MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study adapted and translated the Vaccine Hesitancy Scale (VHS) developed by the WHO SAGE Working Group. The scale underwent a sequential validation process, including back-back translation, content, face, and construct validity for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The reliability was tested using internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha composite reliability (CR) and average variance extracted (AVE)).
RESULTS: The data for EFA and CFA were completed by a separate sample of 125 and 300 HCWs, respectively. The EFA analysis of the C19-VHS-M scale was unidimensional with 10 items. A further CFA analysis revealed a uniform set of nine items with acceptable goodness fit indices (comparative fit index = 0.997, Tucker-Lewis index = 0.995, incremental fit index = 0.997, chi-squared/degree of freedom = 1.352, and root mean square error of approximation = 0.034). The Cronbach's alpha, CR and AVE results were 0.953, 0.95 and 0.70, respectively.
CONCLUSIONS: The questionnaire was valid and reliable for use in the Malay language.
METHODS: Ninety human molars with carious extension up to the middle third of occlusal dentin were included. The teeth were then arbitrarily allocated into three groups based on the type of surface conditioning received (n = 30) Group 1 (PA), Group 2 (FS laser), and Group 3 (Ery PS). Ten samples from each group underwent Ra analysis using a stylus profiler. Twenty samples from each cohort were distributed into two subcategories based on the application of unmodified EA (A) and Sep-infiltrated EA (B). Composite restoration was built followed by SBS and failure mode analysis. Scanning electron microscopy and Energy dispersive X-ray EDX were assessed of sepiolite NPs. Degree of conversion (DC) and rheological analysis of the modified adhesive and unmodified adhesive were also performed. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey post hoc test were employed to conduct comparisons between the different groups.
RESULTS: The highest score of Ra and bond strength were displayed by Group 1B (PA + Sep-NPs filled EA) (17.32 ± 1.43 MPa) samples. Nevertheless, the lowest values were established by Group 3A (Ery-PS + EA) (13.45 ± 0.80 MPa) treated teeth. An increase in Ra resulted in a rise in SBS.DC decreased with the incorporation of 1 % Sep-NPs in EA compared to unmodified EA.
CONCLUSION: Conditioning of CAD with PA and FS laser shows high surface roughness and favorable adhesion to experimental adhesive modified with 1 % Sep-NPs. Modified adhesive with 1 % Sep-NPs decreases DC and rheological properties.
Methods: The genomes of 24 MTBC isolated from sputum and pus samples were sequenced. The phenotypic drug susceptibility testing (DST) of the isolates was determined for ten anti-TB drugs. Bioinformatic analysis comprising genome assembly and annotation and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis in genes associated with resistance to the ten anti-TB drugs were done on each sequenced genome.
Results: The draft assemblies covered an average of 97% of the expected genome size. Eleven isolates were aligned to the Indo-Oceanic lineage, eight were East-Asian lineage, three were East African-Indian lineage, and one was of Euro-American and Bovis lineages, respectively. Twelve of the 24 MTBC isolates were phenotypically MDR M. tuberculosis: one is polyresistance and another one is monoresistance. Twenty-six SNPs across nine genes associated with resistance toward ten anti-TB drugs were detected where some of the mutations were found in isolates that were previously reported as pan-susceptible using DST. A haplotype consisting of 65 variants was also found among the MTBC isolates with drug-resistance traits.
Conclusions: This study is the first effort done in Malaysia to utilize 24 genomes of the local clinical MTBC isolates. The high-resolution molecular epidemiological data obtained provide valuable insights into the mechanistic and epidemiological qualities of TB within the vicinity of Southeast Asia.
METHODS/FINDINGS: Faecal samples were examined by formalin-ether sedimentation and trichrome staining techniques. Of 500 individuals, 8.7% (13/150) of Proto-Malay, 29.5% (41/139) of Negrito, and 18.5% (39/211) of Senoi were positive for E. histolytica/E. dispar/E. moshkovskii, respectively. The prevalence of this infection showed an age-dependency relationship, with higher rates observed among those aged less than 15 years in all ethnic groups studied. Multivariate analysis confirmed that not washing hands after playing with soils or gardening and presence of other family members infected with E. histolytica/E. dispar/E. moshkovskii were significant risk factors of infection among all ethnic groups. However, eating with hands, the consumption of raw vegetables, and close contact with domestic animals were identified as significant risk factors in Senoi.
CONCLUSIONS: Essentially, the findings highlighted that E. histolytica/E. dispar/E. moshkovskii parasites are still prevalent in Malaysia. Further studies using molecular approaches to distinguish the morphologically identical species of pathogenic, E. histolytica from the non-pathogenic, E. dispar and E. moshkovskii are needed. The establishment of such data will be beneficial for the public health authorities in the planning and implementation of specific prevention and control strategies of this infection in different Orang Asli ethnic groups in Malaysia.
