CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) has attracted a great attention for electronic devices miniaturization due to its
very high dielectric constant properties at a wide range of frequency and nearly constant over broad temperature range. The origins of the giant dielectric constant have been speculated from electrical heterogeneous of interior elements of the CCTO ceramics. Four origins were suggested contributed to the electrical heterogeneous. In this study heat treatment were done with the electrode contact in Argon gas environment and the electrical properties over very wide frequency of CCTO ceramics were investigated. Cylindrical CCTO pellets samples were prepared by solid state reaction method and single phase of XRD pattern was obtained after sintering processes. Electrical impedance responds were measured at frequency from 100 Hz to 1 GHz for the samples for untreated and heat treated at 200ºC, 250ºC, 300ºC, 350ºC and 400ºC of CCTO. Improvement to the dielectric constant can be seen for 350ºC and 400ºC samples and dielectric loss were improved for 200ºC and 300ºC samples for overall frequency. The variations were discussed based on oxygen deficiency content and resistivity of the elements inside of CCTO structure.
The effect of testosteron on Ascaris suum worm load and larval growth were studied. The results revealed that the effect of testosterone on A. suum infection was dose dependent. Administration of 0.5 mg testosterone propionate (TP) for 18 days significantly increased the mice susceptibility to A. suum infection (66.2 ± 11.15 larvae) (mean ± S.E.) when compared to the control. Higher dosage of testosterone (1.0, 2.5 or 5.0 mg TP) did not show any significant effect. The present experiment also showed that administration of testosterone (0.5 mg TP) for 7 days increased the host susceptibility (86.1 ± 5.86 larvae) to A. suum infection compared to the control (14.6 ± 1.71 larvae) (P < 0.001). Similar results were found when the hormone was administered for 14 and 28 days. On the contrary, when gonadectomised mice were given 0.5 mg TP, the level of susceptibility increased (P < 0.001). It is believed that testosterone indirectly influence the parasitic infection through its effect on the lymphoid organs.
An interpenetrating polymer network (IPN), N-isopropylacrylamide/O-nitrochitosan (NONK) was developed in the presence of ammonium persulfate using solution polymerization technique. O-nitrochitosan (ONK) was synthesized from chitosan, before it was further reacted with N-isopropylacrylamide. A new vibration of the C-N bond formed between the NH from ONK and the CH2 from NIPAAm was detected at the peak 1154 and 1171 cm-1 using attenuated total reflection Fouriertransform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. In the polymerization, the primary amine became a secondary amine and the peaks of the amide I (C=O peak) and amide II (N–H) were broadened. The structure of ONK was confirmed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). At 10°C, the result from swelling test was found that IPN poly(NONK82) had the highest swelling percentage, 1171%, compared to poly (NIPAAm) at 467%. Micrograph from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated the pore size of IPN NONK increased with an increasing ratio of ONK.
One-dimensional nanostructure materials are very attractive because of their electronic and optical properties depending on their size. It is well known that properties of material can be tuned by reducing size to nanoscale because at the small sizes, that they behave differently with its bulk materials and the band gap will control by the size. The tunability of the band gap makes nanostructured materials useful for many applications. As one of the wide band gaps semiconductor compounds, zinc selenide (ZnSe) nanostructures (nanoparticles, nanowires, nanorods) have received much attention for the application in optoelectronic devices, such as blue laser diode, light emitting diodes, solar cells and IR optical windows. In this study, ZnSe nanostructures have been synthesized by reduction process of zinc selenate using hydrazine hydrate (N2H4.2H2O). The reductive agent of hydrazine hydrate was added to the starting materials of zinc selenate were heat treated at 500 o C for 1 hour under argon flow to form onedimensional nanostructures. The SEM and TEM images show the formation of nanocompositelike structures, which some small nanobars and nanopellets stick to the rod. The x-ray diffraction and elemental composition analysis confirm the formation of mixture zinc oxide and zinc selenide phases.
The past decade has seen a growing recognition internationally that children have a right
to participate in matters that affect their lives. In a family legal proceeding, it is in practice left to the
discretion of a judge to decide whether the child is heard. Interviews have become the most common
approach by family court judges in Malaysia to resolve problematic custody disputes. However, many
family law practitioners believe that this can be detrimental to the children as the judges are not experts
in child psychology and counselling. Hence, this article intends to critique the effectiveness of Sulh
(mediation) procedure in resolving custody dispute (hadhanah) in the Syariah Court. Despite the
importance of consulting the affected children, their views are rarely sought nor acknowledged within
the judicial setting. Legal fraternity and parents play a significant influence on whether children’s are
heard in court and Sulh chamber. There is a need for further research to explore legal professionals’ and parents’ perspectives on children’s active involvement in decision-making. This information could
be used to develop guidelines that will assist professionals and parent in facilitating and supporting
children’s participation.
This cross-sectional study was designed to determine the socio-demographic characteristics and prevalence of overweight/obesity and self-reported diabetes mellitus, hypertension and heart disease among the population in Pulau Kundur, Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. This study was conducted in September 2005. We randomly selected 120 of 240 households in Pulau Kundur, Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Fifteen interviewers were trained to use a structured questionnaire to interview 348 adult respondents age 18 years and older in the selected houses. The mean age was 40.7 years; 52.7% were females and 99.4% were Malay. Sixty-two point seven percent were married and 50.9% of them had Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) or less education. The mean head of family income was RM 532.4. The mean body mass index was 25.3. The overall prevalence of overweight/obesity, known hypertension, diabetes mellitus and heart disease were 49.1, 12.6, 7.8 and 2.0% respectively. Adults in this village had a high prevalence of overweight and obesity and self-reported chronic diseases. Health education and lifestyle modification are needed for those adults.
Biologically inspired robotic hands have important applications in industry and biomedical robotics. The
grasping capacity of robotic hands is crucial for a robotic system. This paper presents an experimental
study on the finger force and movements of a human hand during the grasping operation in real-time.
It focuses on two topics; measuring grasping force using Flexi-force sensors and analysing human hand
action during grasping operation. The findings show that lifting required higher forces compared with
grasp force in the static phase.
Background: Drug abuse is a serious global health problem. Globally, 269 million people or 5.3 percent of the population aged 15‒64 years used drugs in 2018. Evidence shows that most drug addicts start using drugs in adolescence (<15-years-old). Adolescents need role models who are able to guide them; teachers have important roles as they are primary role models for students. Therefore, teachers should have positive beliefs to guide students effectively, i.e. they should have good awareness about the threat of drug abuse and high confidence to implement required prevention. This research developed an alternative electronic delivery method of learning material to empower teachers in preventing drug abuse. This study aimed to compare the effect of the electronic and a printed teaching module on teachers' beliefs about drug abuse prevention. Methods: 260 junior high school teachers were selected randomly. These teachers were split into two groups. Before intervention, a questionnaire was completed by both groups. The teachers then completed the learning material: electronic module in the first group and printed module in the second group. One month later, data was collected from both groups using the same questionnaire to assess the beliefs of the teachers Results: There was significant positive effect on teachers' beliefs, both in electronic module and printed module groups. All categories of beliefs at one month after intervention were significantly higher than those at baseline (P<0.001). Based on between group comparison analysis of mean changes, perceived susceptibility in electronic module group was significantly higher than printed module group (P<0.001), while perceived severity, benefits, barriers and efficacy were not significantly different (P>0.05). Conclusions: Electronic and printed module intervention significantly increased teachers' beliefs in drug abuse prevention. The printed module was still effective to be used as learning media, while the electronic module was an alternative with some advantages.
Sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) is common but often underdiagnosed in children. The Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire developed by University of Michigan, USA (English UM PSQ) has high sensitivity and specificity in identifying children with sleep-disordered breathing. This study aimed to translate and adapt the English UM PSQ into Malay language as a screening tool to assess SDB among the Malay speaking population. The second objective was to determine the psychometric measurements of the translated UM PSQ (Malay UM PSQ).
