    The objective of this study is to determine whether presbycusis occurs much earlier than previously believed if the high frequency (above 8 kHz) are included. Tertiary referral center (a teaching University). This is a cross-sectional observational study. Healthy adults from 20 to 49 years of age who had essentially normal hearing were included into the study. They were subjected to high frequency pure tone audiometry (until 16 kHz). Participants were grouped based on age ranges of 10 years (e.g., 20-29, 30-39, and 40-49) and the presence of symmetrical high frequency sensor neural hearing loss were documented. There is a significant presence of symmetrical high frequency sensor neural hearing loss (not attributed to any known risk factors) as early as from the age group of 40 to 49 years. Seven of 43 participants (16%) from age group of 20 to 29 years and 12 of 24 participants (50%) from age group of 30 to 39 years had significant high frequency hearing loss. High frequency hearing loss (high frequency Presbycusis) may occur much earlier than previously believed.

    Assessment of instructors by students is needed for assessing the teaching quality of a lecturer towards achieving the objectives of a course. This paper aims to examine the techniques used in sentiment analysis for assessing the effectiveness of a lecturer’s or a teacher’s teaching style in the learning process at a university or school. In addition, the effectiveness of sentiment analysis techniques in assisting the teaching evaluation process is also discussed. The challenges for assessing the quality of teaching of National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) lecturers are also discussed in this paper. The sentiment analysis technology is capable of analysing views or opinions on a matter, regardless of whether they are positive or negative. Data from the sentiment analysis can be used by specific parties or anyone else to rectify any weakness or to improve any aspect that the user commented on. The purpose of this study is not to find the weakness of the lecturer, but rather the results of this assessment process can be useful to the management for rectifying weaknesses and for improving the teaching process.

    This introduction to the special issue on global perspectives frames the collection of articles around recent calls for expanding the focus of research in psychology in general, and school psychology specifically, beyond Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic countries and cross-cultural comparisons with non-Western, educated, industrialized, rich, and democratic Confucian East Asian countries (cf. individualistic vs. collectivist societies; see Krys et al., 2024), while neglecting populations in Latin American, Eastern Europe, Africa, Middle East, South Asia, and Oceania. The articles in this issue represent research from China, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Malaysia, Ukraine, Vietnam, and the United States and address topics as diverse as teacher consultation, implementation science, adapting evidence-based interventions, parent-teacher and teacher-child relationships, bullying, behavior management, school climate and equity, resilience during war, newcomer immigrants, refugee status in transit countries, and social media use. Research methods represented in this issue include correlational, case study, comparative (cross-country), mixed methods, and participatory approaches. We hope that the articles in this internationally focused collection heighten school psychologists' knowledge of and interest in a world where science and practice expand beyond borders, and that the global-intercultural perspective represented herein can facilitate collaboration across cultures and contexts as we advocate for the rights and well-being of each child. They initiated the beginning of the first programme in Neurosurgery in Malaysia. The rest is history.

    This dataset presents the validation process of a survey of factors affecting Indonesian K-12 school teachers' Teachers' Information and Communication Technology Access (TICTA). An initial instrument was developed through the adaptation of instruments from previous studies. Afterward, it was piloted to 120 teachers and tested for its reliability. For the main data collection, the instrument was distributed online and responded by 2775 Indonesian K-12 school teachers. The main data analysis was conducted for the measurement model using four assessments; reflective indicator loadings, internal consistency reliability, convergent, and discriminant validity. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was utilized for the analysis. The dataset is beneficial for educational regulators in providing appropriate access to ICT in K-12 education and for educational researchers for future research on technology access in teaching.

    The task of identifying firearms from forensic ballistics specimens is exacting in crime investigation since the last two decades. Every firearm, regardless of its size, make and model, has its own unique 'fingerprint'. These fingerprints transfer when a firearm is fired to the fired bullet and cartridge case. The components that are involved in producing these unique characteristics are the firing chamber, breech face, firing pin, ejector, extractor and the rifling of the barrel. These unique characteristics are the critical features in identifying firearms. It allows investigators to decide on which particular firearm that has fired the bullet. Traditionally the comparison of ballistic evidence has been a tedious and time-consuming process requiring highly skilled examiners. Therefore, the main objective of this study is the extraction and identification of suitable features from firing pin impression of cartridge case images for firearm recognition. Some previous studies have shown that firing pin impression of cartridge case is one of the most important characteristics used for identifying an individual firearm. In this study, data are gathered using 747 cartridge case images captured from five different pistols of type 9mm Parabellum Vektor SP1, made in South Africa. All the images of the cartridge cases are then segmented into three regions, forming three different set of images, i.e. firing pin impression image, centre of firing pin impression image and ring of firing pin impression image. Then geometric moments up to the sixth order were generated from each part of the images to form a set of numerical features. These 48 features were found to be significantly different using the MANOVA test. This high dimension of features is then reduced into only 11 significant features using correlation analysis. Classification results using cross-validation under discriminant analysis show that 96.7% of the images were classified correctly. These results demonstrate the value of geometric moments technique for producing a set of numerical features, based on which the identification of firearms are made.

    This manuscript reports results of an empirical assessment of a newly developed measure designed to assess apprentice teaching proficiency. In this study, Many Facets Rasch model software was used to evaluate the psychometric quality of the Framework for Equitable and Effective Teaching (FEET), a rater-mediated assessment. The analysis focused on examining variability in (1) supervisor severity in ratings, (2) level of item difficulty, (3) time of assessment, and (4) teacher apprentice proficiency. Added validity evidence showed moderate correlation with self-reports of apprentice teaching. The findings showed support for the FEET as yielding reliable ratings with a need for added rater training.

    OBJECTIVES:  To analyze CD35/CD89 expression ratio on the surface of neutrophils as an early detection marker for S-ECC.

    MATERIALS AND METHODS:  Saliva was collected from 4- to 6-year-old kindergarten students. Salivary neutrophils were obtained by instructing the subjects to rinse their mouth with 1 mL of sterile 1.5% NaCl for 30 seconds before expectorating it into a sterile glass. The expression of CFSE+CD35+ and CFSE+CD89+was measured and analyzed using flow cytometry.

    RESULTS: The expression of CFSE+CD89+ in the caries-free group (2.46 ± 0.39) was significantly lower than that in the S-ECC group (3.41 ± 1.11), with a p-value of 0.0001, while the expression of CFSE+CD35+ in the caries-free group was (2.35 ± 0.56) compared with (1.54 ± 0.35) (p = 0.0001) in the S-ECC group.

    CONCLUSIONS:  The expression ratio of CFSE+CD89+ and CFSE+CD35+constitutes a marker for S-ECC.

    Chemical structure of treated and untreated Aciplex membrane has been studied by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Survey spectra showed that both membrane surfaces consist of Fluorine, Carbon, Oxygen, Sulphur and trace of Titanium. Binding energies for the elements are (C1s at 290.6 eV, F1s at 687.5 eV, O1s at 531.3 eV, S2P at 168.1 eV and Ti2P at 454.4 eV). Analysis of narrow scan XPS-spectra of each element demonstrate the presence of (-CF, -CF2, CF3, C-O-C and SO-3) groups, which are in agreement with the structural formula as disclosed by the manufacturer. There is no significant change in chemical states of untreated and treated membrane, which reflect its stability to treatment conditions.

Tenaga ikatan bagi unsur-unsur tersebut adalah (C1s pada 290.6 eV, F1s pada 687.5 eV. O1s pada 531.3 eV, S2P pada 168.2 eV dan Ti2P pada 454.4 eV). Analisis imbasan kecil spektra-xps bagi setiap unsur menunjukkan kehadiran kilmpulan (-CF, - CF2, CF3, C-O-C dan SO-3) yang bertepatan dengan formula struktur dari pihak pembekal. Tiada terdapat perubahan nyata berhubung dengan keadaan kimia membran yang sudah dibersihkan dan yang belum dibersihkan yang menggambarkan kestabilannya terhadap keadaan pembersihan.

    Introduction: Bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training is inconsistent among students and the public. Existing CPR teaching courses are costly, time-consuming, and inconsistent. This study aimed to determine the association between overall CPR competency and two teaching modules, a group-directed video instruction module versus an instructor-led traditional classroom instruction module. Methods: This randomized prospective interventional study involved first year medical students of Universiti Sains Malaysia Health Campus from November 2018 until January 2019. Pass-fail scores representing the overall CPR, individual skill performance, and willingness to perform CPR for strangers and family members were collected. Factors associated with reluctance to perform CPR were assessed in a questionnaire. Results: A total of 99 participants were included, 50 in the group-directed video instruction as the intervention module and 49 in the traditional classroom instruction as the control module. There was no statistical significance between the pass and fail outcomes for both video module (p=0.436). Participants in both modules performed similarly in 8 out of 12 individual CPR skills. There was a significant difference in the distribution of skill scores between the pass and fail outcomes (p=<0.001). The intervention module is non-inferior compared to the control module, in relation to CPR willingness rates for strangers (p=0.999) and family members (p=0.117) after the training. Conclusions: The group-directed video self-instruction method is as effective as the instructor-led traditional classroom method to help participants to be competent and willing to perform CPR. It can be used as an independent or supplementary teaching tool for first-time learners and refreshers, especially in a group setting when teaching materials are limited.

    The dataset presents the relationship between Teacher Self-Concept (TSC) and Teacher Efficacy (TE) as the predictors predicting burnout. Three components of burnout involved are Emotional Exhaustion (EE), Depersonalization (DP), and Reduced Personal Accomplishment (RPA). Various statistical approaches such as Content Validity Index (CVI), Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM) were addressed. Eight hundred seventy six Indonesian teachers form 3 provinces were willing to get involved by filling in the instrument. The data can be used for the educational institutions and centers to issue policies overcoming burnout among teachers, teachers to understand factors affecting their burnout, and future researchers extend the model offered by this dataset. This dataset is co-submitted from Heliyon entitled "Teachers' burnout: A SEM analysis in an Asian context" [1].

    Objectives: To evaluate the impact of the clinical instructor communication on dental students’ clinical training in Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM). Materials and Methods: A sample of 174 undergraduate clinical dental students were recruited to complete the Clinical Education Instructional Quality Questionnaire (ClinEd IQ) which consists of forty-five questions, forty-three multiple choice questions and two open-ended. The multiple-choice questions consist of 3 subscales which were measured on a six-point Likert Scale from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”. The open-ended responses were analysed using thematic analysis. This paper discusses the Subscale of interaction with clinical instructors and the open-ended responses. Results: The responses of 150 students were evaluated. The students rated their interaction with instructors with a mean score of 4.64 on a six -point scale. There was a significant difference between mean scores for each academic level with year five students’ score being highest. There were four areas of concern identified through the open-ended responses. Conclusion: While the quality of supervision in terms of interaction with clinical instructors is considered satisfactory and the students generally reported positive experiences, there is room for improvements especially regarding areas of concern.

    Brake pad apparatus is designed for help student and instructor in teaching and learning application. The objective
    of this research is to differentiate the pressure effect and braking temperature condition of different pad. This apparatus
    also aimed for learning the safety car and motorcycle braking system. This apparatus can to compare with theoretical
    calculation in order to approve that this apparatus is useful. The main concept in this apparatus is thermocouple use
    to detect the temperature gain while braking process. Speed motor controller used for set the angular velocity of the
    motor in braking process. Pressure applied at brake pedal detected by pressure gauge and data logger function as a
    connector. This apparatus also designed based on valid data for average of teenager in Malaysia which made on a
    sample university student. Result show that the apparatus can function effectively by defines the different temperature
    when applied the different pressure and different pad. Pad C shows the 880C for thermocouple 1 and 790C for
    thermocouple 2 at the 20 psi and infrared thermometer show 1130C for pad C. Graph from calculation shows that the
    pad A have 216.480C at 1000 rpm which have low temperature than pad B, C and D. high efficiency of friction and
    pressure applied will cause more heat generate than low coefficient of friction and pressure applied.

    Multicollinearity that may exist among explanatory variables in a regression model can make the regression coefficients insignificant and difficult to interpret. Principal component regression (PCR) is an effective way for solving multicollinearity in regression analysis. The existence of multicollinearity mayor may not be induced by the presence of influential observations. This paper discusses some diagnostic methods for identifying influential observations in the PCR. A data set on water quality of New York Rivers was considered to illustrate the methods.

    Introduction: Dyslexia, which is a learning disability that affects many aspects of children’s development, has a prevalence of 5 – 17%, worldwide. There are many negative perceptions towards children with dyslexia, and one of it is when there is lack of teachers’ knowledge about this problem. Aim: The objective of this study is to develop and discuss on a newly developed module on dyslexia, i.e. Dyslexia Health Education Module (DHEM) for preschool teachers, Method: This module is developed using the ADDIE model (A-Analysis, D-De- sign, D-Develop, I- Implement, E-Evaluate). The content of DHEM consists of general information for pre-school teachers about dyslexia, identification and intervention for dyslexia among children as well as its mental health implications. Results: The newly developed module was found to have a good content validity with a score of 0.7 when evaluated by eight expert panels from respective fields. The Cronbach alpha’s value for reliability test was 0.90. These findings suggest that this module is good, reliable and applicable. Discussion: It is hoped that with the development of DHEM, this would increase teachers’ knowledge on dyslexia among children in Malaysia, especially in recognizing at-risk children and consequently may lead to early intervention in managing the problem. This study also suggests that future longitudinal studies should be carried out using this module to ensure its effectiveness in the long run.

    Dental caries and gingivitis are common oral health problems affecting schoolchildren worldwide. Effective tooth brushing in children is fundamental in preventing dental caries and gingivitis and maintaining good oral health. Children routinely present with unsatisfactory oral hygiene due to poor compliance and poor dexterity in tooth brushing. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a novel T-shaped toothbrush in plaque removal and gingival health among children and to obtain feedback regarding its use. Nineteen participants aged 8-10 years who fulfilled the criteria enrolled in this study. The children were taught the proper technique of using the new toothbrush and instructed to use it for a period of 2 weeks.     Background: Effectiveness of pharmacist-led educational interventions on self-care activities and glycemic control of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients is vague. The purpose of this review is to appraise the effect of pharmacist-led educational interventions on self-care activities and levels of glycated hemoglobin of T2DM patients.

    Methods: Five electronic databases were searched from date of database inception to September 2017. Randomized clinical trials examining the effectiveness of pharmacist-led educational interventions, directed at T2DM patients only, were included for systematic review and meta-analysis. The protocol is available with PROSPERO (CRD42017078854).

    Results: Eleven studies, involving n=1,544 T2DM patients, were included in this systematic review. Meta-analysis demonstrated that pharmacist-led interventions had a significant effect on lowering of the levels of glycated hemoglobin (-0.66; 95% CI [-0.83, -0.50]; I2=58.3%; P=0.008), in comparison to usual care. Self-care activities were assessed by using Summary of Diabetes Self-care Activities tool in eight studies. Overall meta-analysis of self-care activities for included studies demonstrated a significant effect of pharmacist-led interventions on improvement of self-monitoring of blood glucose (1.62; 95% CI [0.92, 2.32]; I2=70.5%; P=0.005), foot care (1.20; 95% CI [0.49, 1.90]; I2=95.0%; P<0.001), and overall diet (1.16; 95% CI [0.38, 1.93]; I2=64.2%; P=0.094).

    Conclusion: The findings of this review demonstrate a significantly positive effect of pharmacist-led educational interventions on HbA1c levels and self-care practices among T2DM patients.

    Empowering lay screeners, such as pre-school teachers, on vision screening is a cost-effective way to
    ensure larger populations of children can be screened. Although the validity of lay screeners in conducting
    vision screening were reported in several studies, none showed data concerning improvement of the level
    of knowledge among lay screeners after completing vision screening training, which could indicate the
    effectiveness of the training program. This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge of pre-school
    teachers before and after attending a training program. Sixty pre-school teachers from Tabika and Taska KEMAS
    were randomly selected. The Study Group (n = 30) was given theory and practical training on vision screening,
    whereas the Control Group (n = 30) was only given brief verbal instructions on how to conduct the screening. A
    theory test containing 15 questions related to the training modules were administered to both groups, before
    and after their training/briefing respectively. The findings showed that the level of knowledge among preschool
    teachers in the Study Group (73.24 ± 11.73%) was significantly higher than the Control Group (56.22

    Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use constitute important belief factors when technology adoption decisions are made within a non-mandatory setting. This paper investigated the role played by psychological ownership in shaping teachers' beliefs about using a cloud-based virtual learning environment (VLE). Psychological ownership is increasingly becoming a relevant phenomenon in technology adoption research, where people can feel psychologically attached to a particular technology. The study proposed that such phenomenon can also occur when using a VLE, and a hypothesised model with six constructs was tested with 629 Malaysian teachers from 21 schools. Results from structural equation modelling-partial least squares analysis found teachers' experiences with the VLE significantly influenced psychological ownership, which in turn significantly predicted perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of the VLE. Overall, the model possesses predictive relevance for the outcome predictors as indicated by Stone-Geisser's Q2, and accounted for 61.6% of variance in perceived usefulness and 62.0% of variance in perceived ease of use. This study provides insights into the motivation behind teachers' beliefs which are shaped by their experiences with the VLE. Implications for theory and practice were discussed based on the insights of the study.
