    INTRODUCTION: Medical images and signals are important data sources in the medical field, and they contain key information such as patients' physiology, pathology, and genetics. However, due to the complexity and diversity of medical images and signals, resulting in difficulties in medical knowledge acquisition and decision support.

    METHODS: In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes an end-to-end framework based on BERT for NER and RE tasks in electronic medical records. Our framework first integrates NER and RE tasks into a unified model, adopting an end-to-end processing manner, which removes the limitation and error propagation of multiple independent steps in traditional methods. Second, by pre-training and fine-tuning the BERT model on large-scale electronic medical record data, we enable the model to obtain rich semantic representation capabilities that adapt to the needs of medical fields and tasks. Finally, through multi-task learning, we enable the model to make full use of the correlation and complementarity between NER and RE tasks, and improve the generalization ability and effect of the model on different data sets.

    RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: We conduct experimental evaluation on four electronic medical record datasets, and the model significantly out performs other methods on different datasets in the NER task. In the RE task, the EMLB model also achieved advantages on different data sets, especially in the multi-task learning mode, its performance has been significantly improved, and the ETE and MTL modules performed well in terms of comprehensive precision and recall. Our research provides an innovative solution for medical image and signal data.

    BACKGROUND: Despite a strong international standpoint against female genital mutilation, the prevalence of female genital mutilation in Somalia is extremely high.

    OBJECTIVES: This study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice of female genital mutilation among female health care service providers in order to formulate appropriate policies and programs to eliminate this harmful practice.

    DESIGN: Facility-based cross-sectional survey conducted in 2019 among female doctors and nurses working in Banadir Hospital, Mogadishu, Somalia.

    METHODS: A total of 144 female health care service providers were randomly selected, and data were collected through a pre-tested, semi-structured questionnaire. Quantitative data were analyzed by using the statistical software SPSS (Version 21), and qualitative data were analyzed thematically in accordance with the objectives of the study.

    RESULTS: The study found that about three-fifths of the respondents had undergone some forms of female genital mutilation during their life. An overwhelming majority believed that female genital mutilation practices were medically harmful, and a majority of them expressed their opinion against the medicalization of the practice of female genital mutilation. The study also observed a significant association between participants' age and their negative attitudes regarding the legalization of female genital mutilation.

    CONCLUSION: Health care service providers' effort is critical to eliminating this harmful practice from the Somalian society. Strong policy commitment and a comprehensive health-promotion effort targeting the parents and community leaders are essential to avert the negative impact of female genital mutilation.

    The current study uses data surveyed with 2,500 respondents during August and September 2021 in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia to examine the willingness to get vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 virus with six COVID-19 vaccines. The willingness to get vaccinated varies according to the vaccine brands and selected influential factors. Particularly, the percentage of respondents who are willing to get vaccinated with Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca dominates that of those who are willing to get vaccinated with Sinopharm, Janssen and Sputnik V vaccines. Results generated from the binary logistic regressions show that the impact of the selected influential factors on the willingness to get vaccinated varies in terms of magnitude and direction, and depending on the vaccine brands. The results indicate that additional scientific evidence on the efficacy and safety of the vaccines is essential for the respondents to decide whether to vaccinate or not. Such evidence can be made available in multiple formats and provided through appropriate channels and vaccination communication campaigns.

    OBJECTIVE: To construct a national fetal growth chart using retrospective data and compared its diagnostic accuracy in predicting SGA at birth with existing international growth charts.

    METHOD: This is a retrospective study where datasets from May 2011 to Apr 2020 were extracted to construct the fetal growth chart using the Lambda-Mu-Sigma method. SGA is defined as birth weight <10th centile. The local growth chart's diagnostic accuracy in detecting SGA at birth was evaluated using datasets from May 2020 to Apr 2021 and was compared with the WHO, Hadlock, and INTERGROWTH-21st charts. Balanced accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity were reported.

    RESULTS: A total of 68,897 scans were collected and five biometric growth charts were constructed. Our national growth chart achieved an accuracy of 69% and a sensitivity of 42% in identifying SGA at birth. The WHO chart showed similar diagnostic performance as our national growth chart, followed by the Hadlock (67% accuracy and 38% sensitivity) and INTERGROWTH-21st (57% accuracy and 19% sensitivity). The specificities for all charts were 95-96%. All growth charts showed higher accuracy in the third trimester, with an improvement of 8-16%, as compared to that in the second trimester.

    CONCLUSION: Using the Hadlock and INTERGROWTH-21st chart in the Malaysian population may results in misdiagnose of SGA. Our population local chart has slightly higher accuracy in predicting preterm SGA in the second trimester which can enable earlier intervention for babies who are detected as SGA. All growth charts' diagnostic accuracies were poor in the second trimester, suggesting the need of improvising alternative techniques for early detection of SGA to improve fetus outcomes.

    BACKGROUND: Early screening may prevent fibrosis progression in metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD).

    AIMS: We developed and validated MAFLD fibrosis score (MFS) for identifying advanced fibrosis (≥F3) among MAFLD patients.

    METHODS: This cross-sectional, multicentre study consecutively recruited MAFLD patients receiving tertiary care (Malaysia as training cohort [n = 276] and Hong Kong and Wenzhou as validation cohort [n = 431]). Patients completed liver biopsy, vibration-controlled transient elastography (VCTE), and clinical and laboratory assessment within 1 week. We used machine learning to select 'highly important' predictors of advanced fibrosis, followed by backward stepwise regression to construct MFS formula.

    RESULTS: MFS was composed of seven variables: age, body mass index, international normalised ratio, aspartate aminotransferase, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, platelet count, and history of type 2 diabetes. MFS demonstrated an area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve of 0.848 [95% CI 0.800-898] and 0.823 [0.760-0.886] in training and validation cohorts, significantly higher than aminotransferase-to-platelet ratio index (0.684 [0.603-0.765], 0.663 [0.588-0.738]), Fibrosis-4 index (0.793 [0.735-0.854], 0.737 [0.660-0.814]), and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease fibrosis score (0.785 [0.731-0.844], 0.750 [0.674-0.827]) (DeLong's test p

    BACKGROUND: Epilepsy and intraventricular-cerebral hemorrhage is a common complication irreversible in preterm infants. Inflammation leads to an increase in intracellular calcium, acidosis, and oxygen usage, and finally, may damage brain cells. Increases in HIF-1a and HVCN1 can reduce the complications of oxygen consumption and acidosis in infants with intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). On the other hand, decreases in S100B can shield nerve cells from apoptosis and epilepsy by reducing brain damage.

    OBJECTIVE: In this research, we investigated how miR-138-siRNAs-HIF-1a and miR-21-siRNAs-HVCN1 affect apoptosis in hypoxic mice.

    METHODS: On the first and third days after delivery, the YKL40, HIF-1a, HVCN1, and S100b genes were compared between two groups of preterm infants with and without maternal inflammation. Afterward, the miRNAs were transfected into cell lines to monitor variations in YKL40, HIF-1a, HVCN1, and S100b gene expression and nerve cell apoptosis. We changed the expression of S100b, HVCN1, and HIF-1a genes by using specific siRNAs injected into mice. Using real-time PCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry (FCM), and immunofluorescence, and changes in gene expression were evaluated (IHC).

    RESULTS: HVCN1 gene expression showed a strong negative correlation with epilepsy in both groups of infants (P<0.001). Significant correlations between epilepsy and the expression levels of the S100b, YKL40, and HIF-1a genes were found (P<0.001). According to FCM, after transfecting miRNA-431 and miRNA-34a into cell lines, the apoptosis index (A.I.) were 41.6 3.3 and 34.5 5.2%, respectively, while the A.I. were 9.6 2.7 and 7.1 4.2% after transfecting miRNA-21 and miRNA-138. MiR-138-siRNAs-HIF-1a and miR-21-siRNAs-HVCN1 were simultaneously injected into hypoxic mice, and IHC double-labeling revealed that this reduced apoptosis and seizures compared to the hypoxic group.

    CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrate that miR-138-siRNAs-HIF-1a and miR-21-siRNAs-HVCN1 injections prevent cerebral ischemia-induced brain damage in hypoxia mice by increasing HVCN1 and HIF-1a and decreasing S100b, which in turn lessens apoptosis and epilepsy in hypoxic mice.

    Resistance to antimalarial drugs is a serious issue around the world. Widespread Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum coinfections are commonly found in Thailand. Dihydroartemisinin and piperaquine (DHA-PPQ) have been used as first-line treatments for P. falciparum since 2015, and chloroquine (CQ) and primaquine (PQ) have remained first-line drugs for P. vivax for more than 60 years. Coinfections may lead parasites to evolve with regard to genetics under selective drug pressure. This study is aimed at investigating genes linked to antimalarial resistance in P. vivax before and after introduction of DHA-PPQ as a new drug regimen in Thailand. A total of 400 P. vivax isolates were collected from samples along the Thai-Myanmar and Thai-Malaysian borders before (2009-2015) and after (2016-2019) introduction of DHA-PPQ. Genomic DNA of P. vivax was obtained and subjected to analysis of five drug resistance-associated genes (Pvdhfr, Pvdhps, Pvmdr1, Pvcrt-o, and PvK12) by nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR), restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), and nucleotide sequencing. A high prevalence of Pvdhfr was found in both endemic areas over the period. The quadruple (57I/58R/61M/117T) Pvdhfr haplotype was predominant in both periods in both endemic areas. Although the wild-type haplotype of Pvdhps was predominant in Thai-Malaysian isolates in both periods, a single mutant haplotype (383G) was dominant in Thai-Myanmar isolates during both periods. A low prevalence of the Pvmdr1 976F mutation was found in both periods among Thai-Myanmar isolates. A significant decrease in Pvmdr1 976F was identified in Thai-Malaysian isolates from the second period (p < 0.01). Only one nonsynonymous mutation of Pvcrt-o (193E) and one synonymous mutation of PvK12 (R584) were detected in four isolates (4.7%) and one isolate (0.5%) in the first period among Thai-Myanmar isolates, respectively. Thus, with limited clinical efficacy data, the low prevalence of drug-resistance markers may suggest that there is a low prevalence of P. vivax-resistant strains and that the current drug regimen for P. vivax is still effective for treating this P. vivax parasite population. Continued surveillance of antimalarial drug resistance markers and monitoring of clinical drug efficacy should be conducted for epidemiological and policy implications.

    AIMS: To determine axial length (AL) elongation profiles in children aged 3-6 years in an Asian population.

    METHODS: Eligible subjects were recruited from the Growing Up in Singapore Towards Healthy Outcomes birth cohort. AL measurement was performed using IOLMaster (Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany) at 3 and 6 years. Anthropometric measurements at birth, cycloplegic refraction at 3 and 6 years, questionnaires on the children's behavioural habits at 2 years and parental spherical equivalent refraction were performed. Multivariable linear regression model with generalised estimating equation was performed to determine factors associated with AL elongation.

    RESULTS: 273 eyes of 194 children were included. The mean AL increased from 21.72±0.59 mm at 3 years to 22.52±0.66 mm at 6 years (p<0.001). Myopic eyes at 6 years had greater AL elongation (1.02±0.34 mm) compared with emmetropic eyes (0.85±0.25 mm, p=0.008) and hyperopic eyes (0.74±0.16 mm, p<0.001). The 95th percentile limit of AL elongation was 1.59 mm in myopes, 1.34 mm in emmetropes and 1.00 mm in hyperopes. Greater birth weight (per 100 g, β=0.010, p=0.02) was significantly associated with greater AL elongation from 3 to 6 years, while parental and other behavioural factors assessed at 2 years were not (all p≥0.08).

    CONCLUSION: In this preschool cohort, AL elongates at an average length of 0.80 mm from 3 to 6 years, with myopes demonstrating the greatest elongation. The differences in 95th percentile limits for AL elongation between myopes, emmetropes and hyperopes can be valuable information in identifying myopia development in preschool children.

    Epoxides were primarily derived from petroleum-based sources. However, there has been limited research on optimizing the process parameters for epoxidized palm oil-derived oleic acid, resulting in its underutilization. Therefore, this study aimed to optimize the catalytic epoxidation of palm oleic acid concerning the oxirane content by applying ion exchange resin as a catalyst. Epoxidized oleic acid was produced using in-situ-formed performic acid by combining formic acid as the oxygen carrier with hydrogen peroxide as the oxygen donor. The findings revealed that the optimal reaction conditions for producing epoxidized oleic acid with the highest oxirane content were an Amberlite IR-120 catalyst loading of 0.9 g, a molar ratio of formic acid to oleic acid of 1:1., and a molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to oleic acid of 1:1.1. By employing these optimal conditions, the maximum relative conversion of palm oleic acid to oxirane was achieved at 85%. The reaction rate constants (k) based on the optimized epoxidized oleic acid are determined as follows: k11 = 20 mol L-1 min-1, k12 = 2 mol L-1 min-1, and k2 = 20 mol L-1 min-1. The findings validated the kinetic model by showing good agreement between the simulation and experimental data.

    BACKGROUND: The prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) has been increasing in recent years, especially in Asia. There is growing evidence to suggest the importance of dietary patterns in the development and management of AD. Here, we seek to understand how certain dietary patterns in a Singapore/Malaysia population are associated with various risks of AD development and exacerbation.

    METHODS: A standardized questionnaire following the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) guidelines was investigator-administered to a clinically and epidemiology well-defined allergic cohort of 13,561 young Chinese adults aged 19-22. Information on their sociodemographic, lifestyle, dietary habits, and personal and family medical atopic histories were obtained. Allergic sensitization was assessed by a skin prick test to mite allergens. Spearman's rank-order correlation was used to assess the correlation between the intake frequencies of 16 food types. Dietary patterns were identified using principal component analysis. Four corresponding dietary scores were derived to examine the association of identified dietary patterns with allergic sensitization and AD exacerbations through a multivariable logistic regression that controlled for age, gender, parental eczema, BMI, and lifestyle factors.

    RESULTS: The correlation is the strongest between the intake of butter and margarine (R = 0.65). We identified four dietary patterns, "high-calorie foods", "plant-based foods", "meat and rice", and "probiotics, milk and eggs", and these accounted for 47.4% of the variance in the dietary habits among the subjects.     BACKGROUND: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) poses a significant public health challenge. CKD patients have compromised renal function, which not only alters the pharmacokinetics of drugs but also their pharmacodynamics. Adjusting drug doses for these patients is essential to achieve the intended clinical outcomes, prevent adverse drug events, and halt further progression of the disease. Pharmacists play a pivotal role in ensuring safe and appropriate therapy for CKD patients. However, there is a noticeable absence of national dosing guidelines for CKD in Pakistan, coupled with a scarcity of studies exploring the knowledge, attitude, and perception of renal dose adjustments in the country. This study aimed to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions of pharmacists in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and Islamabad regarding renal dose adjustments.

    METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study was conducted to gauge the knowledge, attitude, and perception of pharmacists working in various cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the capital city, Islamabad, from February to May 2023. The Renal Dosing Questionnaire-13 (RDQ-13) scale was employed for this purpose.     BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a short-term, low dose, weight-based subcutaneous enoxaparin protocol (SEP) in maintaining the patency of arteriovenous (AV) access with recurrent thrombosis.

    METHODS: Prospective follow-up of 25 patients who presented to a tertiary institution with recurrent AV access thrombosis and treated with anticoagulation according to SEP following successful thrombectomy. Patency and safety outcomes of SEP were studied.

    RESULTS: The participants were 66.4 ± 10.2 years old and predominantly male (60%) and of Chinese ethnicity (72%). The AV accesses had a median age of 1.4 (0.6, 5.6) years with 60% being non-autogenous arteriovenous access while 40% were autogenous arteriovenous access. Thrombolytic agents (urokinase (72%) or alteplase (28%)) were used in all procedures while adjunct thrombectomy device was used in only four procedures. The mean dose of enoxaparin was 36.0 ± 8.2 mg or 0.64 ± 0.1 mg/kg/day for a mean duration 30.0 days (Interquartile range: 27.5, 31.0). One patient developed minor bleeding episode.     Non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION) is the most common cause of optic neuropathy in older adults and is usually associated with an altitudinal visual field defect. Binasal hemianopia is a rare visual field presentation, and most causes are due to ocular pathology instead of brain pathology. It is an infrequent finding in NAION. We report a rare presentation of binasal hemianopia visual field defect in a patient with NAION. This a case of an elderly lady with underlying uncontrolled type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia who presented with a sudden onset of painless blurring of vision in the left eye. She had a similar episode of blurred vision involving the other eye two years ago. Her visual acuity was reduced in both eyes. Humphrey visual field showed a binasal field defect. Fundoscopy showed mild hyperemic optic disc swelling in the left eye and a pale disc in the right eye. The CT scan and MRI were normal. She was co-managed with the medical team to control her systemic risk factors. Although NAION is the most common cause of optic neuropathy in older adults, binasal hemianopia is a rare visual field presentation in NAION. The history and assessment from this case add important information toward diagnosing NAION.

    BACKGROUND: Higher education institutions are adapting and innovating like never before to provide highly individualized learning environments for both traditional and non-traditional students. This seismic upheaval in the higher education landscape is being observed across the world. The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a blended learning approach on nursing students' self-directed learning readiness.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is a quasi-experimental approach in which a non-equivalent control group was used in a post-test design. A comparison was carried out with two separate semester cohort students representing the control and intervention groups which had 24 and 30 students, respectively. This study included first-year nursing students that enrolled in a course called "Anatomy and Physiology" course of nursing education at a private university. The control group received all their teaching face-to-face, and the intervention group used information technology and prescribed activities in their online e-book. The self-directed learning readiness (SDLR) tool measures the learners' readiness in self-directed learning in both groups. This scale comprises three subscales which are "self-management," "desire for learning," and "self-control." An independent-samples t-test was conducted to compare self-directed learning readiness in the control and intervention groups. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 software to measure the independent t-test.

    RESULTS: The self-directed readiness scores were significantly higher in the intervention group with P = 0.019. The intervention group showed a higher mean value on the subscales of self-management and self-control, which demonstrated a significant difference with P values of 0.018 and 0.028, respectively. The subscale desire for learning was insignificant with a P value of 0.166.

    CONCLUSION: This study concluded that the overall results demonstrate that incorporating blended learning using e-books for anatomy and physiology courses in nursing education can contribute to students' readiness for self-directed learning. Specifically, the blended learning teaching and learning strategy had a positive impact on nursing students' capacity for self-management and self-control.

    BACKGROUND: Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in Malaysia, with many diagnosed at late stages. The "Know Your Lemons" (KYL) visual educational tools were developed by KYL Foundation. This study aimed to evaluate participants' confidence levels and perceived knowledge in identifying BC symptoms before and after exposure to KYL tools.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out among 788 participants in three KYL health campaigns from 2017 to 2020. Perceived knowledge (a 5-item Likert scale was used, zero means "very poor" and 4 means "excellent knowledge") and confidence in identifying BC symptoms were studied. A Wilcoxon Matched-Paired Signed-Rank Test was performed to assess the perceived knowledge.

    RESULTS: There was a significant improvement in the perceived knowledge Mean (±SD) score (2.84 ± 1.02) versus (4.31 ± 0.66) before and after the campaign (P < 0.01). About 95.6% agreed that the language used in KYL materials was clear and understandable, 89.8% agreed it is acceptable in Malaysian culture, and 80% felt more confident in identifying BC symptoms. Therefore, 90.8% had the intention of breast self-examination and 90.8% would consult a doctor if symptomatic. The majority (92.7%) agreed that the KYL tools clarified the BC tests needed.

    CONCLUSION: The KYL tools enhanced perceived BC symptom recognition knowledge and confidence levels.

    This study examines the impact of the barrier of adopting hybrid strategy on strategic performance using the oil sector in Iraq as a case. International oil companies consider various strategies in order to achieve superior performance. The procedure needs to overcome certain essential barriers for the adoption of the hybrid strategy that combines the cost leadership and differentiation strategy. The questionnaire was distributed online due to the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the closure of companies in the country. Out of the 537 questionnaires answered, 483 were used for further analysis which yielded usable response rate of 90%. The structural equation modeling results confirmed that the high costs of technologies, the priority of other external matters, inadequate industry regulation, insufficient supply, organizational capabilities, strategic capabilities, and financial capabilities are significantly related to strategic performance. The researchers recommend conducting an in-depth study of the phenomenon based on theoretical and empirical foundations, especially considering the relationship between the barriers of a hybrid strategy and strategic performance based on linear and non-compensatory relationships. This research sheds light on the barriers to adopting the hybrid strategy required by the oil sector as it relies on continuous production.

    BACKGROUND: Little is known about antioxidant efficacy of topical vitamin E on atopic dermatitis (AD) due to lack of controlled clinical studies.

    AIM: The study evaluates the effectiveness and safety of a topical moisturizer containing tocotrienol-rich composition over 12 weeks on patients aged between 1 month and 12 years with mild to moderate AD.

    METHODS: We conducted a 12 weeks, prospective, open-label clinical study on the effect of tocotrienol as an adjunct to conventional treatment. This study was approved by the Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subject. JKEUPM-2019-274 (NMMR-19-1588-49234).

    This study examined a supervised moderate-intensity aerobic exercise programme's effectiveness in regulating the Tobacco Withdrawal Symptoms (TWS) during temporary abstinence. This was a single group, pre and post-quasi intervention study. Thirty daily smokers participated in an 8-week supervised moderate-intensity aerobic exercise programme. We assessed the TWS, smoking urge, mood and stress-pleasure related hormonal variables after the aerobic exercise intervention. The measurements were conducted after overnight abstinence at baseline, post-intervention (at week-8) and post-detraining (at week-10). TWS components, smoking urge and mood were found to improve. For hormonal variables, cortisol and beta-endorphin except adrenaline showed insignificant changes at post-intervention and de-training. The findings suggest moderate-intensity exercise might help in reducing withdrawal symptoms and its adverse effects. Thus, exercise is an effective adjunct treatment in a smoking cessation programme.

    OBJECTIVE: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) can sometimes be treated and prevented from causing irreversible vision loss if caught and treated properly. In this work, a deep learning (DL) model is employed to accurately identify all five stages of DR.

    METHODS: The suggested methodology presents two examples, one with and one without picture augmentation. A balanced dataset meeting the same criteria in both cases is then generated using augmentative methods. The DenseNet-121-rendered model on the Asia Pacific Tele-Ophthalmology Society (APTOS) and dataset for diabetic retinopathy (DDR) datasets performed exceptionally well when compared to other methods for identifying the five stages of DR.

    RESULTS: Our propose model achieved the highest test accuracy of 98.36%, top-2 accuracy of 100%, and top-3 accuracy of 100% for the APTOS dataset, and the highest test accuracy of 79.67%, top-2 accuracy of 92.%76, and top-3 accuracy of 98.94% for the DDR dataset. Additional criteria (precision, recall, and F1-score) for gauging the efficacy of the proposed model were established with the help of APTOS and DDR.

    CONCLUSIONS: It was discovered that feeding a model with higher-quality photographs increased its efficiency and ability for learning, as opposed to both state-of-the-art technology and the other, non-enhanced model.

    OBJECTIVES: The Malaysian health ministry has started introducing artificial intelligence (AI) technology to aid local healthcare delivery. This study aims to survey Malaysian medical students' attitudes toward AI and evaluate their readiness to work with medical AI technology.

    METHODS: An online questionnaire on Google Forms was distributed to all 31 medical schools in Malaysia. The questionnaire consists of 3 sections: the first part surveyed the participants' demographics, the second assessed the participants' attitudes toward AI, and the final part utilizes the Medical Artificial Intelligence Readiness Scale for Medical Students (MAIRS-MS) scale to evaluate their AI readiness.

    RESULTS: Three hundred and one students from 17 universities in Malaysia responded to the questionnaire. 87.36% of students agreed that AI will play an essential role in healthcare; 32.55% of students were less likely to consider a career in radiology due to the advancement of AI. The majority of students (71%) felt that teaching in AI will benefit their careers, while 69.44% agreed that all students should receive teaching in AI. Around 44.5% of students felt that they will possess the knowledge required to work with AI upon graduation. On the MAIRS-MS scale, students had a mean score of 21 of 40 for the cognitive factor, 25 of 40 for the ability factor, 10 of 15 for the vision factor, and 11 of 15 for the ethics factor. Overall, Malaysian students had a mean total score of 67±14.8 out of 110.

    CONCLUSION: Malaysian medical students have demonstrated awareness of AI and a willingness to learn more about it. More work needs to be done to improve students' AI readiness, particularly their knowledge and application of AI technology. Malaysian universities should start to work on incorporating AI teaching into their curricula.
