    This study presents the efficiency of the wind-driven optimisation (WDO) approach in solving non-convex economic dispatch problems with point-valve effect. The best economic dispatch for a power system is one wherein the system can generate energy at a low cost. The calculation of the generating cost is subject to a number of constraints, such as the power demand for the entire system and the generation limit for each generator unit in the system. In addition, the system should also produce low power loss. The WDO optimisation technique is developed based on the concept of natural wind movement, which serves as a stabiliser to equalise the inequality of air pressure in the atmosphere. One major advantage of WDO over other techniques is its search accuracy. The proposed algorithm has been implemented in two systems, namely, the 10-generator and 40-generator systems. Both systems were tested in a Matlab environment. To highlight the capabilities of WDO, the results using this proposed technique are compared with the results obtained using flower pollination algorithm, moth flame optimisation, particle swarm optimisation and evolutionary programming techniques to determine the efficiency of the proposed approach in solving economic dispatch. The simulation results show the capability of WDO in determining the optimal power generation value with minimum generation cost and low rate of power loss.

    BACKGROUND: Medical students face significant psychological stress, impacting their academic performance and well-being. The Systematic Assessment for Resilience (SAR) framework is designed to enhance resilience and mitigate stress among medical students, addressing the need for interventions within the assessment system in medical education. The aim of this study was to evaluate the implementation of SAR framework on medical students' resilience, anxiety, depression, burnout, and academic stress.

    METHODS: This study employed a quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-testing. It involved the training of course coordinators in implementing the SAR framework and its integration into the daily learning activities. Fourth-year medical students were assessed before and after the intervention using standardized measures of resilience, anxiety, depression, burnout, and academic stress. Data were analyzed using quantitative methods and thematic analysis for qualitative feedback.

    RESULTS: Post-intervention, students demonstrated a significant increase in resilience scores (p  0.05). Qualitative feedback of the course coordinators highlighted an improved learning environment, increased coping strategies, and a more supportive academic culture.

    CONCLUSION: The SAR framework significantly contributes to enhancing medical students' resilience and reducing psychological distress. Its implementation suggests a promising approach to fostering a supportive educational environment that not only addresses the psychological challenges faced by medical students but also enhances their academic performance and overall well-being. Further research is warranted to explore the long-term impacts of SAR across different medical education contexts.

    The urgent need for efficient and accurate automated screening tools for COVID-19 detection has led to research efforts exploring various approaches. In this study, we present pioneering research on COVID-19 detection using a hybrid model that combines convolutional neural networks (CNN) with a bi-directional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) network, in conjunction with fiber optic data for SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. Our research introduces a comprehensive data preprocessing pipeline and evaluates the performance of four different deep learning (DL) algorithms: CNN, CNN-RNN, BiLSTM, and CNN-BiLSTM, in classifying samples as positive or negative for the COVID-19 virus. Among these, the CNN-BiLSTM classifier demonstrated superior performance on the training datasets, achieving an accuracy of 89%, a recall of 88%, a precision of 90%, an F1-score of 89%, a specificity of 90%, a geometric mean (G-mean) of 89%, and a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) of 96%. In addition, the achieved classification results were compared with those reported in the literature. The findings indicate that the proposed model has promising potential for classifying COVID-19 and could serve as a valuable tool for healthcare professionals. The use of IgG antibodies to detect the virus enhances the specificity and accuracy of the diagnostic tool.

    BACKGROUND: Mental wellbeing issues among medical students are common, and their relationship to medical professionalism is debated. Few studies have attempted to link such issues with undergraduate medical education. This review aimed to advance the knowledge on this matter by exploring the relationship between mental wellbeing and medical professionalism in undergraduate medical education.

    METHODS: We collected the literature about mental wellbeing and medical professionalism (published from 1 January 1986 to 31 March 2021) from the Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus and ScienceDirect databases using the search terms 'mental wellbeing' and 'medical professionalism'.We included all peer-reviewed articles in which mental wellbeing and medical professionalism in the undergraduate medical education context were the central topics regardless of the age range, nationality, race and gender of the participants.

    RESULTS: From the 13,076 Iinitially found articles, 16 were included. These 16 articles were from nine countries in four different continents, which all together helped us find answer to our research question using extracted points relating to the main study themes (mental wellbeing and medical professionalism). Under theme 1 (mental wellbeing), six subthemes emerged: burnout, stress, depression, disappointment, depersonalisation and conscientiousness. Theme 2 (medical professionalism), on the other hand, had five subthemes: empathy, academic performance, compassion, unprofessional behaviour and professionalism. A significant inverse association was found between empathy and burnout. Academic performance was also related to burnout. At the same time, empathy was found to have a varied association with stress. Moreover, compassion was found to alleviate burnout and nurture professional gratification.

    CONCLUSION: The medical professionalism attributes were found to deteriorate as the mental wellbeing issues grow. This can harm medical students' overall health, current learning abilities and future attitudes towards their patients. Explicit primary research is thus required to examine and intervene in the cause-effect relationship between medical professionalism and mental wellbeing.

    Aim: Rs16851030, a single-nucleotide variant located in the 3'-untranslated region of the ADORA1 gene, has been proposed as a potential marker of caffeine sensitivity in apnea of prematurity. Besides, it is associated with aspirin-induced asthma and the development of acute chest syndrome. However, its functional significance is still unconfirmed. This study aimed to elucidate the functional impact of rs16851030 by using CRISPR/Cas9 approach to induce the DNA variant and attendant physiological changes.Methods: Rs16851030 was introduced into HEK293 cells via homology-directed repair (HDR). Edited cells were fluorescence-enriched, sorted, isolated, and expanded into single-cell-derived clones. The edit was confirmed by Sanger sequencing. RNA sequencing was used to analyze affected pathways.Results: Rs16851030-mutant cells showed increased susceptibility to hypoxia, a condition related to apnea of prematurity. After 24 h of hypoxia, the viability of mutant clones 1 and 2 was low compared with wild-type cells (75.45% and 74.47% vs. 96.34%). RNA sequencing revealed transcriptomic changes linked to this increased vulnerability.Conclusion: Rs16851030 impairs cellular resistance to hypoxia, suggesting its role in conditions like apnea of prematurity. Further research should investigate the molecular mechanisms and transcriptomic alterations caused by rs16851030 under hypoxic conditions.

    Ethnopharmacological Relevance. Colon cancer has been a major problem worldwide. Kelulut honey (KH) is produced by the stingless bees from Trigona species and has strong antioxidant activities that could be one of the potential chemopreventive agents from natural resources. Aim of This Study. This study investigated the chemopreventive properties and toxicity of KH in Sprague Dawley rats induced with azoxymethane (AOM). Material and Method. Twenty-four male Sprague Dawley rats aged 5 weeks were divided into 4 groups: (G1) untreated group not induced with AOM, (G2) untreated group induced with AOM, (G3) treated group induced with AOM, and (G4) treated group not induced with AOM. Injection of AOM (15 mg/kg) was via intraperitoneal route once a week for two subsequent weeks. The treatment groups were given oral administration of KH (1183 mg/kg body weight) twice daily for 8 weeks. Results. Treatment with KH significantly reduced the total number of aberrant crypt foci (ACF) and aberrant crypts (AC) and crypt multiplicity. KH was not toxic to the animals since the level of blood profile parameters, liver enzymes, and kidney functions was in normal range. Conclusions. The current finding shows that KH has chemopreventive properties in rats induced with colorectal cancer and also was found not toxic towards the animals.

    Copper complexes have been widely studied for the anti-tumour application as cancer cells are reported to take up greater amounts of copper than normal cells. Preliminary study revealed that the newly synthesised copper complex [Cu(SBCM)2] displayed marked anti-proliferative towards triple-negative MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. Therefore, Cu(SBCM)2 has great potential to be developed as an agent for the management of breast cancer. The present study was carried out to investigate the mode of cell death induced by Cu(SBCM)2 towards MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. The inhibitory and morphological changes of MDA-MB-231 cells treated with Cu(SBCM)2 was determined by using MTT assay and inverted light microscope, respectively. The safety profile of Cu(SBCM)2 was also evaluated towards human dermal fibroblast (HDF) normal cells. Confirmation of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest were determined by flow cytometry analysis. The expression of p53, Bax, Bcl-2 and MMP2 protein were detected with western blot analysis. Cu(SBCM)2 significantly inhibited the growth of MDA-MB-231 cells in a dose-dependent manner with GI50 18.7 ± 3.06 µM. Indeed, Cu(SBCM)2 was less toxic towards HDF normal cells with GI50 31.8 ± 4.0 µM. Morphological study revealed that Cu(SBCM)2-treated MDA-MB-231 cells experienced cellular shrinkage, membrane blebbing, chromatin condensation and formation of apoptotic bodies, suggesting that Cu(SBCM)2 induced apoptosis in the cells, which was confirmed by Annexin-V/PI flow cytometry analysis. It was also found that Cu(SBCM)2 induced G2/M phase cell cycle arrest towards MDA-MB-231 cells. The induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in the present study is possibly due to the down-regulation of the mutant p53 and MMP2 protein. In conclusion, Cu(SBCM)2 can be developed as a targeted therapy for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer.

    AIM: To investigate the enhancement of anticancer activity of thymoquinone (TQ) by the use of nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) in 4T1 tumor-bearing female BALB/c mice.

    MATERIAL & METHODS: TQ was incorporated into NLC (TQNLC) by using high pressure homogenization. TQNLC and TQ were orally administered to the mice.

    RESULTS & CONCLUSION: TQNLC and TQ are potential chemotherapeutic drugs as they exhibited anticancer activity. The use of NLC as a carrier has enhanced the therapeutic property of TQ by increasing the survival rate of mice. The antimetastasis effect of TQNLC and TQ to the lungs was evidence by downregulation of MMP-2. TQNLC and TQ induced apoptosis via modulation of Bcl-2 and caspase-8 in the intrinsic apoptotic pathway.

    Urethral catheterization is a common procedure, but it is associated with a number of complications. Iatrogenic hypospadias can rarely occur. There is a limited literature dedicated to this condition. We report a young patient with COVID-19 with iatrogenic hypospadias of grade 3. He was undergone to a two-stage procedure with acceptable outcome. Surgical repair should be offered and performed for young patients to ensure good function with acceptable penile appearance. A surgical treatment will improve psychological, sexual and social outcomes.

    The hydrology hydraulic model is established to assess environmental information on hydrology which
    can be used to investigate causes of various environmental problems at the river and natural lake
    catchment. This study reports on sediment concentrations at a river using a gravimetric method to
    investigate the hydrology system at a lake catchment. The measurement was carried out at the
    upstream, midstream, and downstream stations on the river in normal, rainy and post-rainy seasons.
    The stations are located along the Chini River, which are connected to a catchment lake (located at
    latitude 3°26’36.41”E-3°27’03.26”E and longitude 102°54’31.94”N-102°53’35.49”N). From the
    measurements, it is estimated that on average 787.621 tonne/km2 of sediment is transferred into the
    natural lake via Chini River annually. The correlation of statistical analysis between the sediment load
    and discharge study was very significant (R2 = 0.980). There is a linear relation between the area of
    the catchment and sediment load of the connecting river as supported by other studies in Malaysia.
    The outcome of the study suggests that the high sedimentation is due to land use activity, existence of
    the dam at the downstream of Chini River that traps the sediment, reverse flow from the Pahang River
    into Chini River and riverbank erosion factors. From this study, the sediment control steps are
    suggested such as creating conservation partially at the lake catchment, modifying the dam system,
    riverbank erosion control, and application of “Monkey Cheek” system. These sediment control steps
    may help to clean up the high suspended sediment at the whole lake system area, hence solving and
    mitigating the environmental problems in the natural lake catchment.

    Introduction: Copper complexes can be developed as targeted agent for cancer due to increased uptake of copper by cancer cells for angiogenesis. Our previous published data showed that copper complex Cu(SBCM)2 induced apoptosis towards triple-negative MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells. However, its effect towards other breast cancer subtype remains unknown. Current study was performed to explore the cytotoxicity of Cu(SBCM)2 towards oestrogen- receptor positive MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Methods: MTT assay was employed to study the growth inhibition of Cu(SBCM)2 towards MCF-7 breast cancer cells and human non-cancerous MCF10A breast cells. Morphological changes of Cu(SBCM)2-treated MCF-7 cells was observed under inverted light microscope. Induction of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis were accessed by flow cytometry. The expression of wild-type p53 protein was evaluated by western blotanalysis. Intracellular reactive oxygen species of MCF-7 treated with Cu(SBCM)2 was detected using DCFHDA assay. The cells were then co-treated with Cu(SBCM)2 and antioxidants to evaluate the involvement of ROS in the cytotoxicity of Cu(SBCM)2. Molecular docking study was performed to determine the interaction of Cu(SBCM)2 with DNA, DNA topoisomerase I, and human ribonucleotide reductase. Results: Cu(SBCM)2 induced G2/M phase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in MCF-7 cells possibly via upregulation of p53 wild-type protein. Cu(SBCM)2 was less toxic towards MCF10A cells. Increased level of intracellular ROS was not detected in MCF-7 cells after treatment with Cu(SBCM)2. However, N-acetylcysteine antioxidant enhance the cytotoxicity of Cu(SBCM)2 in MCF-7 cells. Cu(SBCM)2 showed the greatest affinity for DNA topoisomerase I in comparison to DNA and human ribonucleotide reductase. Conclusions: Cu(SBCM)2 has a potential to be developed as a targeted agent for breast cancer.

    Anatomy is an important knowledge for medical practice. Insufficient anatomy knowledge leading to errors in identification of anatomical structures during medical practices has been reported in many countries. Many medical students seem to have difficulties in learning anatomy and retaining the knowledge for future practice, thus this might reflect the possible flaws in anatomy education. In order to achieve optimum anatomy education environment and to close the gaps in education, measuring the students' perception on anatomy teaching and learning is a pre-emptive measure needed by educationists. At present, there is no valid and reliable inventory available to specifically evaluate the anatomy education environment. Therefore, this article highlights the importance of having such inventory.

    Glioma is the most common primary brain tumour of the central nervous system. Many genetic alterations
    and mutations have been identified in glioma using various approaches. We performed DNA sequencing on
    the tumours of 16 patients with Grade I, II, III and IV glioma. The AmpliSeq Cancer Primers Pool was used
    to generate the amplicons. The targeted-ion sphere particles were prepared using the Ion One Touch and
    Ion Enrichment systems. DNA sequencing was performed on the Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine
    (PGM) and the data were analysed using the Torrent Suite Software.
    In total, 14 mutations were identified in the following genes: KDR (Q472H), MLH1 (V384D), MET (N375S),
    PTPN11 (E69K), BRAF (V600E), TP53 (D149E, E154K, V157F), IDH1 (R132H), PIK3CA (H1047R), CSF1R
    (c1061_1061 ins A), KIT (M541L), PTEN (c1373_1373 del A) and PDGFRA (E556V). In addition, there were
    four novel mutations identified; TP53 (E154K, and D149E), CSF1R (c1061_1061 ins A) and PDGFRA
    (E556V). The pathogenicity prediction showed that only three mutations were pathogenic: PTPN11 (E69K),
    BRAF (V600E) and Tp53 (E154K). These mutations result in changes of the proteins’ structure and could
    affect their functions. Pathway analyses suggested that these genes are closely related to the pathogenesis of
    GBM through several pathways such as proliferation and invasion, metabolism and angiogenesis.
    In conclusion, PGM in combination with the AmpliSeq Cancer Panel could be utilised as a potential
    molecular diagnostic tool not only for glioma but also for other cancers.

    Recent statistics revealed that cancer is one among the main reasons for death throughout the world. Several treatments are available but still there is no cure when it is detected at late stages. One of the treatment modes for cancer is chemotherapy which utilizes anticancer drugs in order to eradicate the cancer cells by apoptosis. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death through which body maintains homeostasis or kills cancer cells by utilizing its cell machinery. Recent researches have concluded that dietary agents have a putative role in instituting apoptosis of cancer cells. Honey, one of the victuals rich in antioxidants, has a long-standing exposure to humans and its role in cancer prevention and treatment is a topic of current interest. Various researchers have been experimenting honey against different cancers and provided valuable insights about the apoptosis induced by the honey. This review will highlight the recent findings of apoptotic mechanism involved in different cancer cells. Further it also reports antitumor activity of honey in some animal models. Hence it is high-time to initiate more preclinical trials as well as clinical experiments which would further add to the knowledge of anticancer nature of honey and also endorse honey as a potential candidate in the war against cancer.

    The use of vegetable oil-based ester as a base fluid in synthetic drilling fluid has become a trend in drilling operations due to its environmental advantages. The transesterification reaction of palm oil methyl ester (POME) with 2-ethylhexanol (2EH) produced 98% of palm oil-based ethylhexyl ester in less than 30 minutes. Since the transesterification reaction of POME with 2EH is a reversible reaction, its kinetics was studied in the presence of excess EH and under vacuum. The POME-to-EH molar ratio and vacuum pressure were held constant at 1:2 and 1.5 mbar respectively and the effects of temperature (70 to 110°C) were investigated. Using excess of EH and continual withdrawal of methanol via vacuum promoted the reaction to complete in less than 10 minutes. The rate constant of the reaction (k) obtained from the kinetics study was in the range of 0.44 to 0.66 s⁻¹ and the activation energy was 15.6 kJ.mol⁻¹. The preliminary investigations on the lubrication properties of drilling mud formulated with palm oil-based 2EH ester indicated that the base oil has a great potential to substitute the synthetic ester-based oil for drilling fluid. Its high kinematic viscosity provides better lubrication to the drilling fluid compared to other ester-based oils. The pour point (-15°C) and flash point (204°C) values are superior for the drilling fluid formulation. The plastic viscosity, HPHT filtrate loss and emulsion stability of the drilling fluid had given acceptable values, while gel strength and yield point could be improved by blending it with proper additives.

In this study, the anticancer effect of ethyl acetate extract of D. suffruticosa (EADs) was examined on human breast adenocarcinoma cell line MCF-7 and the molecular pathway involved was elucidated.
