The purpose of this article is to illustrate the links between the three factors of parental attachment (i.e., communication, trust, and alienation) and cyberbullying experiences among school- going children. A total of 375 students aged 9 to 16 years old were selected using stratified sampling method from 8 schools in Selangor. The authors adapted a 10-item instrument from the previous studies of Youth Internet Safety Survey (YISS) and EUkidsonline scales to assess the cyberbullying prevalence based on two sub-dimensions (online harassment and sex-based bullying). The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to analyse the construct validity of the scales. Structural equation modelling (SEM) then was used to test the study hypotheses. The final model has an estimated that 10% (R2=.95) of the variance in cyberbullying is explained by parental attachment, indicating only the alienation factor predicted the children’s cyberbullying experiences. The findings, however, supported a differentiated approach to positive parenting.
Road Safety remainsone the most important issuesaffecting educational institutions especiallythe school. The
prevalence of road accidentsin recent news reportsunderlines the importance of this issue. Such accidents involving
school pupils have further escalated this concern. As such, safety awareness among school teachersis crucial in order
for them to identify the suitable methods to prevent more road accidents in future. This study was conducted to
analyse teachers’ awareness of road safety in school to gauge the training requirementson road safety. Road safety
education and training in school is just as important as improving safety for road users outside schools. For this
study, a set of survey questionnaire wasdistributedto 400 school teachers from 111 schools randomly selected from
the 10 District Education Offices in Kelantan. Results were then analysed using Statistical Package for the Social
Sciences (SPSS). From the results, 40% of respondentswere male and 60% of them were female. Descriptive analysis
showed that school teachers understood road safety as 90% of them possessed basic safety knowledge, while 10% of
them lacked basicknowledge on road safety. However, they did not implement safety practice that may have
contributed to unfortunate eventshappening outside of school including road accidents as reported in the news. This
study suggests that school teachers must undergo road safety training to promote and improve road safety in
school. With higher awareness and more information about the road safety, the teacherscould create a safer
environment in their school. Undoubtedly, teachers have a vital roleto ensure safety of their pupils and their
commitment will likely reduce the number of road accidents.
The main objective of this study was to obtain information regarding the effects of educational and socio-economic status of the patients on the prescribing pattern of non-steroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) by the qualified medical personnel in the outpatient departments (OPDs) of two selected polyclinics in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. A total of 200 selected patients (100 from each polyclinic) attending the OPDs were interviewed using a questionnaire. Again data were collected, photocopied and later analyzed. Educated and higher income group of patients mostly attended in a Private Polyclinic (PPC) whereas less educated and lower income group of patients generally attended UMS Polyclinic (UPC). This was reported as a probable reason for the wide variations in the prescribing pattern with respect to pharmacological subclasses of NSAIDs in the OPDs of two polyclinics. The present results strongly support that probable reason. The number of patients taking NSAIDs before coming to hospital was more in PPC compared to UPC. They were influenced by pharmacists, friends and doctor’s advice given previously. In conclusion, it may be mentioned that overall prescribing pattern of NSAIDs among two polyclinics is rational.

There is significant difference between QWL and gender (p=0.009) where male reported higher QWL compared to female. Conclusion: These findings could be used by the organizations in order to enhance its performance, productivity, employees’ commitment and satisfaction.
Introduction: One of the commonly used techniques for mutation screening is High Resolution Melting (HRM) analysis. HRM is a post PCR method that relies on the detection of the fluorescent signals acquired due to the release of DNA intercalated dyes upon the melting of dsDNA to ssDNA. The method is simple, inexpensive and does not require post PCR-handling, making it suitable for high throughput screening. Methods: This study aimed to develop and validate HRM technique for the screening of two disease-associated single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) namely BDNF rs6265 and DAT1 rs40184 using a total of 30 gDNA samples. The obtained results were confirmed and validated by sequencing. Results: HRM analysis showed that the predicted genotypes of BDNF rs6265 and DAT1 rs40184 among all the gDNA samples were in 100% concordance with the sequencing results, making it an accurate and sensitive method for the detection of SNPs. Conclusions: The application of HRM can accurately determine the genotype of BDNF rs6265 and DAT1 rs40184 SNPs, making it a promising tool for rapid and high-throughput screening of targeted SNPs in a large population study.
Supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2) extracted mango seed fat (MSF) was blended with palm oil mid-fraction (POMF) to obtain cocoa butter replacers (CBRs). The fatty acid constituents and physicochemical properties of the formulated blends were analysed by gas chromatography (GC). In this study, the fatty acid constituents and other physicochemical properties such as iodine value (43.2 to 43.4 g I2/100 g fat), saponification value (195.7 to 195.9 mg KOH/g fat), acid value (2.1 to 2.7%), and slip melting point (33.8 to 34.9°C) of blends MSF/POMF at ratios 85/15, 80/20, 75/25, and 70/30 were found similar to the physicochemical properties of commercial cocoa butter. Thus, it could be concluded that the MSF/POMF blends that are blends 85/15, 80/20, 75/25, and 70/30 (3 to 6) could be suggested as CBRs in terms of the physicochemical properties like fatty acid constituents, iodine, saponification and acid values and slip melting point.
Introduction Tuberculosis (TB) is a major global health challenge especially in low- and middle-income countries reflects improper, delayed or missed diagnosis. Contact screening should be utilized both as an efficient and effective targeted approach to intensify TB case finding.
Methods Through a comprehensive systematic literature review of online database, this paper aims at providing an insight into the current practice of TB contact screening and to provide evidence based practice for formulation of appropriate policies in low- and middle-income countries. There are 24 articles included in this review from studies published from 2005 to 2014.
Results Findings in literature varies substantially. Generally, contact screening is better intensified with clear operational guidelines, adequate training, include close contact outside household as appropriate and follow up at least for 1 year. Prioritizing high risk close contacts is helpful in resource limited setting. Tuberculin skin test is still of value as screening tool and intensified case finding must be accompanied with effective management protocol. Prophylaxis treatment is recommended especially for children especially less than 5 years old, unvaccinated, malnourished, living with person having HIV and close contact with MDR-TB.
Conclusions Policy recommendations in improving TB management must incorporate complementary strategies to enhance case finding, effective management protocol for follow up or prophylaxis treatment, training for public health capacity and concerted dedication from various stakeholders

Citation: Annual Report of the Diabetes in Children & Adolescent Registry (DiCARE) 2006-2007. Kuala Lumpur: Clinical Research Centre; 2008
The objective of Diabetes in Children and Adolescents Registry (DiCARE) under the Ministry of Health (MOH) is to collect information about diabetes mellitus in children and adolescents in Malaysia. This is important in estimating the incidence of diabetes mellitus among children and adolescents and at the same time evaluating the risk factors and the management. The registry aims to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of health care among the young diabetics and the health economics of diabetes. The issues related to diabetes care can be looked into and solved when the patients are still young, with the hope that they will become knowledgeable adults who can reasonably handle their diabetes well and thus decrease the long term complications. This information is deemed important in assisting the MOH, Non-Governmental Organizations, healthcare providers and industries in the planning and evaluation of diabetes mellitus prevention and control.
CD4+CD25+ Foxp3+ T regulatory cell (Tregs) represents approximately 8-10% of the total CD4+ T cell population and are important for immune homeostasis and preventing autoimmune development. Thus, harnessing their functions as immune modulator may be coupled with the rapid advancement of nanotechnology development. Plant-mediated biosynthesis of silver nanoparticle (AgNP) is noteworthy due to simplicity, rapid rate and potentially render more biocompatibility with biomolecules. This study identified the effect of biosynthesized-AgNPs from Garcinia atroviridis (GA) in modulating inflammatory properties of Treg cells in Non-Obese Resistant (NOR). GA extract was used to biosynthesized AgNPs and was tested on the effect of inducing inflammatory properties in CD4+IL17Rhigh cells following 72hr in vitro treatment. Methods: Conventional CD4+CD25-Foxp3- cells from female NOR mice were sorted using magnetic separation and cultured in RPMI in the presence of anti-CD3/CD28 antibodies, TGF-β and IL-2 cytokines. Cells were then treated with or without GA-AgNPs for 48hr of iTreg cell induction and then re-cultured with new media treated with respective treatments received. After 72hr in vitro culture, cells were stained with fluorochrome-conjugated antibodies for flow cytometry. Results: Current result showed that AgNPs suppress CD4 expression in CD4+IL17Rhigh population. MAPK pathway proteins remain unchanged in both control and AgNP-treated groups. Conclusions: The preliminary findings may suggest the properties of GA-AgNPs in modulating CD4+ T cell population in normal condition. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the molecular mechanisms involve in such interaction. Current findings serve as basis in further identifying the immunomodulatory profile of nanoparticle for potential therapeutic use.
Bukit Perangin Forest Reserve, Kedah Malaysia is a popular forest park well known for its clear rivers and streams, interesting sedimentary rock formations and a rich biodiversity in flora and fauna. The results of the survey showed that a total of 15 species of amphibians belonging to 6 families and 15 species of reptiles
belonging to 7 families were found in the study area. These constitute the first records for the amphibians and reptiles in this forest. The herpetofauna checklist showed that the most abundant amphibians were from the family Ranidae while the most abundant reptiles were from the family Gekkonidae.
A study of spatial and temporal variations on water quality and trophic status was conducted twice a month from December
2012 to January 2014 in four sampling stations at Bukit Merah Reservoir (BMR). The concentration of dissolved oxygen
(DO), water temperature, conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS), total phosphorous (TP), PO4
-
, NO2
-
, NO3
-
, NH4
+ and
net primary productivity had significant differences temporally (p<0.05) except for pH, total suspended solids (TSS)
and chlorophyll-a. Based on correlation analysis, the amount of rainfall and rain days has negatively correlated with
secchi depth and chlorophyll-a (p<0.01). The water level has significantly decreased the value of the temperature, pH,
conductivity, TP and NO2
-
but it has positive correlation with NO3
-
and NH4
+. Discharged from Sungai Kurau increased
the value of conductivity, TSS, TP and NO2
-
as a result from runoff and erosion, thus decreasing the secchi depth values,
NO3
-
and NH4
+. The water quality of BMR is classified in Class II and TSI indicates that the BMR has an intermediate level
of productivity (mesotrophic) and meets the objective of this reservoir which was to provide water for paddy irrigation.
This study was carried out at an ultrabasic area, Selaru (S1 & S2) dan Felda Rokan Barat (S3), Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. Eighteen samples of plant and their substrates were collected from study area. Available Mn and Zn concentrations were higher than the other heavy metals in term of percentage. Fe and Mn were dominant in all parts of plants however in terms of BAC average, Co showed the highest enrichment value in all parts of the plants.
The present research has been designed to understand the histomorphological development of lymphatic tissues of Cobb 500 strains of postnatal broiler chickens, aged between day old and D14 of Kelantan, Malaysia by gross and histological study. In the present study, it was found that the gross weight, length and width of the thymus, bursa of Fabricius and spleen were increased with the advancement of ages of the broiler chickens and was found higher from D14 to D28. Fine septa of connective tissue divide the thymus into lobes and lobules. The cortex of lobule is densely populated with lymphocytes. The bursal follicles were composed of a peripheral cortex which was rich in bursal cells and centrally depopulated medulla. The mucosal folds of the bursa were lined by pseudostratified columnar epithelium. The spleen has two compartments, the red and white pulp. The red pulp consisted principally of red blood cells, while the majority of the populations of white pulp were the lymphocytes. The histological mean length and width of the thymic lobules, bursal follicles and white pulp of the spleen were grown faster with the advancement of ages at D14 and D28. In conclusion, the increment of gross and histological parameters of lymphoid organs of broilers in the present study was due to aging of broilers.
The use of technology in teaching and learning is increasingly synonymous with the existence of multiple online platforms. Online teaching and learning guides help lecturers and students to obtain a variety of information related to their specialization in the field of study. As all UiTM students at the Diploma level are required to take and pass the Entrepreneurial Basic course (ENT300), they need to produce an entrepreneurial project as one of the course evaluation components. However, the number of science and technology based entrepreneurship projects and products are still too few based on project titles every semester. The ENT300 Kiosk Science and Technology (KENTS) was developed specifically as a guide for the students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Mathematics and has been improved by expanding its scope to the students of the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science at UiTM Johor. A more global scope in KENTS provides specialized online guides for lecturers and students in the science and technology clusters. KENTS is a platform that can be used to realize the direction of higher education in Malaysia and to assist UiTM in producing holistic graduates with entrepreneurship. This online guide platform provides teaching and learning assistance through the custom business template which is categorized into two, system development and machine design. KENTS provides a search function from a list of compilations of science-based and entrepreneurial projects that help lecturers and students find entrepreneurial ideas. KENTS database is used to store student entrepreneurial project information as an e-learning platform that can be shared by lecturers and students globally.
The aim of this study is to compare the effectiveness of cold water immersion (CWI) and progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) on DOMS markers among young athletes. A total of 30 young athletes with mean age of 18.57 ± .504 years old, weight 61.92 ± 7.96 kg and height 170.67 ±7.57 cm volunteered to participate in this study. Participants were required to perform 20 reps x 5 sets drop jump (DJ) to induce muscle damage. They were randomly assigned into three groups: CWI (n = 10), PMR (n = 10) and control group (n = 10). Immediately following damage-inducing exercise protocol, CWI group were required to submerge lower body until iliac crest level in 15°C±1°C of cold water for 16 minutes; whereas control group applied the same position without immersed in cold water for 16 minutes. Perceived muscle soreness, range of motion (ROM) thigh circumference and the 20 meter sprint have been used as DOMS markers in this study. Markers were measured pre-exercise, post-exercise, post-intervention, and after 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours and 96 hours. The results of mixed ANOVA revealed a significant interaction (p < 0.05) in 20-meter sprint between groups and measurements at 24 hours and post-interventions, respectively. Conversely, no significant interactions were found in perceived muscle soreness, ROM and thigh circumference (p > 0.05). In conclusion, a single bout of CWI and PMR are not beneficial to elicit positive effects on DOMS markers used in this study.
Generation of huge volumes of lignocellulosic biomass from agricultural sector is of concern due to its direct effects on the depletion of overall environmental quality. Conversion of biomass into solid biofuel through pyrolysis reaction has become one of the solutions to manage the abundance of biomass. Pyroligneous acid (PA) produced from the condensation of smoke generated during biomass carbonization process has the potential to be applied in various applications based on the diverse active chemical compounds present. In this study, PA obtained from palm kernel shell (PKS) was evaluated for antifungal activity and solid pineapple biomass (PB) was evaluated for antibacterial and plant growth promoter activities. Higher antifungal activity was determined for crude PA from PKS (PA-PKS) and dichloromethane-extract (DPA-PKS) with 0% coverage area when evaluated using rubber wood blocks against mold and blue sapstain after for 4 weeks of observation. This antifungal activity can be attributed to the presence of phenols and its major derivatives as suggested from the GC-MS and FTIR analysis. Concentrated PA from PB displayed good antibacterial capabilities with almost similar growth inhibition for Escherichia coli (13±1 to 20±1 mm) and Corynebacterium agropyri (20±1 mm). PA-PB also showed good potential as PGP where the addition of 2% (v/v) of PA-PB into the fertilizer for okra plant resulted in highest number of leaves and fruits while 4% (v/v) PA-PB managed to give highest plant height, longest root, heaviest fruits and biggest leaf diameter. Thus, this study successfully demonstrated the potential use of PA obtained from lignocelluosic biomass in various applications.
In this study, graphene-on-silicon process technology was developed to fabricate a power rectifier Schottky diode for efficiency improvement in high operating temperature. Trench-MOS-Barrier-Schottky (TMBS) diode structure was used to enhance the device performance. The main objective of this research was to study the effect of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) deposited on silicon surface for Schottky barrier formation and heat transfer in Schottky junction. The study showed RGO deposited on silicon as a heat spreader could help to reduce the effect of heat generated in the Schottky junction that leads to a leakage current reduction and efficiency improvement in the device. With comparison to the conventional metal silicide (titanium silicide and cobalt silicide), the leakage reduced by two-orders of magnitude when tested under high operating temperature (>100°C). TMBS rectifier diode that uses graphene-based heat spreader could produce highly reliable product able to withstand high temperature operating condition.
