    Current uric acid detection methodologies lack the requisite sensitivity and selectivity for point-of-care applications. Plasmonic sensors, while promising, demand refinement for improved performance. This work introduces a biofunctionalized sensor predicated on surface plasmon resonance to quantify uric acid within physiologically relevant concentration ranges. The sensor employs the covalent immobilization of uricase enzyme using 1-Ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide (EDC) and N-Hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) crosslinking agents, ensuring the durable adherence of the enzyme onto the sensor probe. Characterization through atomic force microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy validate surface alterations. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm model elucidates binding kinetics, revealing a sensor binding affinity of 298.83 (mg/dL)-1, and a maximum adsorption capacity of approximately 1.0751°. The biofunctionalized sensor exhibits a sensitivity of 0.0755°/(mg/dL), a linear correlation coefficient of 0.8313, and a limit of detection of 0.095 mg/dL. Selectivity tests against potentially competing interferents like glucose, ascorbic acid, urea, D-cystine, and creatinine showcase a significant resonance angle shift of 1.1135° for uric acid compared to 0.1853° for interferents at the same concentration. Significantly, at a low uric acid concentration of 0.5 mg/dL, a distinct shift of 0.3706° was observed, setting it apart from the lower values noticed at higher concentrations for all typical interferent samples. The uricase enzyme significantly enhances plasmonic sensors for uric acid detection, showcasing a seamless integration of optical principles and biological recognition elements. These sensors hold promise as vital tools in clinical and point-of-care settings, offering transformative potential in biosensing technologies and the potential to revolutionize healthcare outcomes in biomedicine.

    Administration mode of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) may influence responses. We assessed if Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale - Depression subscale (HADS-D) item responses and scores were associated with administration mode. We compared (1) self-administration versus interview-administration; within self-administration (2) research or medical setting versus private; and (3) pen-and-paper versus electronic; and within interview-administration (4) in-person versus phone. We analysed individual participant data meta-analysis datasets with item-level data for the PHQ-9 (N = 34,529), EPDS (N = 16,813), and HADS-D (N = 16,768). We used multiple indicator multiple cause models to assess differential item functioning (DIF) by administration mode. We found statistically significant DIF for most items on all measures due to large samples, but influence on total scores was negligible. In 10 comparisons conducted across the PHQ-9, EPDS, and HADS-D, Pearson's correlations and intraclass correlation coefficients between latent depression symptom scores from models that did or did not account for DIF were between 0.995 and 1.000. Total PHQ-9, EPDS, and HADS-D scores did not differ materially across administration modes. Researcher and clinicians who evaluate depression symptoms with these questionnaires can select administration methods based on patient preferences, feasibility, or cost.

    INTRODUCTION: Physical inactivity is a major global health concern, contributing to the rising non-communicable disease burden. Elucidating barriers and facilitators influencing participation is critical to promoting activity. This study aimed to synthesize the literature and analyze the extent of research on determinants of physical activity engagement.

    METHODS: Scoping review methodology guided the synthesis of 272 publications on factors influencing physical activity. Bibliometric analysis examined publication trends, productivity, influential studies, content themes, and collaboration networks.

    RESULTS: Since 2010, the United States has led a significant increase in research output. Highly cited articles identified physiological limitations and psychosocial determinants as key barriers and facilitators. Extensive focus was seen in clinical medicine and exercise science journals. Analysis revealed predominant attention to psychosocial factors, physiological responses, and applications in respiratory disease. Gaps remain regarding policy and environmental factors.

    CONCLUSION: This review showed major advances in elucidating determinants while revealing the remaining needs to curb the pandemic of inactivity globally. Expanding international collaboration, contemporary theoretical models, and tailored mixed-methods approaches could promote progress through greater global participation. Addressing knowledge gaps across populations and disciplines should be a priority.

    BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Nearly one in ten individuals in South-East Asia are estimated to be affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD). The burden of end-stage kidney disease is significant and can be heavy on the healthcare system. The recent EMPA-KIDNEY trial demonstrated a significant reduction in the risk of kidney disease progression or cardiovascular death in patients with CKD with a broad range of kidney function using add-on empagliflozin versus standard of care (SoC) alone. The objective of this study was to estimate the economic benefit of empagliflozin for patients with CKD in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.

    METHODS: An individual patient level simulation model with an annual cycle that estimates the progression of kidney function and associated risk-factors was employed. Local costs and mortality rates were estimated from a wide range of published literature. A healthcare perspective was used over a 50-year time horizon.

    RESULTS: The use of add-on empagliflozin versus SoC alone was found to be cost-saving in Malaysia and Thailand and cost-effective (ICER: 77,838,407 Vietnam Dong/QALY vs. a willingness to pay threshold of 96,890,026/QALY) in Vietnam. The bulk of the costs avoided over a lifetime is derived from the prevention or delay of dialysis initiation or kidney transplant - the cost offsets were nearly twice the additional treatment cost. The results were similar in patients with and without diabetes and across broad range of albuminuria.

    CONCLUSIONS: The use of add-on empagliflozin in a broad population of patients with CKD is expected to be cost-saving in Malaysia and Thailand and cost-effective in Vietnam and will help alleviate the increasing burden of CKD in the region.

    Deposition of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the trabecular meshwork (TM) increases aqueous humour outflow resistance leading to elevation of intraocular pressure (IOP) in primary open-angle glaucoma, which remains the only modifiable risk factor. Resveratrol has been shown to counteract the steroid-induced increase in IOP and increase the TM expression of ECM proteolytic enzymes; however, its effects on the deposition of ECM components by TM and its associated pathways, such as TGF-β-SMAD signalling remain uncertain. This study, therefore, explored the effects of trans-resveratrol on the expression of ECM components, SMAD signalling molecules, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and tissue plasminogen activator in dexamethasone-treated human TM cells (HTMCs). We also studied the nature of molecular interaction of trans -resveratrol with SMAD4 domains using ensemble docking. Treatment of HTMCs with 12.5 µM trans-resveratrol downregulated the dexamethasone-induced increase in collagen, fibronectin and α-smooth muscle actin at gene and protein levels through downregulation of TGF-β1, SMAD4, and upregulation of SMAD7. Downregulation of TGF-β1 signalling by trans-resveratrol could be attributed to its effect on the transcriptional activity due to high affinity for the MH2 domain of SMAD4. These effects may contribute to resveratrol's IOP-lowering properties by reducing ECM deposition and enhancing aqueous humour outflow in the TM.

    In the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), this study accentuates the role of the tourism and hospitality sector in promoting sustainability. The primary purpose is to unravel the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and energy-specific sustainable behavior of employees (ESBE), with particular emphasis on the mediating roles of green intrinsic motivation and personal environmental norms. Utilizing a three-wave data collection approach, we secured 325 valid responses from sector employees at various levels (manager-non managers) and applied Structural Equation Modeling through the SMART-PLS tool to assess the hypothesized relationships. The findings highlight a pronounced interconnection between CSR, ESBE, and the designated mediating variables. These results not only augment the academic literature by illustrating the psychological underpinnings bridging CSR to ESBE, but also equip the tourism and hospitality industry with actionable insights. Through informed CSR initiatives aligned with employee values, the sector can galvanize sustainable behaviors and create business models that resonate with the aspirations of the UN-SDGs, pointing the way to a more sustainable industry.

    Nano-plastics (NPs) have emerged as prevalent contaminants in aquatic ecosystems, gaining significant research interest. Nonetheless, limited research has addressed the toxicity mechanisms associated with PS-NPs (polystyrene nanoplastics) of varying particle sizes. In this investigation, genotoxicity, growth patterns, hepatopancreatic damage, and intestinal flora alterations in freshwater shrimp Neocaridina palmata (Shen 1948), subjected to 35 days PS-NPs exposure (two size PS-NPs: 75 nm and 200 nm were used for this experiment, and five concentrations were set: 0 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 2.5 mg/L, 5 mg/L, and 10 mg/L concentrations PS-NP concentrations were examined using RNA sequencing, histopathological analyses, enzyme activity assessments, and 16S rRNA sequencing. Noteworthy variations in differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified across groups exposed to different PS-NPs sizes. We observed that PS-NPs predominantly instigated cellular component-related processes and induced apoptosis and oxidative stress across tissues via the mitochondrial pathway. Although the 200 nm-PS-NPs are stronger than the 75 nm-PS-NPs in terms of fluorescence intensity, 75 nm-PS-NPs are more likely to promote apoptosis than 200 nm-PS-NPs. PS-NPs impeded standard energy provision in N. palmata, potentially contributing to decreased body length and weight. Moreover, PS-NPs inflicted damage on intestinal epithelial and hepatopancreatic tissues and significantly modified intestinal microbial community structures. Specifically, PS-NPs-induced intestinal damage was marked by a decline in some probiotics (notably Lactobacilli) and a surge in pathogenic bacteria. Moreover, supplementing N. palmata with Lactobacilli appeared ameliorate oxidative stress and strengthen energy metabolism. Our findings provided valuable insights into crustacean toxicity mechanisms when subjected to PS-NPs and the potential risks that different PS-NPs sizes posed to terrestrial ecosystems.

    In metropolitan cities, it is very complicated to govern the optimum routes for garbage collection vehicles due to high waste production and very dense population. Furthermore, wrongly designed routes are the source of wasting time, fuel and other resources in the collection of municipal trash procedure. The Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) published between 2011 and 2023 was systematically analysed. The majority of the surveyed research compute the waste collecting problems using metaheuristic approaches. This manuscript serves two purposes: first, categorising the VRP and its variants in the field of waste collection; second, examining the role played by most of the metaheuristics in the solution of the VRP problems for a waste collection. Three case study of Asia continent has been analysed and the results show that the metaheuristic algorithms have the capability in providing good results for large-scale data. Lastly, some promising paths ranging from highlighting research gap to future scope are drawn to encourage researchers to conduct their research work in the field of waste management route problems.

    The study investigates the heat transfer and friction factor properties of ethylene glycol and glycerol-based silicon dioxide nanofluids flowing in a circular tube under continuous heat flux circumstances. This study tackles the important requirement for effective thermal management in areas such as electronics cooling, the automobile industry, and renewable energy systems. Previous research has encountered difficulties in enhancing thermal performance while handling the increased friction factor associated with nanofluids. This study conducted experiments in the Reynolds number range of 1300 to 21,000 with particle volume concentrations of up to 1.0%. Nanofluids exhibited superior heat transfer coefficients and friction factor values than the base liquid values. The highest enhancement in heat transfer was 5.4% and 8.3% for glycerol and ethylene glycol -based silicon dioxide Nanofluid with a relative friction factor penalty of ∼30% and 75%, respectively. To model and predict the complicated, nonlinear experimental data, five machine learning approaches were used: linear regression, random forest, extreme gradient boosting, adaptive boosting, and decision tree. Among them, the decision tree-based model performed well with few errors, while the random forest and extreme gradient boosting models were also highly accurate. The findings indicate that these advanced machine learning models can accurately anticipate the thermal performance of nanofluids, providing a dependable tool for improving their use in a variety of thermal systems. This study's findings help to design more effective cooling solutions and improve the sustainability of energy systems.

    BACKGROUND: A notable increase in severe cases of COVID-19, with significant hospitalizations due to the emergence and spread of JN.1 was observed worldwide in late 2023 and early 2024. However, no clinical data are available regarding critically-ill JN.1 COVID-19 infected patients.

    METHODS: The current study is a substudy of the SEVARVIR prospective multicenter observational cohort study. Patients admitted to any of the 40 participating ICUs between November 17, 2022, and January 22, 2024, were eligible for inclusion in the SEVARVIR cohort study (NCT05162508) if they met the following inclusion criteria: age ≥ 18 years, SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by a positive reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) in nasopharyngeal swab samples, ICU admission for acute respiratory failure. The primary clinical endpoint of the study was day-28 mortality. Evaluation of the association between day-28 mortality and sublineage group was conducted by performing an exploratory multivariable logistic regression model, after systematically adjusting for predefined prognostic factors previously shown to be important confounders (i.e. obesity, immunosuppression, age and SOFA score) computing odds ratios (OR) along with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).

    RESULTS: During the study period (November 2022-January 2024) 56 JN.1- and 126 XBB-infected patients were prospectively enrolled in 40 French intensive care units. JN.1-infected patients were more likely to be obese (35.7% vs 20.8%; p = 0.033) and less frequently immunosuppressed than others (20.4% vs 41.4%; p = 0.010). JN.1-infected patients required invasive mechanical ventilation support in 29.1%, 87.5% of them received dexamethasone, 14.5% tocilizumab and none received monoclonal antibodies. Only one JN-1 infected patient (1.8%) required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support during ICU stay (vs 0/126 in the XBB group; p = 0.30). Day-28 mortality of JN.1-infected patients was 14.6%, not significantly different from that of XBB-infected patients (22.0%; p = 0.28). In univariable logistic regression analysis and in multivariable analysis adjusting for confounders defined a priori, we found no statistically significant association between JN.1 infection and day-28 mortality (adjusted OR 1.06 95% CI (0.17;1.42); p = 0.19). There was no significant between group difference regarding duration of stay in the ICU (6.0 [3.5;11.0] vs 7.0 [4.0;14.0] days; p = 0.21).

    CONCLUSIONS: Critically-ill patients with Omicron JN.1 infection showed a different clinical phenotype than patients infected with the earlier XBB sublineage, including more frequent obesity and less immunosuppression. Compared with XBB, JN.1 infection was not associated with higher day-28 mortality.

    BACKGROUND: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a consequence of significant disability and health issues globally, and long COVID represents the symptoms of neuro-musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory complications.

    PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify the symptom responses and disease burden of long COVID in individuals with spinal cord injury.

    METHODS: This case-control study was conducted on patients with SCI residing at a specialised rehabilitation centre in Bangladesh. Forty patients with SCI with and without long COVID symptoms (LCS) were enrolled in this study at a 1:1 ratio according to WHO criteria.

    RESULT: Twelve LCS were observed in patients with SCI, including fatigue, musculoskeletal pain, memory loss, headache, respiratory problems, anxiety, depression, insomnia, problem in ADL problem in work, palpitation, and weakness. The predictors of developing long COVID include increasing age (p<0.002), increasing BMI (p<0.03), and longer duration of spinal cord injury (p<0.004). A significant difference (p<0.01) in overall years of healthy life lost due to disability (YLD) for non-long COVID cases was 2.04±0.596 compared to long COVID (LC) cases 1.22±2.09 was observed.

    CONCLUSION: Bangladeshi patients of SCI presented 12 long COVID symptoms and have a significant disease burden compared to non long COVID cases.

    Weld defect inspection is an essential aspect of testing in industries field. From a human viewpoint, a manual inspection can make appropriate justification more difficult and lead to incorrect identification during weld defect detection. Weld defect inspection uses X-radiography testing, which is now mostly outdated. Recently, numerous researchers have utilized X-radiography digital images to inspect the defect. As a result, for error-free inspection, an autonomous weld detection and classification system are required. One of the most difficult issues in the field of image processing, particularly for enhancing image quality, is the issue of contrast variation and luminosity. Enhancement is carried out by adjusting the brightness of the dark or bright intensity to boost segmentation performance and image quality. To equalize contrast variation and luminosity, many different approaches have recently been put forth. In this research, a novel approach called Hybrid Statistical Enhancement (HSE), which is based on a direct strategy using statistical data, is proposed. The HSE method divided each pixel into three groups, the foreground, border, and problematic region, using the mean and standard deviation of a global and local neighborhood (luminosity and contrast). To illustrate the impact of the HSE method on the segmentation or detection stage, the datasets, specifically the weld defect image, were used. Bernsen and Otsu's methods are the two segmentation techniques utilized. The findings from the objective and visual elements demonstrated that the HSE approach might automatically improve segmentation output while effectively enhancing contrast variation and normalizing luminosity. In comparison to the Homomorphic Filter (HF) and Difference of Gaussian (DoG) approaches, the segmentation results for HSE images had the lowest result according to Misclassification Error (ME). After being applied to the HSE images during the segmentation stage, every quantitative result showed an increase. For example, accuracy increased from 64.171 to 84.964. In summary, the application of the HSE method has resulted in an effective and efficient outcome for background correction as well as improving the quality of images.

    This study explores the comprehensive effects of green finance (GF) on the low-carbon transition of the energy system (LTES) by analyzing panel data from 281 cities in China from 2006 to 2021. It is found that GF significantly reduces overall energy consumption and exhibits a U-shaped association with energy efficiency, while its relationship with the energy consumption structure is inverted U-shaped. After accounting for endogeneity in the robustness tests, these findings remain consistent and are therefore deemed reliable. A mechanistic analysis reveals that GF promotes industrial upgrading, technological progress, and economic agglomeration, collectively facilitating the LTES. The impact of GF on LTES shows considerable variation among regions, influenced by their levels of economic growth, extents of marketization, and governmental environmental preferences. Our findings provide new evidence for the relationship between GF and LTES, offering a scientific basis for formulating GF policies to accelerate this transformation.

    This study assessed the viability of an anion-exchange microbial fuel cell (MFC) for extracting electricity from palm oil mill effluent (POME), a major pollutant in palm-oil producing regions due to increasing demand. The MFC incorporated a tubular membrane electrode assembly (MEA) with an air core, featuring a carbon-painted carbon-cloth cathode, an anion exchange membrane (AEM), and a nonwoven graphite fabric (NWGF) anode. An additional carbon brush (CB) anode was placed adjacent to the tubular MEA. The MFC operated under semi-batch conditions with POME replacement every 7 days. Results showed superior performance of the AEM, with the highest power density (Pmax) observed in POME-treated MFCs. Current and power density increased with CB addition; the best chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency reached 73 %, decreasing from 1249 to 332 mg/L with three CBs. The Pmax was 0.18 W/m-2(-|-) with 1000 mg/L COD and three CBs, dropping to 0.0031 W/m-2(-|-) without CB and at 410 mg/L COD. Anode resistance, calculated using organic matter supplementation, COD, and anode surface area, decreased with increased COD or surface area, improving electricity production. AEM and CB compatibility synergistically enhanced MFC performance, offering potential for POME wastewater treatment and energy recovery.

    Phenytoin, an antiepileptic drug, induces neurotoxicity and abnormal embryonic development and reduces spontaneous locomotor activity in fish. However, its effects on other endpoints remain unclear. Therefore, we investigated the effects of phenytoin on the swimming behavior and reproductive ability of Japanese medaka. Abnormalities in swimming behavior, such as imbalance, rotation, rollover, and vertical swimming, were observed. However, when phenytoin exposure was discontinued, the behavioral abnormality rates decreased. Phenytoin exposure also significantly reduced reproductive ability. By investigating reproduction-related gene expression of gnrh1, gnrh2, fshb, and lhb remained unchanged in males and females. In contrast, kiss1 expression was significantly suppressed due to phenytoin exposure in males and females. kiss2 expression was also significantly suppressed in females but not in males. We filmed videos to examine phenytoin exposure effects on sexual behavior. Females showed no interest in the male's courtship. As the kisspeptin 1 system controls sexual behavior in Japanese medaka, phenytoin exposure may have decreased kiss1 expression, which decreased female reproductive motivation; hence, they did not spawn eggs. This is the first study to show that phenytoin exposure induces behavioral abnormalities, and suppresses kiss1 expression and reproductive performance in Japanese medaka.

    The basic concepts of research are learned through systematic literature searches which form the basis of a research statement and research topic. Then the research question, hypothesis, aim, and objectives, as well as the experimental design, are developed. Given the context provided, the primary focus is on the importance of adequately training postgraduates and young research investigators in research methodology and project development. It is evident that there is a lack of proper training in these areas, and the rapid expansion of colleges in India exacerbates this issue. To address this, research students must receive comprehensive instruction in scientific research methodology, experimental design, statistics, scientific writing, publishing, and research ethics. Our team has been conducting workshops and symposia for more than two decades to improve the current teaching methods in these areas. Most recently, we organized a series of national and international workshops and seminars in multiple states across India to fortify the core concepts of scientific research for students and faculty members. This report highlights the key aspects of these workshops and the positive outcomes experienced by participants.

    Plasma-activated water (PAW) contains multiple active species that alter the structure of myofibrillar protein (MP) to enhance their gel properties. This work investigated the impact of PAW on the oxidation of cysteine in MP by label-free quantitative proteomics. PAW treatment caused the oxidation of 8241 cysteine sites on 2815 proteins, and structural proteins such as nebulin, myosin XVIIIB, myosin XVIIIA, and myosin heavy chain were susceptible to oxidation by PAW. Bioinformatics analysis, including Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway, subcellular localization, and STRING analysis, indicated that these proteins with differential oxidation sites were mainly derived from the cytoplasm and membrane, and were involved in multiple GO terms and KEGG pathways. This is one of the first reports of the redox proteomic changes induced by PAW treatment, and the results are useful for understanding the possible mechanism of PAW-induced oxidation of MP.

    Recent advancements have transformed lignin from a byproduct into a valuable raw material for polymers, dyes, adhesives, and fertilizers. However, its structural heterogeneity, variable reactive group content, impurities, and high extraction costs pose challenges to industrial-scale adoption. Efficient separation technologies and selective bond cleavage are crucial. Advanced pretreatment methods have enhanced lignin purity and reduced contamination, while novel catalytic techniques have improved depolymerization efficiency and selectivity. This review compares catalytic depolymerization methodologies, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages, and noting challenges in comparing yield values due to variations in isolation methods and lignin sources. Recognizing "technical lignin" from pulping processes, the review emphasizes its diverse applications and the necessity of understanding its structural characteristics. Emerging trends focus on bio-based functional additives and nanostructured lignin materials, promising enhanced properties and functionalities. Innovations open possibilities in sustainable agriculture, high-performance foams and composites, and advanced medical applications like drug delivery and wound healing. Leveraging lignin's biocompatibility, abundance, and potential for high-value applications, it can significantly contribute to sustainable material development across various industries.     BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the adherence to surgical antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) guidelines in elective neurosurgery and assess the impact on surgical site infection (SSI) rates in a tertiary teaching hospital in Malaysia.

    METHOD: A retrospective review was conducted on patients who underwent elective neurosurgical procedures from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021, in a 1600-bed tertiary teaching hospital. The study assessed adherence to national and hospital SAP guidelines, focusing on the choice of antibiotic, dosage, timing, and duration. Additionally, a survey was conducted among neurosurgeons to evaluate their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding SAP.

    RESULT: Out of 202 patients included, there was a 99% compliance rate with antibiotic choice and 69.8% with the antibiotic duration. The SSI rate was identified at 6.4%. The knowledge, attitudes, and practices survey highlighted a strong awareness of SAP guidelines among surgeons, albeit with variations in practice, particularly in antibiotic duration and choice of antibiotics.

    CONCLUSIONS: While there is high adherence to the correct choice of antibiotic for SAP in elective neurosurgery, there are gaps in compliance with the recommended duration of antibiotic use. The study highlights the need for targeted interventions to improve adherence to SAP guidelines, which could potentially reduce the incidence of SSI in neurosurgery. Ongoing education and auditing are essential to optimize SAP practices and enhance patient outcomes in neurosurgery.

    AIM: Radiomics involves the extraction of quantitative data from medical images to facilitate the diagnosis, prognosis, and staging of tumors. This study provides a comprehensive overview of the efficacy of radiomics in prognostic applications for head and neck cancer (HNC) in recent years. It undertakes a systematic review of prognostic models specific to HNC and conducts a meta-analysis to evaluate their predictive performance.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study adhered rigorously to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for literature searches. The literature databases, including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, and Scopus were systematically searched individually. The methodological quality of the incorporated studies underwent assessment utilizing the radiomics quality score (RQS) tool. A random-effects meta-analysis employing the Harrell concordance index (C-index) was conducted to evaluate the performance of all radiomics models.

    RESULTS: Among the 388 studies retrieved, 24 studies encompassing a total of 6,978 cases were incorporated into the systematic review. Furthermore, eight studies, focusing on overall survival as an endpoint, were included in the meta-analysis. The meta-analysis revealed that the estimated random effect of the C-index for all studies utilizing radiomics alone was 0.77 (0.71-0.82), with a substantial degree of heterogeneity indicated by an I2 of 80.17%.

    CONCLUSIONS: Based on this review, prognostic modeling utilizing radiomics has demonstrated enhanced efficacy for head and neck cancers; however, there remains room for improvement in this approach. In the future, advancements are warranted in the integration of clinical parameters and multimodal features, balancing multicenter data, as well as in feature screening and model construction within this field.
