaline, slippery surface, most with one tapering end and the other oval. Setae were black, 185-230 μm in length, with a thin tip and septate in the middle. Appressoria [6.5 to 7.3 × 7.8 to 9.2 μm in size (average 6.8 × 8.1 μm) (n = 15)] were black to dark brown, solitary, spherical with smooth wall. The fungal isolates were identified as Colletotrichum sansevieriae Nakamura (Nakamura et al. 2006), based on the morphological characteristics. To confirm the identification, the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and calmodulin (CAL) regions of a representative isolate HWL-1016 were amplified by primers ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990) and CMD5/CMD6 (Weir et al. 2012), respectively. The 549 bp ITS (MN922517) and 597 bp CAL (OM994078) sequences had respectively 100% and 99.30% identity with the sequences from holotype species of C. sansevieriae MAFF 239721 (no. NR_152313 and LC180125). Phylogenetic tree based on ITS and CAL sequences respectively or jointly constructed by PAUP4.0 (Swofford 2002) revealed that the fungus in this study clustered with C. sansevieriae isolates (NR_152313, KC790947, HQ433226, JF911349, MN386823). Pathogenicity test of isolate HWL1016 was evaluated on five 3- to 4-month-old potted S. trifasciata var. laurentii under greenhouse conditions (27±2 °C, 16-hr light/8-hr dark photoperiod, 80% relative humidity). Conidial suspension (1×106 conidia/mL) of the isolated fungus from PDA colonies cultured for 15 days and sterile distilled water (as control) were sprayed on pin-pricked surface-sterilized (70% alcohol) leaves of potted plants, respectively. Three replications (three plants) were done for each treatment, and the experiment was repeated twice. The inoculated plants were covered with plastic films for 2 days and obvious water-soaked wounds were observed on the sixth day. After 16 days, the symptoms of the inoculated plants were similar to those in the nursery, with disease incidence reached 100%, while controls remained symptomless. C. sansevieriae was subsequently reisolated from the symptomatic tissues. Anthracnose on S. trifasciata var. laurentii caused by C. sansevieriae has been reported in Australia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia (Kee et al. 2020), South Korea, USA (Talhinhas & Baroncelli 2021), India (Gautam et al. 2012) and Thailand (Li et al. 2020). To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. sansevieriae causing anthracnose on S. trifasciata var. laurentii in China. This study will contribute to guide effective management based on pathogen.

    This paper aimed to examine the role of faith-based organizations (FBOs) in the distribution of social assistance (SA) during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. The paper adopts a qualitative case-study approach to explore the best practices in the distribution of SA by five (5) organizations including FBOs, governmental organizations (GOs), Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), political groups, and private voluntary groups. In this study, 14 beneficiaries of SA were selected by stratified proportionate random sampling method, and five (5) key personnel were selected purposively based on their experiences in the management of SA distribution. The study found that "no-move, no touch" approach followed by FBOs is more likely to establish human rights and social justice and reduce the transmission of diseases. In contrast to the modern idea, which undermines the faith-based charity, the study proved that faith-based charity is gaining attraction as an effective approach combating global pandemic. The findings of this paper will be useful for policymakers, voluntary service workers, GO, and NGO workers to ensure the distribution of SA in a more productive and disciplined way during and after an emergency like the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The increasing concerns of investors toward green bonds and their appealing nature of diversification has motivated the current research to study the risk connectedness between green and conventional assets spanning from August 2014 to December 2020. We first estimate the dynamic equi-correlations through DECO-GARCH. Next, we assess the dynamic and static risk connectedness in the median, extreme low, and extreme high quantiles arguing that spillovers vary across different time periods particularly during economically intense time periods. Finally, we analyzed the hedge ratio and hedge effectiveness between green bonds and other assets. We find that equi-correlations are intense during economic shocks such as the Shale oil crisis, Brexit, US interest rate hike, and COVID-19 pandemic. The volatility analysis at average, lower, and upper quantiles also validate time-varying attributes of green and conventional assets. Further, network figures of green and conventional assets identify potential diversification opportunities. Meanwhile, the hedge effectiveness indicates that green bonds are effective hedge for precious metals and cryptocurrencies. Our findings draw multiple implications for policymakers, green investors, financial market participants, and regulatory authorities regarding flight-to-safety during crisis times and maintaining a diverse portfolio to escape potential losses.

    For a successful delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs) and to track the progress of UNSDGs as well as identify the gaps and the areas requiring more attention, periodic analyses on the "research on sustainability" by various countries and their contribution to the topic are inevitable. This paper tracks the trends in sustainability research including the geographical distribution on sustainability research, their level of multi-disciplinarity and the cross-border collaboration, their distribution of funding with respect to the UNSDGs, and the lifecycle analyses. Cumulative publications and patents on sustainability could be fitted to an exponential function, thereby highlighting the importance of the research on sustainability in the recent past. Besides, this analytics quantifies cross-border collaborations and knowledge integration to solve critical issues as well as traditional and emerging sources to undertake sustainability research. As an important aspect of resource sustainability and circular economy, trends in publication and funding on lifecycle assessment have also been investigated. The analytics present here identify that major sustainability research volume is from the social sciences as well as business and economics sectors, whereas contributions from the engineering disciplines to develop technologies for sustainability practices are relatively lower. Similarly, funding distribution is also not evenly distributed under various SDGs; the larger share of funding has been on energy security and climate change research. Thus, this study identifies many gaps to be filled for the UNSDGs to be successful.

    COVID-19 led restrictions make it imperative to study how pandemic affects the systemic risk profile of global commodities network. Therefore, we investigate the systemic risk profile of global commodities network as represented by energy and nonenergy commodity markets (precious metals, industrial metals, and agriculture) in pre- and post-crisis period. We use neural network quantile regression approach of Keilbar and Wang (Empir Econ 62:1-26, 2021) using daily data for the period 01 January 2018-27 October 2021. The findings suggest that at the onset of COVID-19, the two firm-specific risk measures namely value at risk and conditional value of risk explode pointing to increasing systemic risk in COVID-19 period. The risk spillover network analysis reveals moderate to high lower tail connectedness of commodities within each sector and low tail connectedness of energy commodities with the other sectors for both pre- and post-COVID-19 periods. The Systemic Network Risk Index reveals an abrupt increase in systemic risk at the start of pandemic, followed by gradual stabilization. We rank commodities in terms of systemic fragility index and observe that in post COVID-19 period, gold, silver, copper, and zinc are the most fragile commodities while wheat and sugar are the least fragile commodities. We use Systemic Hazard Index to rank commodities with respect to their risk contribution to global commodities network. During post COVID-19 period, the energy commodities (except natural gas) contribute most to the systemic risk. Our study has important implications for policymakers and the investment industry.

    Without proper preparation by higher institutions, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the world to rely on online learning. Even students of social science and science are looking for different knowledge and skills. Currently, both groups rely on the same method to gather knowledge for future undertakings. Given the uncertainty regarding the resolution of COVID-19, which has driven students to continue using online learning, the current study aims to identify the factors of willingness to continue online learning among social science and pure science students by extending the use of expectation-confirmation theory. Applying a purposive sampling method, 2,215 questionnaires were collected among undergraduate students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) using an online survey. Current study found that expectation and confirmation positively affect satisfaction. Attitude, satisfaction and readiness were found to have a positive relationship with willingness to continue online learning. Meanwhile, self-efficacy was found unsupported hypothesis for the direct effect. For multigroup analysis, readiness was found to have a significant difference between students of social science and pure science. The findings of this research enrich the literature about online learning, especially in the COVID-19 setting. Moreover, this work is useful for higher education institutions seeking to design a better strategy that allows students to return to campus.

    Benevolent leadership is one of the leadership styles which provides a positive influence on employees. However, the current leadership literature has yet to investigate how benevolent leadership leads to job performance, the processes involved, the relationship between organizational culture and benevolent leadership, and the role of dark side of leaders in affecting this relationship. Using the leader-culture fit framework within an Eastern context, the current study first investigates the relationship between benevolent leadership and job performance through work engagement. The study then compares two contrasting organizational culture (i.e., market culture and clan culture) on benevolent leadership. Finally, the study investigates how leaders' dark triad affects the relationship between organizational culture and benevolent leadership. 374 full-time white-collar employees (Males = 54.01%; Mean age: 32.7 years) from various private organizations within the service industry participated in this study. The results showed that work engagement mediated benevolent leadership and job performance. Market culture showed a negative relationship with benevolent leadership while clan culture showed a positive relationship with benevolent leadership. Benevolent leadership mediated clan culture (but not market culture) and work engagement. Under a high market culture with a high dark triad leader, benevolent leadership is at its lowest level. Under a high clan culture with a low dark triad leader, benevolent leadership is at its highest level. The findings suggest the importance of benevolent leadership within a clan culture (rather than market culture), in aligning with the leader-culture fit framework in increasing employees' work engagement and job performance.

    Dragon fruit (Hylocereus spp.) is gaining popularity due to high net return, medicinal importance and ability to survive under less water and poor quality soils. In year 2020 and 2021, H. undatus and H. polyrhizus plants at research field of ICAR-National Institute of Abiotic Stress Management, Baramati (18°09'30.62″N, 74°30'08″E) were affected with anthracnose disease. Out of 340 plants, 60 were symptomatic, showed disease severity up to 25 to 30%. Intermittent raining in July to September and untimely rain in November, 2021 favored the disease. Infected cladodes showed reddish to dark-brown, sunken lesions, with chlorotic haloes later converted to mature necrotic patches with prominent black acervuli. On fruits, small, light brown spots quickly turned to sunken water-soaked lesions with concentric rings of black acervuli. Infected stems were collected randomly from different plants. For pathogen isolation, lesion edge tissues (5 to 10 mm2) were excised and disinfected with 1% Sodium hypochlorite (2 min) followed by triple rinsed with sterilized water and plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) amended with Streptomycin sulphate (30 mg/L) for 4 days at 27 ± 2°C with a 12 h photoperiod. Purified colonies of three isolates 2CT, 6CT, D6CT were obtained from successive isolation attempts. Colonies were round with smooth margins, initially pale white mycelia that changed to dark gray with pinkish-orange conidial masses. Average colony diameter was 58.3 mm at 7 DAI. Conidia were single-celled, hyaline, slightly curved, tapered tip and truncate base, with an oil globule at center. Average conidia size (n=50) was 25.7 (±2.3) μm × 3.7 (±0.2) μm, L/W ratio=6.9. Conidia were initiated from an acervular conidiomata with intermittent dark brown, septate, straight, pointed setae 114 (±35) μm long × 4.5 (±1.1) μm wide. Appressoria were dark brown, lobate or round, mostly in groups, measuring 11 (±2.4) × 6.6 (±0.8) μm. Morphological characters were consistent with Colletotrichum truncatum (Schwein.) Andrus & W.D. Moore (Damm et al. 2009). For molecular identity of three isolates, partial internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, actin, β-tubulin (TUB2) and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) genes were amplified with ITS1/ITS4, ACT512F/ACT783R, BT2A/BT2B, and GDF1/GDR1 primers, respectively. Sequences were deposited in GenBank (ITS: OK639098 to OK639100; Actin: OM927967, OM927968, ON099061; TUB2: OM927969, ON099062, ON099063; GAPDH: ON099064, ON099065). A maximum likelihood phylogenetic tree based on all sequenced loci in MEGA11 shows the clustering of present isolates in the C. truncatum clade. For pathogenicity, 4 month old unwounded stems of H. undatus and H. polyrhizus were inoculated with a spore spray (1x106/ml conidia) of C. truncatum. For each isolate, three plants were inoculated. Plants inoculated with sterilized water represented the negative control. Inoculated and control plants were kept separately at 25 ± 2°C temperature and >85% relative humidity. Inoculated plants showed minute, sunken, water soaked, reddish brown spots which were converted to sunken patches with black acervuli at 15 DAI. No symptoms were observed in the negative control. Pathogenicity test was repeated twice and the pathogen was re-isolated from symptomatic stems showed similar morphology with C. truncatum. Based on morphological and molecular characteristics and pathogenicity test, pathogen identified as C. truncatum. Previously, dragon fruit anthracnose caused by C. truncatum was reported from China (Guo et al. 2014) and Malaysia (Vijaya et al. 2015). To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. truncatum cause of dragon fruit anthracnose in India. Detailed pathogen diagnostics may help in formulating effective, on time, appropriate disease management strategies.

    This study provides much-needed empirical study of workplace inclusion of underresourced employees of low socioeconomic status. Based upon a conservation of resources perspective, we have examined the centrality of resources as a key inclusion process for well-being outcomes for employees with insufficient resources. In the context of misuse of institutional power over operative workers within highly segmented and hierarchical work settings, this study validates the importance of economic inclusion for fostering workers' well-being via fair employment practices. This study also offers new knowledge of the integrative resource model of workplace inclusion research by validating workers' personal resources of learning orientation as an internal condition for strengthening the positive effect of economic inclusion on well-being.

    Background: Anaemia has been identified as a major public health problem that affects both developed and developing countries, including Malaysia. To prevent anaemia, knowledge is a key parameter for changing attitudes and practices. Aim: This present study aims to determine the association of knowledge and practices in preventing nutritional anaemia with anaemia status of urban poor adolescents in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Methods: A total of 209 urban poor adolescents (50.7% males and 49.3% females) aged 10 to 17 years old were recruited from eight low-cost flats (People Housing Programme) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A self-administered questionnaire was used to assess the sociodemographic characteristics, knowledge and practices in preventing nutritional anaemia.     The finance and natural resources revenue nexus play a critical role in an economy. The recent development and significant increase in academic literature regarding the resource-finance nexus are the primary motivations for conducting this study. This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis of 363 documents published between 1976 and 2021 collected from the Scopus database. The results have been demonstrated via graphs, tables, knowledge maps about the past trends, growth, and prospects using co-occurrence, co-authorship, and co-citation analysis via the VOSviewer tool. This study has identified prolific authors, journals, countries, academic institutions, and future pathways. The findings indicate that China has the highest share of publications (88, 24.2%), followed by Pakistan (58, 15.9%) and Turkey (37, 10.2%). The most productive academic institution is the Beijing Institute of Technology in China (13, 3.6%). This study proposes new avenues for further research concerning the resource-finance nexus, such as ecological footprint, sustainability, fiscal decentralization, green investment, energy prices, environmental quality, technological innovation, financial resource curse (especially the stock market resource curse), human capital, and renewable energy in policy development and sustainability towards the achievement of the SDGs.

    Photothermal therapy is a promising treatment modality in the realm of cancer therapy. Photothermal nanomaterials that absorb and emit in the near-infrared range (750-900 nm) have drawn a lot of attention recently because of the deep penetration of NIR light in biological tissue. Most nanomaterials, however, are produced by encapsulating or altering the surface of a nanoplatform, which has limited loading capacity and long-term storage. Herein, we developed a stable polymer conjugated with aza-BODIPY that self-assembled to form nanoparticles (aza-BODIPY-mPEG) with better hydrophilicity and biocompatibility while retaining the dye's photothermal conversion characteristics. Aza-BODIPY-mPEG with a hydrodynamic size of around 170 nm exhibited great photostability and excellent photothermal therapy in vitro and in ovo. Aza-BODIPY-mPEG exhibits approximately 30% better anti-angiogenesis and antitumor activity against implanted xenograft human HCT116 tumor in the chick embryo compared to parent aza-BODIPY-A, altogether suggesting that aza-BODIPY-mPEG is a promising material for cancer photothermal therapy.

    The COVID-19 pandemic is caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), a respiratory pathogen with neuroinvasive potential. Neurological COVID-19 manifestations include loss of smell and taste, headache, dizziness, stroke, and potentially fatal encephalitis. Several studies found elevated proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6 IL-8, IL-10 IL-16, IL-17A, and IL-18 in severely and critically ill COVID-19 patients, which may persist even after apparent recovery from infection. Biomarker studies on CSF and plasma and serum from COVID-19 patients have also shown a high level of IL-6, intrathecal IgG, neurofilament light chain (NFL), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and tau protein. Emerging evidence on the matter has established the concept of COVID-19 associated neuroinflammation, in the context of COVID-19 associated cytokine storm. While the short-term implications of this condition are extensively documented, its long-term implications are yet to be understood. The association of the aforementioned cytokines with the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Huntington disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, may increase COVID-19 patients' risk to develop neurodegenerative diseases. Analysis of proinflammatory cytokines and CSF biomarkers in patients with COVID-19 can contribute to the early detection of the disease's exacerbation, monitoring the neurological implications of the disease and devising risk scales, and identifying treatment targets.

    The Ethics of Care (EoC) theory has been widely applied in the field of management, and there is a growing consensus that it is important to recognise the value and practice of care in the workplace. In this paper, we consider the implications of the EoC at work, and in particular the risks unboundaried care demands may pose to employees who encounter unmanageable 'calls to care'. We present findings from interviews with 27 nurses in Malaysia, which suggest that the demand to care at work, in addition to demands made in the non-work sphere, may be unmanageable. We argue for a more boundaried approach to the EoC at work with a view to ensuring that in valuing care we do not over-burden the carer.

    Purpose - Political globalization is a crucial and distinct component of strengthening global organizations. Obesity is a global epidemic in a few nations, and it is on the verge of becoming a pandemic that would bring plenty of diseases. This research aims to see how the political globalization index affects worldwide human obesity concerning global human development levels. Methods- To assess any cross-sectional dependence among observed 109 nations, the yearly period from 1990 to 2017 is analyzed using second generation panel data methods. KAO panel cointegration test and Fully Modified Least Square model were used to meet our objectives. Finding- Low level of political globalization tends to increase global human obesity because countries cannot sway international decisions and resources towards them. While the high level of political globalization tends to reduce obesity because it can control and amends international decisions. For the regression model, a fully modified Least Square model was utilized. The study observed that the R squared values for all models are healthy, with a minimum of 87 percent variables explaining differences in global obesity at the country level. Originality: There is very important to tackle the globalization issue to reduce global human obesity. With the simplicity of dietary options and the amount of physical labour they undergo in their agricultural duties, an increase in rural population percentage tends to lower the average national obesity value.

    In July 2019 to November 2021, symptoms of fruit rot of Averrhoa bilimbi (commonly known as bilimbi) fruits were observed in Serdang (3°00'05.8"N 101°42'18.4"E) and Tanjong Karang (3°25'55.3"N 101°12'55.7"E), Selangor, Malaysia. External decay showed some yellowish to brownish-red discoloration and inside the fruit there was black powdery sporulation and a brownish decay that measured between 8 - 15 mm wide. Twenty random symptomatic fruits were collected from each location. Small pieces (5 mm) of infected tissues from the fruit rot were surface sterilized for 1 min in 0.5% NaOCl, washed twice with sterile distilled water and cultured onto potato dextrose agar (PDA) and peptone pentachloronitrobenzene agar (PPA). The plates were incubated at 28 ± 1oC under 12 hours light/dark for 7 days. The fungal colonies growing from the plates were purified using hyphal tip technique (Leyronas et al. 2012). A total of 42 fungal isolates were obtained, and the morphology characteristics of six isolates were matched that of Aspergillus niger. The A. niger isolates were further identified based genus and species-specific Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) sequencing. Primers ITS1/ITS4, were used to amplify and subsequently sequenced the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region (White et al. 1990). Primer ASAP1 (5'-CAGCGAGTACATCACCTTGG-3'), ASAP2 (5'-CCATTGTTGAAAGTTTTAACTGATT-3') was used for Aspergillus species confirmation, primer ASPU (5'-ACTACCGATTGAATGGCTCG-3') / Ni1r (5'-ACGCTTTCAGACAGTGTTCG-3') for A. niger species-specific, ASPU / Af3r (5'-CATACTTTCAGAACAGCGTTCA-3') for A. fumigatus specific-specific and ASPU / Fl2r (5'-TTCACTAGATCAGACAGAGT-3') for A. flavus specific-specific (Sugita et al. 2004). In general, Aspergillus niger isolates grew rapidly on PDA and were visibly white initially then appearing black and powdery on the second day of incubation (Figure 1A). Some isolates grew rapidly (0.71-0.85 cm/day) and have a cottony appearance. The conidia were appeared brown to black, globose and rough with diameter ranging between 4.1-5.2 µm (Figure 1B). The vesicles were hyaline, globose, and brown in color with measurement of 30-75 µm in diameter with uniseriate sterigmata (Figure 1C). The conidial head was brownish black in color and split into several irregular and regular columns of conidial chains (Figure 1D-E). The conidiophores were hyaline, and brown in color. Phylogenetic trees of ITS (Figure 2A) and ASAP sequences (Figure 2B) were constructed using a Neighbor-Joining method showing isolates Aspergillus niger #11, #15, #32, #33, #41 and #42 were grouped into the same clade as A. niger (accession no. MT446087). To examine virulence of A. niger, pathogenicity tests were performed three times by inoculating an asymptomatic fruit with six isolates of A. niger (isolate #11, #15, #32, #33, #41 and #42) and a single isolate for each species of Aspergillus aculeatus, Lasiodiplodia theobromae and Penicillium gerundense. Ten fruits were inoculated by placing a mycelial disc (6 mm) (Kouame et al. 2010) from a 5-day-old culture of each fungal colony while control fruits were non-inoculated with any fungal colony (10 fruits were inoculated with a sterile agar disc and 10 were non-inoculated, respectively). After 3 days, typical symptoms of Aspergillus fruit rot were observed on A. niger inoculated fruits, whereas the control fruits remained asymptomatic (Figure 1F-P). Aspergillus niger was reisolated and reidentified based on morphological and molecular characterization from the inoculated, symptomatic fruits, thus confirming Koch's postulates. A. niger causing widespread diseases in various plant and it is a common contaminant of food. This study shows A. niger to be highly virulent on bilimbi fruits and leads to reduction of fruit quality and its production. To our knowledge, this is the first report of A. niger causing fruit rot on bilimbi and future work on its pathogenesis may provide strategies for disease control against the pathogen.

    The Malaysian government reinforced smoking restrictions at public venues to protect nonsmokers from secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure. This study examined whether smokers' reports about smoking restrictions and psychosocial beliefs were associated with quit intentions among Malaysian smokers. Data from 1047 cigarette smokers (103 females and 944 males) aged 18 and older from the 2020 International Tobacco Control (ITC) Malaysia Wave 1 Survey were analyzed with bivariate and multivariable logistic regression models. Most Malaysian smokers (85.2%) reported having quit intentions. Smoking was completely restricted in 34.8% of the nighttime venues, 85.3% of air-conditioned (AC) food and beverage (F&B) venues (restaurants, food courts, coffee shops), 87.3% of non-AC F&B, and 69.4% of indoor workplaces. Smokers who visited nighttime entertainment venues where smoking was fully restricted were less likely to have quit intentions. There was no significant association found with quit intentions for smokers who visited AC and non-AC F&B venues and indoor workplaces where smoking was fully restricted. All five psychosocial beliefs assessed, age, and education were positively associated with quit intentions. Malaysian smokers are interested in quitting and psychosocial beliefs were positively associated with quit intentions. There is a need for the Malaysian government to implement and reinforce comprehensive smoking restrictions in all public venues and indoor workplaces to protect nonsmokers from SHS exposure and to encourage smokers to think about quitting, which may influence their quit intentions.

    With the development of economic and technologies, the trend of annual Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission changes with time passes. The relationship between economic growth and carbon dioxide emissions is considered as one of the most important empirical relationships. In this study, we focus on the member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, including China, Russia, India, and Pakistan and collect CO2 emission and annual GDP from 1969 to 2014. The statistical methods and tests are used to find the relationship between annual GDP and CO2 emission in these countries. Based on relationship between annual and CO2 emission, a novel multi-step prediction algorithm called Extreme Learning Machine with Artificial Bee Colony (ELM-ABC) is proposed for forecasting annual GDP based on CO2 emission and historical GDP features. According to the experimental results, it proved that the proposed model had a super forecasting ability in GDP prediction and it could predict ten-year future annual GDP for the corresponding countries. Moreover, the forecasting results showed that the annual GDP of China and Pakistan will continue to grow but growth will slow after 2025. The annual GDP in India will exhibit unstable growth. The trend of Russia will follow the pattern between 2010 and 2016.

    Anisomeles indica (L.) Kuntze is a perennial erect herb that belongs to the genus Epimeredi, family Labiatae (Hsieh et al., 2008). This herb is distributed in several southern provinces such as Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou in China, and it is also exported to Southeast Asian countries such as Singapore and Malaysia (Li., 2010; Yao et al., 2019). Due to its market potential and broad development prospects, the herb has been cultivated in Yunnan. In August 2021, virus-like symptoms on leaves, including shrinking, mosaic, and yellow mottling(Fig S1. A) appeared on approximately 80% of A. indica in the experimental fields of the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Science, in Kunming, Yunnan. To unveil the possible viral agents associated with the disease symptoms, leaf samples were collected from 5 plants for transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis using negative staining (Zhang et al., 2016). Rhabditiform-shaped particles around 300 × 18 nm (Fig S1. C) were observed, which resemble those of tobamoviruses. To identify the exact virus, total RNA was extracted from the 20 leaf samples using the RNA-easy Isolation Reagent (Vazyme, Nanjing, China), followed by reverse transcription (RT)-PCR with a degenerate tobamovirus primer pair (Li et al., 2014). A 480-bp amplicon was obtained from each sample and cloned into the pMD18-T vector for Sanger sequencing (Takara, Dalian, China). BLASTn-analysis revealed that the 20 amplicons were identical and shared 100% nucleotide sequence identity with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) isolate Bei Cang Zhu from Atractylodes lancea (acc. no. KU198186) One sequence was deposited in the GenBank under the accession number OK489807. ELISA testing with TMV-specific antibody (Agdia, USA) produced positive results for all of the 20 leaf samples. In order to understand the difference between TMV isolates from A. indica and those form other host plants, the sequences of movement protein (MP, 807 bp) and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp, 3351 bp) of TMV were also obtained from one of the TMV infected samples using the target gene special primers (Tab. S1), and submitted to GenBank under the accession number OM3662406 (MP) and OM366242 (RdRp). BLASTn-analysis revealed that the amplicon of MP shared 97.75% nucleotide sequence identity with TMV isolate Henan 9-2-2017 from sweet potato (MN186255.1) and RdRp shared 97.43% nucleotide sequence identity with TMV isolate SXFQ from Solanum lycopersicum (JX993906.1). Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate of A. indica grouped with several TMV isolates (e.g., tomato, AF103779.1 and tobacco, HE818449.1) from Northern China. The virus was successfully transmitted onto healthy A.indica plants (n = 5) upon mechanical inoculation as the plants not only developed foliar distortion symptoms but also tested positive for TMV by RT-PCR with the CP-specific primers (Tab. S1). Taken together, our results demonstrated that the diseased A. indica plants were infected with TMV. To our knowledge, this is the first report of TMV infected A. indica (L.) Kuntze in China. Symptomatic phenotype-based field surveys on some plantations in Yunnan Province indicated that the disease incidence ranged from 70% to 90%, resulting in significant loss of production of A. indica. It is necessary to monitor the viruses in the fields and find effective methods to protect TMV in the A. indica (L.) Kuntze industry.

    BACKGROUND: In Malaysia, although diabetes accounts for more than 70% of all deaths, it is unclear how it relates to BMI and diabetic complications. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of obesity and diabetic complications among diabetic patients in Malaysia.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study using an existing clinical registry was performed from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2020 at Hospital Serdang, Malaysia. Adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had their medical records examined for disease complications, as reported by the patient at first contact with the DMTAC pharmacist.

    RESULTS: The study comprised a total of 495 participants with an average HbA1c of 10.5%. About 91% (n = 451) of the 495 patients were obese/overweight. Around 37.8% (n = 187) of diabetic patients are between the ages of 50 and 59, and 59% (n = 292) have had diabetes for less than 10 years. A total of 8.5% (n = 42) and 9.7% (n = 48) consume alcohol and smoke, respectively. Around 29.9% (n = 148) had one other comorbidity (hypertension or dyslipidemia), and 63.4% (n = 314) had two comorbidities. Regarding the prevalence of complications, there were 18.9% (n = 94) who had myocardial infarction, 11.1% (n = 55) who had stroke, and 9% (n = 45) who had CKD. Age (adjusted OR = 1.03; 95% CI 1.00 to 1.07; p = 0.041) and hypertension (adjusted OR = 4.06; 95% CI 1.21 to 13.60; p = 0.023) were significantly related with the prevalence of complications in patients with diabetes.

    CONCLUSION: In our study, a BMI of more than 23 kg/m2 (obese/overweight) does not seem to be associated with the prevalence of complications. Age and hypertension, on the other hand, appear to be strong risk predictors of the incidence of complications. With the understanding of the recent outlook on diabetes, it is recommended that public education on the targeted population should be encouraged to negate these complications.
