For the purpose of this study, the role of technological innovation is examined. Few studies have examined empirically and theoretically the relationship between technological innovation and ecological footprint in conjunction with other factors, such as the human capital index and renewable energy sources, such as biofuels and nuclear power. This study examines the impact of technological innovation on G-7 countries' ecological footprints from 1990 to 2020. A cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lag (CS-ARDL) model is used in the study. The results of the study show that technological innovation minimizes the ecological footprint. A lower ecological footprint is also associated with increased usage of human capital and renewable energy. Depletion of the natural environment is a short-term and long-term consequence of increased GDP growth. Our results confirm that ecologically sustainable technology enhances the quality of the environment. Consistent panel causality results were achieved. In the context of the G-7 countries, our study's results could support the idea that there are new policy ideas that could help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 13).

Prior studies on environmental standards have highlighted the significance of urbanization and transportation in affecting environmental sustainability worldwide. As the empirical and theoretical debates are still unresolved and divisive, the argument of whether urbanization, transportation and economic growth in Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries cause greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions remains unclear. This study aim is to examine dynamic linkage between transportation, urbanization, economic growth and GHG emissions, as well as the impact of environmental regulations on GHG emission reduction in ASEAN countries over the years 1995-2018. On methodological aspects, the study accompanies a few environmental studies that check the cross-sectional dependence and slope heterogeneity issues. Moreover, the new cross-sectionally augmented autoregressive distributed lags (CS-ARDL) methodology is also applied in the study to estimate the short-run and long-run effects of the factors on GHG emissions. Substantial evidence is provided that GHG emissions increase with transportation, urbanization and economic growth but decrease with the imposition of environmental-related taxations. Augmented mean group (AMG) and common correlated effect mean group (CCEMG) also support the findings of CS-ARDL estimates. Finally, the study calls for drastic actions in ASEAN countries to reduce GHG emissions, including environmentally friendly transportation services and environmental regulation taxes. This study also provides the guidelines to the regulators while developing policies related to control the GHG emission in the country.

Poor vascularization and infections hinder diabetic wound healing, posing challenges in therapy development. A multi-action approach incorporating Dicer-substrate small interfering RNA (DsiRNA) against the prostaglandin transporter (PGT) gene and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into a Pluronic F-127 (PF127) gel was developed. This study aimed to upscale AuNP biosynthesis using Lignosus rhinocerotis (tiger milk mushroom, TMM) extract and chitosan as stabilizers. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) optimized the synthesis with 0.6 mL chloroauric acid (HAuCl₄) and 4.4 mL TMM extract, producing upscaled AuNPs (152.93 ± 1.56 nm, + 30 mV) with a Surface Plasmon Resonance peak at 538 nm. Both lab-scale and upscaled AuNPs exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC: 250 μg/mL). The gel formulation demonstrated favourable gelling properties for wound dressing. A 28-day toxicity study confirmed no adverse effects on haematology, biochemistry, or organ morphology. In diabetic Wistar rats, only the wounds treated with Pluronic gels containing AuNPs-DsiRNA showed no signs of infection, while the other groups exhibited infection and pustules in the wounded areas. These findings highlight the potential of AuNP-DsiRNA thermoresponsive gels as an innovative, safe, and effective therapy for diabetic wound healing.

The issue of examining the stationarity of per capita energy consumption (PCEC) series is central in energy literature. Most of the existing studies examine this issue by employing unit root tests based on the time domain only providing a partial picture of the problem at hand due to not including the information related to the frequency domain. In contrast to existing studies, the present study uses a recently projected wavelet-based unit root testing scheme-Fourier wavelet KSS (FWKSS) introduced by Aydin and Pata. Energy 207:118245 (2020) which has several advantages over the existing wavelet unit root tests such as the ones proposed by Fan and Gençay (2010). Specifically, the FWKSS takes care of any possible smooth structural break in the data series under examination. This study re-examines the stationarity of PCEC across the globe covering for the first time a total of 133 countries and including all income groups constituting 49 high-, 76 middle- and 8 low-income countries. The selection of countries is made based on the availability of at least 25 years of annual time series data. The empirical results based on latest available data reveal that among 133 chosen countries, 67 countries are found to have non-stationary PCEC including 20 high-, 43 middle- and 4 low-income countries while the remaining 66 countries are found to have stationary PCEC including 29 high-, 33 middle- and 4 low-income countries. PCEC is found to be stationary in 79 of them including 35 high-, 40 middle- and 4 low-income countries. Some relevant policy implications are discussed as well.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of permanent central blindness worldwide. Despite the complexity and inadequate understanding of DR pathogenesis, many of the underlying pathways are currently partially understood and may offer potential targets for future treatments. Anti-VEGF medications are currently the main medication for this problem. This article provides an overview of the established pharmacological treatments and those that are being developed to cure DR. We firstly reviewed the widely utilized approaches including pan-retinal photocoagulation therapy, anti-VEGF therapy, corticosteroid therapy, and surgical management of DR. Next, we discussed the mechanisms of action and prospective benefits of novel candidate medications. Current management are far from being a perfect treatment for DR, despite mild-term favorable efficiency and safety profiles. Pharmacological research should work toward developing longer-lasting treatments or new drug delivery systems, as well as on identifying new molecular targets in the pathogenetical mechanism for DR. In order to find a treatment that is specifically designed for each patient, it is also necessary to properly characterize patients, taking into account elements like hereditary factors and intraretinal neovascularization stages for effective utilization of drugs. The motivation for the current study stem from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs) such as access to clean (SDG-7) and responsible energy consumption (SDG-12) and climate change mitigation (SDG-12). This chase for these goals is pertinent for sustainable economic growth and environmental sustainability. This becomes necessary given the global demand for energy which comes has it environmental consequences given anthropogenic effect. To this end, the present study seeks to identify the factors determining the energy consumption function for 79 economies across the globe. For empirical investigation, 44 years data of five regions, namely Asia and Pacific, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East and Arab States, is analyzed. A multivariate regression model and the method of least squares are employed to achieve set of objectives. The least squares result of the regions and single country of the regions are not significantly different from each other. Every region exhibits a common narrative that economic growth, carbon emissions, and urbanization are the key factors determining the consumption function in most of the sample economies. The empirical findings revealed that energy consumption function is determined by economic growth, urbanization, and carbon emissions. In the light of these findings, it is recommended that energy policy needs to be designed considering the significance of economic growth and environmental quality, and consequently it leads toward the achievement of the sustainable development goals.

This research covers the current status of occupational health and safety (OHS)-related practices in the informal construction segment of Pakistan. Data were collected, through interviews, from 316 construction sites employing 3577 workers. The results of the study reveal that both employers and workers lack knowledge of OHS laws/standards and no practices of this nature are enacted at these construction sites. Alarmingly, work-related accidents, whenever they happen, are not given due attention and there is no formal injury-report system. The informal construction industry employs a huge portion of the informal workforce, and lack of OHS happens at tremendous human cost. These research findings may thus play their role in strengthening the case for reforms in the sector. This study, if properly utilized, may also enable employers of the sector by increasing their knowledge about OHS practices and, as a result, trying to offer safer environments for their workers.

The construction industry plays a significant role in contributing to the economy and development globally. During the process of construction, various hazards coupled with the unique nature of the industry contribute to high fatality rates. This review refers to previous published studies and related Malaysian legislation documents. Four main elements consisting of human, worksite, management and external elements which cause occupational accidents and illnesses were identified. External and management elements are the underlying causes contributing to occupational safety and health (OSH), while human and worksite elements are more apparent causes of occupational accidents and illnesses. An effective OSH management approach is required to contain all hazards at construction sites. An approach to OSH management constructed by elements of policy, process, personnel and incentive developed in previous work is explored. Changes to the sub-elements according to previous studies and the related Malaysian legislation are also covered in this review.

In recent years, there is a growing enthusiasm in honey which has potential health benefits, disease prevention and serves as substitution of modern medicine. Honey is a natural sweet product which is produced by honey bees from floral nectar and has been traditionally used to treat several diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease since ancient times. Gelam honey (GH) is one of the Malaysian wild monofloral honey which is widely used as traditional medicine by the local population. GH is enriched with several therapeutic properties namely, antioxidative, antiinflammatory, anticancer and accelerated wound healing activities. However, there is lack of literature focusing on the overall effects of GH and its medicinal value. This review paper summarises the phytochemistry characteristics of GH along with its therapeutic values which lead to a broad spectrum idea on several diseases. A concise clarification on the therapeutic properties of GH is expected to provide new knowledge to the scientific society in the era of modern globalization.

Antenatal (AN) care is vital for all pregnant women and for reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity. AN care knowledge and specific AN care practices are some of the crucial components of what determines effective AN care. In developing nations, the health of pregnant women can be even more sensitive to these factors. Objectives of this study was to assess the antenatal (AN) care practice and pregnancy outcome of ever-married women aged 18 to 49 years old having at least one pregnancy experience ,residing in kampongs of Sikuati area, Kudat between March to December 2015. Cross–sectional descriptive study, non-probability convenient sampling method was used and 150 eligible participants were interviewed through face to face by trained interviewers using a semi-structured questionnaire and their knowledge of AN care, their AN care practices and outcomes and complications of their pregnancies were recorded. 99% of all the women received AN care, and 64% of the women received essential AN care practice (AN visit of minimum 4 times). The study revealed that overall knowledge amongst the women with good knowledge was 48% and low knowledge was 52%. Despite this, it was found that low knowledge of AN care was associated with essential AN care practice. Additionally, AN care practices, assessed through timing of first AN care visit and frequency of visits, was not significantly associated with pregnancy complications. Despite these results, outcomes were good and all complications were properly and successfully addressed. This may reflect the effectiveness of current programs in place promoting importance of AN care and delivery practices. Maintenance of current programs with targeted interventions to address low knowledge level and the low level of compliance with essential AN care completed are recommended..

osteoblast (hFOB), glial and glioma cell lines grown in 6-wells culture plates were incubated with 99mTcO4 of activity of 200, 400, 600. 800 and 1000
pCi for 30 minutes at 3T°C and 5% ( '< - humidified atmosphere. After incubation, the cells were washed 3 times with phosphate buffer saline to remove the
extracellular traces of 99mTcO4. Measurements of the intercellular Q9mTcOjt radioactivity were performed using single head gamma
camera and the percentage uptake of the yUwTcGpinto the cells was calculated. The intercellular uptake
0fyUmTcO_( was found to be inversely correlate to the radioactivity HeLa cell shows the highest uptake
followed by hFOB, glial and glioma cell lines. Comparison of uptake between normal and cancer cells
present indistinguishable results. The findings of this study suggest that the intercellular uptake of
yymTcOjt is highly dependent on the type of cells despite no significant different of uptake was found
between normal and cancer cell lines. The level of radioactivity is also an important determinant
factor that influence the uptake ofyUmTcG) into the cells. This study will be the first precedent toward
understanding the cellular characteristic and pharmacokinetic of non-invasive imaging tracer for
    future molecular imaging and therapy.

BACKGROUND: Ardisia crispa Thunb. D.C is used mostly in some parts of the Asian region by traditional practitioners to treat certain diseases associated with oxidative stress and inflammation including cancer and rheumatism. In Malaysia, it is popularly known as 'Mata Ayam' and local traditional practitioners believed that the root of the plant is therapeutically beneficial.

METHODS: The cytotoxic effect of hydromethanolic extract of A. crispa and its solvents partitions (ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts) against breast cancer cells were evaluated by using MTT assay. The cells were treated with concentration of extracts ranging from 15.63 μg/mL- 1000 μg/mL for 72 h. The quantification of phenolic and flavonoid contents of the extracts were carried out to determine the relationship between of phytochemical compounds responsible for cytotoxic and antioxidative activities. The antioxidant capacity was measured by DPPH and ABTS free radical scavenging assay and expressed as milligram (mg) Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity per 1 g (g) of tested extract.

RESULTS: The hydromethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts showed moderate cytotoxic effect against MCF-7 with IC50 values of 57.35 ± 19.33 μg/mL, and 54.98 ± 14.10 μg/mL, respectively but aqueous extract was inactive against MCF-7. For MDA-MB-231, hydromethanolic, ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts exhibited weak cytotoxic effects against MDA-MB-231 with IC50 values more than 100 μg/mL. The plant revealed high total phenolic content, total flavonoid and antioxidant capacity.

CONCLUSION: The response of different type of breast cancer cell lines towards A. crispa extract and its partitions varied. Accordingly, hydromethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts appear to be more cytotoxic to oestrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer than oestrogen receptor (ER) negative breast cancer. However, aqueous extract appears to have poor activity to both types of breast cancer. Besides that, hydromethanolic and ethyl acetate extracts exhibit higher TPC, TFC and antioxidant capacity compared to aqueous extract. Synergistic effect of anticancer and antioxidant bioactives compounds of A. crispa plausibly contributed to the cytotoxic effects of the extract.

Two hundred ten samples of selected vegetables (okra, pumpkin, tomato, potato, eggplant, spinach, and cabbage) from Faisalabad, Pakistan, were analyzed for the analysis of heavy metals: cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), arsenic (As), and mercury (Hg). Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry was used for the analysis of heavy metals. The mean levels of Cd, Pb, As, and Hg were 0.24, 2.23, 0.58, and 7.98 mg/kg, respectively. The samples with Cd (27%), Pb (50%), and Hg (63%) exceeded the maximum residual levels set by the European Commission. The mean levels of heavy metals found in the current study are high and may pose significant health concerns for consumers. Furthermore, considerable attention should be paid to implement comprehensive monitoring and regulations.

The feasibility of an anaerobic digestion of cattle manure for biogas production is studied in this paper.
A batch thermophilic oscillatory flow anaerobic bioreactor (OFBR) operated in thermophilic (55o
    C)
condition was used. Within the experimental conditions set in this study, the effect of mixing intensity on
volatile solids removal was found out to be significant. Results demonstrated that increasing the level of
mixing decreased the digester performance. Low intensity mixing at oscillatory Reynolds number (Reo)
of 100 achieved an increase of 37% in biogas yields compared to high mixing intensity, Reo of 500. It
was observed that the mixing intensity effect interacts with the methane composition in the biogas. The
benefit of decreasing mixing intensity emerges to significantly increase the methane composition in the
biogas. These experiments established that high intensity mixing was not essential for good performance
of oscillatory flow anaerobic bioreactor. In addition, the effect of mixing intensity might be reduced
through the use of a slightly lower total solid concentration, hence, lowering the operational cost of the
process. Although the study was lab scale a pilot-scale system where mixing retention times are longer
    would be useful.

The methods of dental age estimation and identification of unknown deceased individuals are evolving with the introduction of advanced innovative imaging technologies in forensic investigations. However, assessing small structures like root canal volumes can be challenging in spite of using highly advanced technology. The aim of the study was to investigate which amongst the two methods of volumetric analysis of maxillary central incisors displayed higher strength of correlation between chronological age and pulp/tooth volume ratio for Malaysian adults. Volumetric analysis of pulp cavity/tooth ratio was employed in Method 1 and pulp chamber/crown ratio (up to cemento-enamel junction) was analysed in Method 2. The images were acquired employing CBCT scans and enhanced by manipulating them with the Mimics software. These scans belonged to 56 males and 54 females and their ages ranged from 16 to 65 years. Pearson correlation and regression analysis indicated that both methods used for volumetric measurements had strong correlation between chronological age and pulp/tooth volume ratio. However, Method 2 gave higher coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.78) when compared to Method 1 (R2 = 0.64). Moreover, manipulation in Method 2 was less time consuming and revealed higher inter-examiner reliability (0.982) as no manual intervention during 'multiple slice editing phase' of the software was required. In conclusion, this study showed that volumetric analysis of pulp cavity/tooth ratio is a valuable gender independent technique and the Method 2 regression equation should be recommended for dental age estimation.

The influence of elevated germanium concentration on the thermoluminesence characteristics of a novel
form of fabricated flat optical fibre was examined. All the samples were irradiated with two nominal
photon energies (6 MV and 10 MV) and 1.25 MeV gamma energy. Flat fibres with 10 mol % Ge
concentration provided the superior TL yield compared against that of 6 and 8 mol % Ge-doped optical
fibres for both 6 MV and 10 MV energy. Interpretation of the results has been aided by study of the glow
curves, revealing in particular new generation of defects in the flat fibres due to strain-generation at the
collapsed surfaces. The strain represent deep-energy defects.

This paper presents the development of tapered optical fiber sensor to detect a specific Leptospira bacteria DNA. The bacteria causes Leptospirosis, a deadly disease but with common early flu-like symptoms. Optical single mode fiber (SMF) of 125 μm diameter is tapered to produce 12 μm waist diameter and 15 cm length. The novel DNA-based optical fiber sensor is functionalized by incubating the tapered region with sodium hydroxide (NaOH), (3-Aminopropyl) triethoxysilane and glutaraldehyde. Probe DNA is immobilized onto the tapered region and subsequently hybridized by its complementary DNA (cDNA). The transmission spectra of the DNA-based optical fiber sensor are measured in the 1500 to 1600 nm wavelength range. It is discovered that the shift of the wavelength in the SMF sensor is linearly proportional with the increase in the cDNA concentrations from 0.1 to 1.0 nM. The sensitivity of the sensor toward DNA is measured to be 1.2862 nm/nM and able to detect as low as 0.1 fM. The sensor indicates high specificity when only minimal shift is detected for non-cDNA testing. The developed sensor is able to distinguish between actual DNA of Leptospira serovars (Canicola and Copenhageni) against Clostridium difficile (control sample) at very low (femtomolar) target concentrations.

Introduction: Home visits are complex processes for clients and occupational therapists. Despite the benefits of home
visits, the numbers of home visits being conducted are decreasing in international settings due to service constraints
or client reluctance. Published international studies may not be applicable to Malaysia due to cultural and geodemographic
differences relating to the home context. This study aimed to explore the experience of occupational
therapists in Malaysia in conducting home visits. Materials and Methods: A focus group discussion was conducted
with seven occupational therapists in one teaching hospital in Kuala Lumpur. The group session was audio-recorded,
transcribed, summarised and analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Themes developed were: i) client factors
inhibiting effective service provision, ii) uninformed policies and guidelines, and iii) professional identity and
growth. Conclusions: Our study has revealed major challenges for Malaysian occupational therapists with regards
to conducting home visits. Future studies should now evaluate factors underlying reluctance to participate in home
visits and effective strategies to overcome these difficulties.
