Mitragynine is a promising candidate for pain relief and opiate replacement but the investigations for drug delivery are lacking. This study aims to investigate the potential of mitragynine to be delivered through the skin with an emphasis on developing and validating a gradient HPLC-UV analytical method to determine mitragynine in the samples collected during in vitro skin permeation studies. The optimised method involves a gradient elution using a C18 column with a mobile phase comprising acetonitrile and 0.1 %v/v of formic acid (0-1 min: 30:70 to 70:30 (v/v) and hold up to 4 min; 4-6 min: return to 30:70 (v/v) and hold up to 10 min) at a flow rate of 1.2 mL/min. This method was validated based on the standards set by the International Council on Harmonisation guidelines. The method showed mitragynine elution at ∼ 4 min with adequate linearity (R2 ≥ 0.999 for concentration ranges of 0.5-10 and 10-175 μg/mL) and acceptable limits of detection and quantification at 0.47 and 1.43 μg/mL, respectively. The analytical performance is robust with excellent precision and accuracy. This method was used to evaluate the in vitro skin permeation of mitragynine (5 %w/v) from simple solvent systems over 48 hr. The results showed a cumulative amount of mitragynine permeated at ∼ 11 μg/cm2 for dimethyl sulfoxide and ∼ 4 μg/cm2 for propylene glycol. The study not only addressed the issues of the currently available HPLC-UV methods that limit the direct application but also affirmed the potential of mitragynine to be delivered through the skin.

Cement production emits a significant carbon dioxide (CO2) gas, dramatically influencing the environment. Furthermore, a large amount of energy is consumed during the cement manufacturing process; since Pakistan is already facing an energy crisis, this high energy consumption by the cement industry puts further stress on Pakistan's energy sector. Hence, the price of cement is rising day by day. Furthermore, waste disposals and concrete ingredients' restoration after demolition have adversative effects on the environment. Therefore, using these wastes decreases cement manufacturing, thereby reducing energy consumption, but it also aids in safeguarding the environment. The study aimed to determine the concrete properties by partially replacing cement with only eggshell powder (ESP) and combining ESP and silica fume (SF) in a ternary binder system in the mixture. However, workability, water absorption, compressive strength, split tensile strength, and flexural strength were all investigated in this study. In this experimental study, cement was replaced as 5, 8, 11, 15, and 20% of ESP, along with 5, 10, and 15% of silica by weight of cement in concrete. Approximately 21 mixes were prepared, from which 01 control mix, 05 mixes of ESP alone, and 15 mixes designed with a blend of ESP and SF with a 1:1.25:3 mix ratio and 0.5 water-cement ratios. Study parameters advocate the substitution of 11% ESP and 10% SF as the optimal option for maximum strength. Furthermore, combining ESP and SF diminishes the composite concrete mixture's workability and dry density greatly.

Vaccine hesitancy (VH) is defined as a delayed in acceptance or refusal of vaccines despite availability of vaccination services. This multinational study examined user interaction with social media about COVID-19 vaccination. The study analyzed social media comments in 24 countries from five continents. In total, 5856 responses were analyzed; 83.5% of comments were from Facebook, while 16.5% were from Twitter. In Facebook, the overall vaccine acceptance was 40.3%; the lowest acceptance rates were evident in Jordan (8.5%), Oman (15.0%), Senegal (20.0%) and Morocco (20.7%) and the continental acceptance rate was the lowest in North America 22.6%. In Twitter, the overall acceptance rate was (41.5%); the lowest acceptance rate was found in Oman (14.3%), followed by USA (20.5%), and UK (23.3%) and the continental acceptance rate was the lowest in North America (20.5%), and Europe (29.7%). The differences in vaccine acceptance across countries and continents in Facebook and Twitter were statistically significant. Regarding the tone of the comments, in Facebook, countries that had the highest number of serious tone comments were Sweden (90.9%), USA (61.3%), and Thailand (58.8%). At continent level, serious comments were the highest in Asia (58.4%), followed by Africa (46.2%) and South America (46.2%). In Twitter, the highest serious tone was reported in Egypt (72.2%) while at continental level, the highest proportion of serious comments was observed in Asia (59.7%), followed by Europe (46.5%). The differences in tone across countries and continents in Facebook and Twitter and were statistically significant. There was a significant association between the tone and the position of comments. We concluded that the overall vaccine acceptance in social media was relatively low and varied across the studied countries and continents. Consequently, more in-depth studies are required to address causes of such VH and combat infodemics.

Grown only in humid tropical conditions, the palm tree provides high-quality oil essential for cooking and personal care or biofuel in the energy sector. After the refining process, this demand could cause numerous oil palm biomass waste management problems. However, the emergence of carbon nanomaterials or CNMs could be a great way to put this waste to a good cause. The composition of the palm waste can be used as a green precursor or starting materials for synthesizing CNMs. Hence, this review paper summarizes the recent progress for the CNMs production for the past 10 years. This review paper extensively discusses the method for processing CNMs, chemical vapor deposition, pyrolysis, and microwave by the current synthesis method. The parameters and conditions of the synthesis are also analyzed. The application of the CNMs from palm oil and future recommendations are also highlighted. Generally, this paper could be a handy guide in assisting the researchers in exploring economic yet simple procedures in synthesizing carbon-based nanostructured materials derived from palm oil that can fulfill the required applications.

The COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to unprecedented transformations in consumer behaviour. Less is known about how consumers react to privacy stress while being compelled to continuously purchase online during the pandemic. Therefore, underpinned by the stimulus-organism-response (SOR) theory, this paper aims to examine the impacts of perceived Internet risk, self-efficacy, privacy stress, and trust on consumers' continuous purchasing intention in China. Few studies have examined the mediating roles of privacy stress and brand trust in continuous purchasing intention. This research thus adds value by exploring the underlying mechanisms that explain how these factors affect purchasing intention where consumers have little choice but to make purchase online continuously. It employs a quantitative research design and uses a survey questionnaire to collect data. A total of 535 consumers responded and the data were analysed via PLS-SEM. We found mixed results for the direct and indirect paths. Perceived Internet risk, platform trust, and self-efficacy showed significant impacts on privacy stress and brand trust. While brand trust had a significant impact on continuous online purchase intention, contrary to previous literature, privacy stress did not. Moreover, while brand trust was found to be a significant mediator, privacy stress exerted no mediating effect. The results assist marketing practitioners, organizations, and policymakers in improving consumers' online shopping experience in uncertain times by addressing the issues of trust and privacy. Specifically, we provide the foundation for future policies and strategies that build consumers' trust and secure consumers' privacy, especially in highly uncertain contexts.

OBJECTIVE: To identify the rates of neurological events following administration of mRNA (Pfizer, Moderna) or adenovirus vector (Janssen) vaccines in the U.S..

METHODS: We utilized publicly available data from the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) collected between January 1, 2021-June 14, 2021. All free text symptoms that were reported within 42 days of vaccine administration were manually reviewed and grouped into 36 individual neurological diagnostic categories. Post-vaccination neurological event rates were compared between vaccine types and to age-matched baseline incidence rates in the U.S. and rates of neurological events following COVID.

RESULTS: Of 306,907,697 COVID vaccine doses administered during the study timeframe, 314,610 (0.1%) people reported any adverse event and 105,214 (0.03%) reported neurological adverse events in a median of 1 day (IQR0-3) from inoculation. Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), and cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT) occurred in fewer than 1 per 1,000,000 doses. Significantly more neurological adverse events were reported following Janssen (Ad26.COV2.S) vaccination compared to either Pfizer-BioNtech (BNT162b2) or Moderna (mRNA-1273; 0.15% versus 0.03% versus 0.03% of doses, respectively,P<0.0001). The observed-to-expected ratios for GBS, CVT and seizure following Janssen vaccination were ≥1.5-fold higher than background rates. However, the rate of neurological events after acute SARS-CoV-2 infection was up to 617-fold higher than after COVID vaccination.

INTERPRETATION: Reports of serious neurological events following COVID vaccination are rare. GBS, CVT and seizure may occur at higher than background rates following Janssen vaccination. Despite this, rates of neurological complications following acute SARS-CoV-2 infection are up to 617-fold higher than after COVID vaccination. This article is protected by copyright. 'Purple Dream' eggplant (Solanum melongena) is widely grown for its edible fruits in Malaysia. In July 2021, anthracnose symptoms were observed on fruit with a disease severity of approximately 80% and an incidence of 10% in a field (14.6 m2) (5°56'50.9"N, 116°04'31.9"E) located in the Penampang district of Sabah province. The symptoms initially appeared as irregular light brown spots. As the disease progressed, the spots enlarged and merged into extensive lesion patches that appeared in concentric circles. The symptomatic fruit tissues (5 x 5 mm) were surface sterilized based on Khoo et al. (2022), and plated onto potato dextrose agar (PDA), and incubated at 25°C in the dark. Colonies with gray-white fluffy mycelia developed after 7 days, and the reverse of the colonies was dark brown. A representative isolate named Penampang was characterized morphologically and molecularly. The conidia were one-celled, cylindrical, blunt at the ends, hyaline, smooth, and measured 13.3 to 16.1 x 3.9 to 6.0 µm (n= 20). Appressoria ranged in size from 7.6 to 9.3 m x 5.5 to 6.6 µm (n= 20) and were spherical to irregular in shape and dark brown in colour. Genomic DNA was extracted from fresh mycelia of isolate Penampang based on Khoo et al. (2021) and Khoo et al. (2022). ITS1/ITS4, CL1C/CL2C, ACT-512F/ACT-783R, CHS-79F/CHS-354R, and GDF1/GDR1 primer pairs were used to amplify the isolate's internal transcribed spacer region (ITS), and partial calmodulin (CAL), actin (ACT), chitin synthase (CHS-1), and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase genes (GAPDH) (Weir et al. 2012). PCR products were sequenced by Apical Scientific Sdn. Bhd. (Selangor, Malaysia). Sequences were deposited in GenBank under the accession numbers OL957466 (ITS), OL953035 (CAL), OL953032 (ACT), OL953038 (CHS-1), and OL953041 (GAPDH). They were 99% to 100% identical to the Colletotrichum ti ITS (NR_120143) (515 bp out of 519 bp), and C. siamense CAL (JX009714) (729 bp out of 731 bp), ACT (JX009518) (282 bp out of 282 bp), CHS-1 (JX009865) (299 bp out of 299 bp), and GAPDH (JX009924) (276 bp out of 277 bp) sequences. ITS sequences do not reliably resolve relationships within the C. gloeosporioides complex (Weir et al. 2012). The phylogenetic maximum likelihood analysis using the combined ITS, CAL, ACT, CHS-1, and GAPDH sequences indicated that the isolate was part of the C. siamense clade (100% bootstrap value) that also contained the type isolate ICMP 18578 of this species. Morphological and molecular characterization matched the description of C. siamense (Huang et al. 2021; Ismail et al. 2021). Koch's postulates were performed similarly as described by Chai et al. (2017) but using spray-inoculation (108 spores/ml) of three healthy 'Purple Dream' eggplant fruit with isolate Penampang. Water was sprayed on three additional fruits that served as controls. All the fruits were incubated at 25°C and less than 90% relative humidity. Symptoms similar to those observed in the field developed 5 days after inoculation. No symptoms occurred on controls. The experiment was repeated two more times. The reisolated fungi were identical to the pathogen morphologically and molecularly. To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. siamense causing anthracnose on fruit of 'Purple Dream' S. melongena in Malaysia as well as worldwide. Our findings expand the host range of C. siamense and indicate that the pathogen could potentially limit 'Purple Dream' eggplant production in Malaysia.

Production of watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) in Malaysia was 150,000 mt in 2020 (Malaysian Department of Agriculture, 2021). In November 2019, nine locally produced watermelon fruit (red flesh, seedless) from five local stores in the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Penang exhibited sunken, circular, brown lesions that enlarged to1.5 to 10 cm in diameter with scattered orange masses of conidia. Lesions coalesced to cover approximately 50% of the fruit surface. Lesions were surface sterilized by spraying 70% alcohol onto the fruit followed by drying with sterilized paper towels. A total of 153 tissue segments (1×1 cm) were excised from the rind, immersed in 1% sodium hypochlorite for 3 min, rinsed twice for 1 min in sterilized distilled water, air-dried, transferred to potato dextrose agar (PDA) plates, and incubated at 25±1°C for 7 days. Single-spore transfers produced pure cultures, resulting in 12 isolates. Colonies on PDA were initially white and turned pale gray with age. Conidia were hyaline, one end round and the other narrowly acute, aseptate, smooth-walled, straight, cylindrical to clavate, 10.5-16.5 µm × 3-4.5 μm (n = 30). Observed morphological characters matched published description of Colletotrichum spp. (Damm et al. 2012). Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and glyceraldehyde-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) genes were amplified using primer sets ITS1/ITS4 and GDF1/GDF2, respectively. All sequences were deposited in GenBank (MW856808 for ITS; MZ219296 for GAPDH). A BLASTn search of both sequences on GenBank showed 99% identity with C. scovillei along with other closely related Colletotrichum species. Phylogenetic analysis of ITS and GAPDH alignments, using maximum likelihood along with reference strains of closely related species from Mycobank, confirmed species identity as C. scovillei. A pathogenicity test was conducted on two healthy watermelon fruit (red flesh, seedless). A 6-mm-diameter mycelial plug of a colony on PDA was positioned on a 0.5-cm-long wound on each fruit; a sterile PDA plug placed on a similar wound on the opposite side served as a control. Fruit were incubated at 25±1°C for 7 days in plastic-wrapped trays above distilled water to maintain high humidity. Small, sunken, circular brown lesions appeared and expanded at inoculation sites within 7 days. Symptoms were identical to those produced by natural infections, and the controls were asymptomatic. Isolates from the lesions at the inoculation sites were confirmed as C. scovillei based on morphological characteristics, fulfilling Koch's postulates. The pathogenicity test was conducted four times with a total of eight fruit. Many species in the C. orbiculare complex cause watermelon anthracnose (Keinath, 2018). To our knowledge, this is the first report of C. scovillei (C. acutatum species complex; Damm et al. 2012) causing anthracnose on watermelon in Malaysia. Anthracnose caused by C. scovillei has been confirmed on other crops such as pepper (Toporek and Keinath, 2021), banana (Zhou et al., 2017), and chili (Oo et al., 2017). This insight will inform efforts to improve management of watermelon anthracnose in Malaysia.

Polyalthia longifolia is known for its anti-oxidative properties, which might contribute to the antiaging action. Hence, the current research was conducted to evaluate the antiaging activity of P. longifolia leaf methanolic extract (PLME) in a yeast model based on morphology using microscopic approaches. Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY611 strain yeast cells were treated with 1.00 mg/mL of PLME. The antiaging activity was assessed by determining the replicative lifespan, total lifespan, vacuole morphology by light microscopy, extra-morphology by scanning (SEM), and intra-morphology by transmission (TEM) electron microscopy. The findings demonstrated that PLME treatment significantly accelerated the replicative and total lifespan of the yeast cells. PLME treatment also delays the formation of large apoptotic-like type 3 yeast cell vacuoles. The untreated yeast cells demonstrated aging morphology via SEM analysis, such as shrinking, regional invaginations, and wrinkled cell surface. The TEM analysis revealed the quintessential aging intracellular morphology such as swollen, wrinkled, or damaged vacuole formation of the circular endoplasmic reticulum, a rupture in the nuclear membrane, fragmentation of the nucleus, and complete damaged cytoplasm. Decisively, the present study revealed the vital role of PLME in the induction of antiaging activity in a yeast model using three microscopic approaches—SEM, TEM, and bright-field light microscope.

Exercise addiction (EA) has been described as a condition of psychological dysfunction characterized by excessive and obsessive exercise patterns, show withdrawal symptoms when unable to exercise, and experience numerous conflicts and other negative consequences in their social and professional lives, due to the extremely high volumes of exercise. The main objective of the present study was to assess the risk of exercise addiction among a Saudi Arabian sample of regular exercisers and to investigate possible associations between their inability to exercise during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown (due to the closure of public gyms, swimming pools, and health clubs) and depression, anxiety, and loneliness. A total of 388 regular-exercising Saudis participated in an online cross-sectional survey over three months (December to February 2021). The study sample comprised 89.9% (males) and 10.1% (females), with a mean age of 28.59 years (SD ± 6.69). A 36-item online self-report survey was used for data collection. The prevalence of being at risk of exercise addiction among participants of the present study was 13.1%. Positive significant associations were noted between risk of exercise addiction and depression (r = .41; p

Active transport (walking and biking) has significant environmental, health, and social benefits. Despite the importance of active transport, theoretically framed research has not sufficiently considered what makes consumers walk or bike based on activity types, particularly in an Asian context. This is an important topic as it helps provides a basis for better targeted marketing and promotion to encourage greater public engagement with active transport. To fill this knowledge gap, this work applied the value-attitude-behavior (VAB) theory to understand walkers and bikers' behaviors in comparing tourism, leisure, and work activity. Results indicate that value on attitude has the greatest influence, followed by personal, and then social norm. Behavior for active transport is significantly influenced by personal norm, followed by attitude and social norm. Interestingly, from the three types of activities, the tourism group has the strongest relationship of value and attitude and the highest prediction for attitude and behavior.

The use of untwisting rate as a novel index of LV diastolic function in clinical practice has been limited due to its tedious and time-consuming analysis. Therefore, we simplify the untwist measurement by only measuring the LV apex's recoil rate and validating and applying peak apical recoil rate (PARR) as an index of diastolic dysfunction (DD) in pediatric subjects during increased and decreased lusitropic states. We recruited 153 healthy subjects (mean age 13.8 ± 2.9 years), of whom 48 performed straight leg raising exercise and an additional 46 patients (mean 8.4 ± 5.6 years) with documented pulmonary capillary wedge pressures (PCWP) (validation cohort). In addition, we studied 16 dilated cardiomyopathy patients (mean age 9.5 ± 6.3 years) (application cohort). PARR and isovolumic relaxation time (IVRT) were compared to PCWP. Both PARR and PARR normalized by heart rate (nPARR) were excellent in detecting patients with PCWP ≥ 12 mmHg and greatly superior to IVRT in this respect (AUC: 0.98, 95% CI [0.96, 1.0] vs. AUC: 0.7 95%CI [0.54,0.86]). In DCM patients, PARR and nPARR were greatly decreased compared to controls (- 38.6 ± 18.6º/s vs - 63.1 ± 16.3º /s, p

Molecular methods are necessary to detect low-density malaria infections. The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic performance of six malachite-green loop-mediated amplification method (MG-LAMP) assays (MG-LAMP-Pf, MG-LAMP-Pv, MG-LAMP-Po, MG-LAMP-Pm, MG-LAMP-Pk, and MG-LAMP-Pspp) for the species-specific detection of each human Plasmodium, including P. knowlesi, and the Plasmodium genus compared with the nested-multiplex malaria polymerase chain reaction (NM-PCR), using 161 malaria-positive and 274 malaria-negative samples. MG-LAMP-Pspp assay detected the five human Plasmodium species and each species-specific MG-LAMP assay detected only its corresponding species. Sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of MG-LAMP assays, compared with NM-PCR, were > 90%, except in the case of the MG-LAMP-Pm assay, which dropped to 47%. Limit of detection for MG-LAMP-Pspp assay ranged from 0.1 parasites/µL for P. falciparum to 16.9 parasites/µL for P. malariae samples, and it was similar for the rest of MG-LAMP assays except for the MG-LAMP-Pm assay. Turnaround time was estimated to be 2 hours and 35 minutes for one MG-LAMP assay and 4 hours and 15 minutes if all species-specific MG-LAMP is set up, whereas for the NM-PCR, turnaround time was ∼6 hours and 15 minutes. Costs per determination ranged from 1 to 6 euros for MG-LAMP assays and 5 euros for NM-PCR. Therefore, MG-LAMP assays appear to have good concordance compared with the reference method, except for the MG-LAMP-Pm assay. They can detect low parasitemia and identify malaria species, with lower costs and shorter time to obtain results, and they are suitable tools to be used in endemic and non-endemic countries for malaria detection.

Native emergent and floating plants; local reed grass (Phragmites karka) and water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), respectively, were used to treat textile wastewater using an integrated emergent-floating planted reactor (IEFPR) system at hydraulic retention times (HRTs) of 8, 14, and 19 days. Real textile effluent having characteristics of 1686.3 ADMI for colour, 535 mg/L for total suspended solid (TSS), 647.7 mg/L for chemical oxygen demand (COD) and 124 mg/L for biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) was used throughout this study. The IEFPR system experienced maximum removal of colour (94.8%, HRT 14 days, day 3), TSS (92.7%, HRT 19 days, day 7), and COD (96.6%, HRT 8 days, day 5) at different HRT and exposure time. The process conditions (HRT and exposure time) were optimized for maximum colour, TSS and COD removal from textile effluent by employing response surface methodology (RSM). The optimization has resulted 100% removal of colour, 87% removal of TSS and 100% removal of COD at HRT of 8 days and exposure time of 5 days, with 0.984 desirability. The integrated plant-assisted treatment system showed reliable performance in treating textile wastewater at optimum operational conditions to improve effluent quality before disposal into water bodies or being recycled into the process. The potential of phytoremediator (produced plant biomass) to be utilized as resources for bioenergy or to be converted into value added products (adsorbent or biochar) provides an alternative to management strategy for better environmental sustainability.

Ixora chinensis (family Rubiaceae), locally known as 'Bunga Jejarum', is widely grown as an ornamental shrub and as sources for phytochemicals with medicinal properties in Malaysia. In May 2021, irregular brown spots were found on the leaves of some 'Bunga Jejarum' in Universiti Malaysia Sabah (6°02'01.0"N 116°07'20.2"E) located in Sabah province. As the disease progressed, the spots enlarged and coalesced into large necrotic areas giving rise to drying of infected leaves. The disease severity was about 70% with 20% incidence. Five symptomatic leaves (5 x 5 mm) from five plants were excised and sterilized based on Khoo et al. (2022) before plated on five potato dextrose agar (PDA) and cultured at 25°C. After 5 days, white to pale honey and dense mycelia with lobate edge were observed on all PDA plates. Globose, black conidiomata semi-immersed on PDA were observed after a week. Two to four hyaline filamentous appendages 7.7 to 17.6 μm long attached to fusoid conidia (11.8 to 20.9 x 5.7 to 7.6 μm, n = 20), which consisted of a hyaline apical cell, basal cell, and three versicolored median cells. The upper two median cells were dark brown, while the lowest median cell was pale brown. The isolate of the causal pathogen was characterized molecularly. Genomic DNA of isolate UMS01 was extracted based on Khoo et al. (2021) and Khoo et al. (2022). Amplification of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), tubulin (TUB) and translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF) region was performed based on Khoo et al. (2022) using primers ITS1/ITS4 (White et al. 1990), T1/Bt2b (Glass and Donaldson, 1995; O'Donnell and Cigelnik, 1997) and EF1-728/EF2 (O'Donnell et al. 1998; Carbone and Kohn, 1999), respectively. PCR products with positive amplicons were sent to Apical Scientific Sdn. Bhd. for sequencing. The isolate's sequences were deposited in GenBank as OM320626 (ITS), OM339539 (TUB) and OM339540 (TEF). They were 99% to 100% identical to ITS(KM199347) (545 out of 545 bp), TUB (KM199438) (768 out of 769 bp) and TEF (KM199521) (480 out of 481 bp) of the type sequences (CBS 600.96). Phylogenetic analysis using the maximum likelihood method based on the combined ITS, TEF and TUB sequences placed the isolate UMS01 in the same clade as the isolate CBS 600.96 of Neopestalotiopsis cubana. Thus, the pathogen was identified as N. cubanabased on the morphological description from Pornsuriya et al. (2020), molecular data in Genbank database and multigene sequence analysis. To further confirm its pathogenicity, the first and second leaves of three 'Bunga Jejarum' plants were inoculated by pipetting 1 ml aliquots of a 1 × 106 conidia/ml spore suspension. Three additional 'Bunga Jejarum' plants were mock inoculated by pipetting 1 ml of sterile distilled water on similar age leaves. The plants were covered with plastic bags after inoculation for 48 h before placing them in a glasshouse under room temperature. The leaves were sprayed with water to keep the leaf surfaces moist along the experiment. The incubation and disease observation were performed based on Chai et al. (2017) and Iftikhar et al. (2022). After 7 days post-inoculation, all infected leaves exhibited the symptoms observed in the field, whereas the controls showed no symptoms. The same fungus was isolated from the diseased leaves and, thus confirmed Koch's postulates. The experiment was repeated two more times. The reisolated fungi were visually and genetically identical to the original isolate obtained from the field samples. To our knowledge, this is the first report of N. cubana causing leaf blight on 'Bunga Jejarum' in Malaysia, as well as the world. Our finding has broadened the distribution and host range of N. cubana, indicating that it poses potential damage to the medicinal plant Bunga Jejarum in Malaysia.

The extensive growth of energy and plastic demand has raised concerns over the depletion of fossil fuels. Moreover, the environmental conundrums worldwide integrated with global warming and improper plastic waste management have led to the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly biofuel (bioethanol) and biopolymer (lactic acid, LA) derived from biomass for fossil fuels replacement and biodegradable plastic production, respectively. However, the high production cost of bioethanol and LA had limited its industrial-scale production. This paper has comprehensively reviewed the potential and development of third-generation feedstock for bioethanol and LA production, including significant technological barriers to be overcome for potential commercialization purposes. Then, an insight into the state-of-the-art hydrolysis and fermentation technologies using macroalgae as feedstock is also deliberated in detail. Lastly, the sustainability aspect and perspective of macroalgae biomass are evaluated economically and environmentally using a developed cascading system associated with techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment, which represent the highlights of this review paper. Furthermore, this review provides a conceivable picture of macroalgae-based bioethanol and lactic acid biorefinery and future research directions that can be served as an important guideline for scientists, policymakers, and industrial players.

Governments around the world have issued movement restrictions and quarantines to combat the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) pandemic. However, the Swedish government has not implemented such measures but has depended on individual responsibility. The extent to which individuals have been encouraged to trust in and be satisfied with government strategies and adopt personal health measures, such as social isolation, remains unclear. This study examines the direct effects of trust in the government and risk perception on self-efficacy. Most importantly, this study intends to explore whether satisfaction with government measures strengthens the relationships between 1) trust in the government and self-efficacy and 2) risk perception and self-efficacy. We test our suggested hypotheses using survey data obtained from 403 Swedish citizens living in Sweden. As predicted, the findings indicate that trust in the government and risk perception positively impact individual self-efficacy. Additionally, the findings reveal that satisfaction with government measures strengthens these relationships; more precisely, the impact of trust in the government and risk perception under a high level of individual satisfaction with government measures is much more positive than that under a low satisfaction level. In practice, a focus on implementing successful policies and excellent individual self-efficacy is required to halt the pandemic, and the findings indicate that combining strictly attentive and adaptive individual strategies with government strategies can minimize the spread of infection.

Healthcare resource utilization for Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) in Malaysia needs to be clarified. This modified Delphi panel study aimed to describe the clinical pathways for diabetic foot ulcer in Malaysia and to define the healthcare resources used and their costs. A systematic review of the literature was carried out on the management of diabetic foot ulcer in Malaysia. A modified Delphi panel involving 7 local experts was organized to validate the statements, in order to arrive at a consensus on the resources used for the treatment of DFU patients in Malaysia and their costs. A Markov model was then used to estimate the financial burden of DFU patients in Malaysia. The total cost per patient per annum was MYR 5981 in public and MYR 8581 in private setting. In the public setting, outpatient visits costs represent 50% of the overall cost, followed by medical devices which represent 38% of total costs. In the private setting, as in the public, outpatient visits and devices contribute the most to overall costs with 51% and 21%, respectively. However, hospital inpatient costs are higher in private setting and represent 14% of the total costs versus 5% in public setting. These findings may prove useful for clinicians and decision makers in understanding the economic implications of managing DFUs in Malaysia and the need for innovative therapies to reduce the burden for patients but also for the society.

This study proposes a unified theoretical model to integrate the full spectrum of Self-Determination Theory, self-efficacy, and the Technology Acceptance Model in understanding the acceptance of technology enhanced learning among university students during the Covid-19 pandemic. In the proposed theoretical model, 7 hypotheses were tested to understand the acceptance of technology enhanced learning. A total of 303 university students participated in this study. The Heterotrait-Monotrait (HTMT) ratio of correlation was applied to measure Discriminant Validity for the Covariance-Based Structural Equation Model. Based on the results, the unified theoretical model provided better insight to understanding acceptance of technology enhanced learning (R2 = .71). Intrinsic motivation (IM), amotivation, motivation, and technology enhanced self-efficacy (TELSE) were identified as significant determinants of students' perceived ease of use (PEU). Amotivation, motivation and TELSE were significant determinants of students' perceived usefulness (PU) towards technology enhanced learning. During the Covid-19 pandemic, students had internalised external regulation and identified regulation. The empirical results also revealed that the relationship between amotivation and PEU were moderated by gender. Gender also played a role in moderating the effects of amotivation and motivation relationships towards PU. However, the relationships between IM and motivation toward PEU and TELSE to PU were vulnerable towards the moderating effects of gender and students' field of study. In conclusion, students' view on technology acceptance have changed since the pandemic, therefore, their participation in design, development, and implementation of learning resources is much needed than before to improve their psychological motivation.

OBJECTIVE: This study translated/cross-culturally adapted the Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI) for temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) into Malay and psychometrically tested the Malay-FAI (FAI-M).

METHODS: The FAI-M was created according to international guidelines. Internal consistency/test-retest reliability were assessed with Cronbach's alpha/intra-class correlation (ICC) coefficients. Construct and convergent validity were appraised by relating the FAI-M to the Global Oral Health (GOH) questionnaire and Short-form Oral Health Impact Profile (S-OHIP) using Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman's rho correlation (α = 0.05).

RESULTS: Of the 243 participants enrolled, 54.7% (n = 133) had no TMDs, while TMDs were present in 45.3% (n = 110). The FAI-M presented very good internal consistency (α = 0.90) and test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.99). Theoretically predicted FAI-M score patterns matched the GOH categories, and strong correlations were discerned between FAI-M and S-OHIP (rs = 0.71).

CONCLUSION: The FAI-M exhibited good psychometric properties and can be applied in Malay-speaking populations.
