METHODS: An online cross-sectional survey design was applied, and a convenience sampling technique was used to recruit 1039 adult people from Pakistan. Data were collected from September 08 to October 12, 2021. The questionnaire consisted of a total of 32 questions in four parts assessing socio-demographics, as well as knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding CCHF. All statistical analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), and logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the factors associated with good knowledge, positive attitudes, and good practices.
RESULTS: Alarmingly, 51.5% of participants heard about CCHF infection before administering the survey. Among these, 20.2%, 33.3%, and 48.2% of the study participants had demonstrated good knowledge, positive attitudes, and good practices, respectively. Binary logistic regression analysis revealed that education and income status had a significant impact on knowledge and attitudes (p<0.05). Similarly, the mean attitude scores differed significantly by age, education, and income status (p<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS: The findings reflected inadequate levels of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding CCHF among general people in Pakistan which may regard as lower than expected. As CCHF is a highly contagious disease, it's urgent to initiate a comprehensive approach to handle the situation before it spreads further in Pakistan.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed involving 331 subjects between 45-90 years recruited at a health screening programme. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were recorded. Biochemical analyses on fasting blood samples and dual energy X-ray absorptiometry scan to determine bone mineral density (BMD) were performed.
RESULTS: Increased waist circumference (WC) was protective for abnormal BMD status (osteopenia and OP). Males with increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) were more likely to be osteoporotic. WC, fasting blood glucose (FBG) and triglyceride (TG) were positively associated with BMD at all sites but was gender specific. In contrast, WC was negatively associated with trabecular bone score (TBS) for females but this association became attenuated when adjusted for fat percentage. HDL and MetS were negatively and positively associated with BMD, respectively in males.
CONCLUSION: The cardiovascular risk factors of raised WC, FBG, TG and low HDL were significantly associated with increased BMD with skeletal site and gender specific differences after adjusting for confounders. However, a higher WC was associated with a weaker skeletal microstructure reflected by lower TBS in females driven by fat percentage. A higher BMD was demonstrated among MetS individuals. These findings suggest that adiposity may have a protective effect on BMD.
METHODS: Studies published up to June 10, 2022, were searched in PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, VIP, Wanfang, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases and screened for eligibility. Then, the combined odds ratio (OR) of the included studies was estimated based on five genetic models, i.e., homozygous (Met/Met vs. Thr/Thr), heterozygous (Thr/Met vs. Thr/Thr), dominant (Thr/Met + Met/Met vs. Thr/Thr), recessive (Met/Met vs. Thr/Thr + Thr/Met) and allele (Met vs. Thr). The study protocol was preregistered at PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42021235704).
RESULTS: Overall, our meta-analysis of 14 eligible studies involving 12,905 subjects showed that the p.Thr241Met polymorphism was significantly associated with increased glioma risk in both homozygous and recessive models (homozygous, OR = 1.381, 95% CI = 1.081-1.764, P = 0.010; recessive, OR = 1.305, 95% CI = 1.140-1.493, P<0.001). Subgroup analyses by ethnicity also revealed a statistically significant association under the two aforementioned genetic models, but only in the Asian population and not in Caucasians (P>0.05).
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated that the XRCC3 p.Thr241Met polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of glioma only in the homozygous and recessive models.

RESULTS: An overall of 1839 diabetes patients participated in the study. The results have shown that direct and indirect costs are positively associated with the participants' socio-demographic characteristics, except for household income and educational status. The annual total cost of diabetes care was USD 740.1, amongst which the share of the direct cost was USD 646.7, and the indirect cost was USD 93.65. Most direct costs comprised medicine (USD 274.5) and hospitalization (USD 319.7). In contrast, the productivity loss of the patients had the highest contribution to the indirect cost (USD 81.36).
CONCLUSION: This study showed that direct costs significantly contributed to diabetes's overall cost in Pakistan and overall diabetes management estimated to be 1.67% (USD 24.42 billion) of the country's total gross domestic product. The expense of medications and hospitalization mostly drove the direct cost. Additionally, patients' loss of productivity contributed significantly to the indirect cost. It is high time for healthcare policymakers to address this huge healthcare burden. It is time to develop a thorough diabetes management plan to be implemented nationwide.
