METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey among Malaysian MSM (August to September 2021). Participants completed questionnaires, including socio-demographic characteristics, HIV/STI testing practices, drug- and sex-related behaviors, and knowledge and attitudes toward HIV prevention services. Out of 1,799 completed surveys, 870 were included in the analysis after eliminating duplicates and incomplete surveys. We used logistic regression to determine factors associated with never-testing for HIV.
RESULTS: Overall, one-third of the study participants (33.8%) reported having never tested for HIV. Of those who reported to have tested for HIV (n = 576), half reported that they had tested for HIV in the past 6 months (50.3%). In multivariable logistic regression, MSM with HIV sero-concordant partner (aOR = 3.44, 95% CI = 1.56-7.60), without a prior diagnosis of a sexually transmitted infection (aOR = 2.83, 95% CI = 1.46-5.49), unaware of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP; aOR = 2.71, 95% CI = 1.74-4.21), unaware of someone taking PrEP (aOR = 1.64, 95% CI = 1.15-2.35), and unwilling to use PrEP (aOR = 2.48, 95% CI = 1.43-4.30) had higher odds of never been tested for HIV. In contrast, MSM who were older (aOR = 0.95, 95% CI = 0.93-0.97) and of the Malaya ethnic group (aOR = 0.59, 95% CI = 0.37-0.95) had lower odds of never testing for HIV.
CONCLUSION: Our findings shed light on the characteristics of HIV never-testers among MSM in Malaysia. The results indicate the need for innovative strategies to increase the uptake of HIV testing services among members of the MSM community.
RESULTS: An RNAi construct targeting the RNA recognition motif of the Aedes aegypti transformer-2 (tra-2) gene does not trigger female-to-male sex conversion as commonly observed among dipterous insects. Instead, homozygous insects show greater mortality among m-chromosome-bearing sperm and mm zygotes, yielding up to 100% males in the subsequent generations. The performance of transgenic males was not significantly different to wild-type males in narrow-cage competitive mating experiments.
CONCLUSION: Our data provide preliminary evidence that the knockdown of Ae. aegypti tra-2 gene expression causes segregation distortion acting at the level of gametic function, which is reinforced by sex-specific zygotic lethality. This finding could promote the development of new synthetic sex distorter systems for the production of genetic sexing mosquito strains.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This is a prospective study of women undergoing bariatric surgery, between May 2017 and April 2018. FSD was diagnosed using the Malay version of Female Sexual Function Index (MVFSFI) questionnaire. Patients filled up the questionnaire before and 6 months after surgery. Association between BMI reduction and FSFI score improvement was measured using Fisher's exact test. Outcomes between types of surgery (sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass) was compared.
RESULTS: Fifty-two women completed the study. The mean age was 38.77 ± 6.7. There were 44 (84.6%) Malay patients, 7 (13.5%) Indian patients, and 1 (1.9%) Chinese patient. There was a significant reduction in mean BMI, 39.89 ± 6.9 pre-surgery to 30.32 ± 5.4 post-surgery (p value sexual domains and should be considered as a management option in this group of women.
METHODS: Various databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and ScienceDirect) along with Google Scholar search engine were hired for systematic searching in the field of the prevalence of FSD (by July 2022). The heterogeneity of the studies was assessed using I2 index, and random effects model was used to perform the analysis (CMA software, v.2).
RESULTS: Following assessment of 14 included studies with the sample size of 2115 women, a total prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD) in women with MS was reported 62.5% (95% CI 53.9-70.5). Meta-regression assessment also showed that FSD accelerates following increasing the sample size and the year of the studies.
CONCLUSION: The total prevalence of SD in women with MS was found considerably high (62.5%) in the world, which needs more serious attention by health policymakers. Correct implementation of health policies can potentially increase the society's awareness and successful treatment of SD in MS patients.
